Florida man has been arrested and spent a night in jail because the "S" in "Sunshine State" on his rental car's Florida license plate was obstructed by a frame. A FOIA request revealed that, in just one town, 3rd parties (credit card companies, cell phone companies, alphabet agencies, retailers, foreign governments, etc...) accessed camera data more than 500,000 times in a 9 week period. "Flock Safety could not guarantee that it's not sharing information with federal agencies." No shit. Several municipalities in CT are "turning off" their Flock cameras in response to what one FOIA request revealed. The problem - the towns don't control/own the cameras nor the data they collect so they can't turn them off. It's easily accessed by just about anyone and certainly every state level agency/threat and that's only accounting for present day, known threats. There's a lot of takeaways from this video a former Flock contractor made (I couldn't find his social handle so if y'all know it please tag him) about the system but the one I think may help us get these removed from our communities starts around the ~90 second mark. He's 100% correct that almost all of these Flock "cameras" are illegally & dangerously installed. Most (maybe all...) states have very strict requirements about anything installed on the side of the road for driver safety and the way these poles are installed will kill someone. It may have already happened but if it hasn't then it's just a matter of time. Does your local town/county want to be responsible for that in a wrongful death lawsuit? Probably not. There's a lot of takeaways from this video a former Flock contractor made (I couldn't find his social handle so if y'all know it please tag him) about the system but the one I think may help us get these removed from our communities starts around the ~90 second mark. He's 100% correct that almost all of these Flock "cameras" are illegally & dangerously installed. Most (maybe all...) states have very strict requirements about anything installed on the side of the road for driver safety and the way these poles are installed will kill someone. It may have already happened but if it hasn't then it's just a matter of time. Does your local town/county want to be responsible for that in a wrongful death lawsuit? Probably not.
