We are delighted to inform our people that the drive from Abeokuta to Papalanto is now free of bad portions. The contractor handling the Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos Road project has almost completed the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the section between Abeokuta and Papalanto, making the journey along this axis smooth and stress-free. Work is also progressing steadily between Papalanto, Ifo, and Sango, where construction activities are ongoing to deliver a durable and motorable road for the benefit of all. This project, though a federal road, was formally handed over to us after several years of failed interventions, and we took it upon ourselves to ensure it is fixed once and for all. Our administration remains resolute in its commitment to providing quality infrastructure that enhances economic growth, facilitates ease of movement, and improves the daily lives of our people. It is important to note that the railway corridor falls under the responsibility of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), not the Local Government. However, in the interest of public health, safety, and environmental cleanliness, we are taking proactive steps to support the clean-up. Dear Engr. David N. Umahi - fnse, fnate, The deplorable state of the Camp/Osiele Road, a critical section of the Abeokuta–Odeda–Ibadan federal highway, demands urgent attention. This road connects major institutions, businesses, and communities, yet a journey that should take 15–20 minutes can now take about an hour due to potholes and failed sections. In the 2024 FG Budget, N55m was allocated for the “Emergency Repair of Eleweran–Osiele Road.” However, as of August 2026, there is no visible evidence of repair work. We urge Federal Ministry of Works to clarify the status of the allocation and urgently intervene to restore this critical road. Citizens deserve infrastructure that works.

Over a month after our last update, we continue to record steady and measurable progress on the reconstruction of the Lagos–Abeokuta Road. Although it is a Federal road that suffered decades of neglect long before the commencement of this administration, we took a deliberate decision to intervene in the interest of our people. In reconstructing the road, rigid concrete pavement is being deployed specifically at low points and areas with high water tables, where durability is critical, while other sections are executed using appropriate asphalt solutions. We have substantially completed the reconstruction of Tam Balogun Road in Ijebu-Ode, with all major asphalt works now finished under our administration’s ongoing drive to strengthen road infrastructure across Ogun State. The project is currently at about 98% completion, with only lane markings left to be carried out. With both the binder and final wearing courses in place, the road is fully motorable and already improving movement, safety, and travel time for residents and road users. We are currently executing the reconstruction of the Iperu–Ilishan corridor. The road spans 5.3 kilometres and is being dualized to meet the needs of the communities along the route. This upgrade will also provide direct access from the Gateway International Airport to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway. As part of the project scope, we are constructing more than 5.0 kilometres of drainage and outfall systems designed to permanently address the flooding challenges that previously affected this environment. This is the same strategic road that passes through the Gateway International Airport, making its expansion even more critical for accessibility and future traffic flow. Work is progressing in phases. Earthworks and major drainage installations are ongoing, while laterite placement continues across various sections. Several portions ahead of the current active zone have already reached stone-base level and are now ready for asphalting. The pothole-ridden stretch has reportedly led to several accidents, leaving residents frustrated. I was at Aba to inspect a couple of roads that are undergoing rehabilitation. I am happy with the progress of work, particularly at Cemetry Road. The contractor has also taken the initiative to desilt the drainage system, which demonstrates their commitment to ensuring a long-lasting and sustainable road infrastructure. It is worth noting that the rehabilitation efforts extend beyond Cemetry Road, with a total of nine roads currently undergoing partial and comprehensive rehabilitation. All the roads are being handled by reputable companies, including CCECC, Craneburg, and MCC. Regardless of the weather conditions, we remain dedicated to the task of rebuilding Aba for the benefit of our people.
