A clean-energy car shouldn’t leave a polluting battery problem behind. Tesla’s goal is for no battery to ever end up in landfill. Across its U.S. operations, more than 90% of key materials like nickel and cobalt are already being recovered through recycling. Meaning less battery waste, less risk of pollution and less need to mine and process fresh materials to replace what was thrown away. In 2025, Tesla processed around 3,000 metric tons this way, enough material for roughly 9,000 Model Ys. The battery gets another life. The planet gets one less thing dumped into it. A Supercharger cable can be replaced. Getting out of danger matters more. Tesla’s new Emergency Drive Away lets you shift into Drive while still plugged in if you need to leave immediately. Hold the brake, tap Activate and the car can pull away without you stepping outside to unplug first. Yes, it will damage the charge port and Supercharger cable. Which makes sense, because a car assistant gets much more useful when it can handle real-world chaos in real languages. Routes. Questions. Local navigation. Random curiosity from the passenger seat.
