It does so consistently, systematically, and insanely, waging war specifically against people, against life, in a way intended to cause more pain. The world sees this. The world must not stand aside. Partners have Patriot systems in sufficient numbers, and the ability to produce defense systems is there. What is needed are political decisions and real results in protecting lives. Today, we can already say there is a good result for our air defense – Ukraine now has more Patriots. I thank Chancellor Merz, I thank Germany, and everyone who helps – our agreements have been fulfilled. More Patriots are now in Ukraine and being put into operation. Of course, more systems are needed to protect key infrastructure sites and our cities across the entire territory of Ukraine, and we will continue working to obtain them – not only at the political level with states and leaders but also directly with manufacturers of all necessary air defense systems and missiles for them.

Decisions are needed now that will provide greater protection for our people, more capabilities for our defense, and even stronger security cooperation between Ukraine, Europe, and the United States. The NATO Summit Defense Industry Forum, nearly twenty planned bilateral meetings with leaders, new Drone Deals, and other agreements with partners. We will continue to work on bolstering Ukraine’s air defense. New systems, missiles for them, and the issue of production licenses – all of this is our priority. We are grateful to everyone who is helping Ukraine with real steps.

Over this past week, Russia used around 2,200 attack drones against Ukraine, more than 1,730 guided aerial bombs, and 106 missiles of various types, nearly half of them ballistic. Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, as well as our border and frontline communities, are under fire almost every day. There was a massive strike on Kyiv that claimed the lives of 31 people and injured another 102, including four children. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Every day, we must protect lives from these attacks. We already have the capabilities to effectively shoot down more than 90% of drones, but, unfortunately, not all ballistic missiles are intercepted. And it is ballistic missiles that Moscow is now leaning on to continue its war. And every day, we are working to strengthen air defense for Ukraine: through PURL and through our bilateral contacts with countries that have not joined PURL but do have the missiles we so urgently need. We are also strengthening our air defense through joint work with Europeans on anti-ballistic capabilities. We need answers from our partners to our requests for air defense. Every package of interceptor missiles provides real protection for lives. I thank all leaders who are finding ways to help in this particular area.

In just a few days between December 29th and now, Russia has used about 300 missiles and over 200 “Shahed” drones against Ukraine. Prior to Ukraine, no country in the world had ever successfully repulsed such combined attacks with the use of drones and missiles, including air-launched ballistic missiles. Only today, 10 Kinzhals were shot down. I am grateful to every warrior in our Air Forces, all fighters in mobile air defense groups, every anti-aircraft gunner, and everyone throughout the world who is assisting Ukraine by providing weapons to defend our skies. Each additional air defense system and missile saves more lives. It is here, in Ukraine, and with our air defense, that we must demonstrate that democracies are capable of protecting lives from all types of terror. If we fail to achieve this task in Ukraine now, Russian terror will further spread throughout Europe and beyond. The Russian leadership's sense of impunity, forged over decades of unrestricted authority, has already resulted in a lot of suffering and loss of life. Russia must confront the responsibility for taking lives as well as the power of those who protect them.
