Zero programming knowledge. No game engine. I'm building a Diablo-style RPG using only AI. The hardest part was building the town. I had to tell the AI exact coordinates to place every single object — painfully slow and frustrating. My solution: I built my own map editor inside the... show more

You told the ai the exact coordinates of everything..? just use a JSON file as a middleman and have the ai write the JSON. Also dont listen to the haters. Just be sure to crank it to 11 .

Thank you, I really appreciate that. And yeah, that’s basically what I ended up doing after fighting with manual coordinates for way too long. The support means a lot — I’m definitely going to keep pushing it as far as I can.

Looks epic, please keep us posted. Would love to see a Diablo style game!

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I’ll keep sharing updates, and I’d love to make that Diablo-style feel come through.

Out now on Steam.

@octagon_game_st Holy shit this post took off! Did someone pick it up? Congrats!

@octagon_game_st I'm not sure if talking about the development process and background is what makes it go viral. Honestly, I don't know! But thank you so much!

Love to see where you can take this. Very impressive. I am very bullish on AI for game development.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I truly believe AI has democratized game development — opening doors for people like me who never had a programming background. At the same time, I have the deepest respect for the developers who built incredible games from scratch, long before any of these tools existed. They laid the foundation that all of us are building on.

Totally agree. It unlocks so much human creativity enabling everybody who for one reason or another could not get into gamedev before

Did Claude create the art assets, animation, and UI?

yo what the heck runescape vibes , new money new games new energies

Thank you, I really appreciate that. The way I’m making it might be new, but the game itself is inspired by the 1990s — that feeling when everyone was excited to jump into online RPGs for the first time.

the smell is so right, you are doing a decent work here with this

Thank you, I really appreciate it. Honestly, I’ve been living on almost no sleep for the past two months to make this, and my job probably hates me at this point haha.

this is THE JOB !

😂

It looks incredible and feels like something that would have fit right in alongside other RTS games of the 90s/2000s!

Thank you! That’s exactly the feeling I’m aiming for.

🖤

😻

Will spells be learned by books like in diablo 1 more more through skilltree like in d2? greets

Thanks for the comment! It's closer to Diablo 2. The skill tree and the Sorcerer will be available in the next big update, coming soon.

You are not building anything, git good noob

Thank you for the comment. I understand that point of view, and I’m taking all kinds of feedback seriously. I’m still learning and want to improve one step at a time.

That is the main problem, you are not learning anything..

That's interesting but not knowing how to code might become a problem in the future, possibly. Anyway where do you get those 3d models? They look good

Thank you, I appreciate that. I know coding is something I still need to improve, and I’m working on it step by step. 😊

this is impressive! Which pipeline are you using to build this game?

Honestly, just Claude Code. Whenever it can't do something out of the box, I build my own editor for it. For special stuff like concept art, I use ChatGPT too. Yeah, that's about it!👍

Looks amazing.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. 😊

Hey, it's looking good. I'm making a game with Codex. I'm sure, like me, you've had the idea in your head for years, but couldn't make it happen till AI coding became good.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. Yes, that’s exactly how it feels for me too. This has been in my head for a long time, and AI coding finally helped me start turning it into something real. 😊

What engine?

I’m not using a game engine. That’s actually why I ended up building my own editor inside the game.

Impressive. What programming language, then?

This is 92% the actual reaction I had reading that lol. That's awesome =)

Thank you so much, that honestly makes me really happy. I’m glad it gave you that kind of reaction. 😊

Awesome work! Keep going !! I have one question, how you did the animations? :)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I’m still learning a lot as I go, so the animations are something I’m figuring out step by step. 😊

Did you have any game dev industry knowledge or experience before this?

None at all. Zero programming knowledge, zero game dev experience. I started from absolute scratch — just AI, a vision, and pure determination. Still learning every day!

That's awesome man, living the dream! Look forward to seeing how the game turns out 🙌

Thank you so much, that really means a lot! I'll keep pushing forward and make this game something worth playing. Stay tuned! 🙏

@TheHashton That's the energy we love to see! 🎮 Can't wait to check out what you're building. The gaming community's got your back! 🔥

@TheHashton Thank you so much! That means a lot coming from a fellow dungeon builder! 🏰 I'll keep pushing forward — the support from this community is incredible. 🙏🔥

@TheHashton That's what it's all about! 🎮 Your dedication to building amazing dungeons is inspiring. The community thrives when creators like you push boundaries. Let's keep building something legendary together! 🐉

@TheHashton Let's go! 🔥🐉

LFG⚡🔥 Amazing project! 💎🚀 Let’s collab & grow together 🤝🔥

why not just use godot or something and ask AI how to do stuff and if you need code ask it for code? did you look into different game makers? why didn't you like any?

CODEX MORTIS was actually one of the reasons I started. Seeing someone build in a similar environment made me feel like I could do it too, so that gave me the push to begin. I knew about other engines too, but after trying JavaScript, it felt more flexible for the way I wanted to work, and I don’t regret that choice right now. Maybe I’ll use an engine next time, but at this point I’m too deep into this path to turn back. Thanks for the comment.

And why are you building a game that's basically a game builder, rather than your own game maker? Would probably not hurt to have more options, if you gave it away as a download. Maybe an open source project that allows others to easily change code with AI.

That could actually be interesting someday. But first I need to finish the game. If the game isn’t good, nobody will trust the editor either. For now, I’m focusing on making the game first.

That's really impressive.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I’m very glad it made that kind of impression. 😊

As a PROUD AI User myself, I SALUTE YOU!

Thank you so much. From one proud AI user to another, I truly appreciate the support. 😊

Whoa, no engine? Wild 🤯💪✨

Genius! What tools are you using?

Thank you so much. I’m using Claude Code quite a bit for this, and it has been a huge help during development. 😊

This is incredible. I've got claude code too. How did you do the graphics? What's the engine? This is blowing my mind.

Thank you! That really means a lot 😊 I create the graphics by combining AI tools with other resources and methods, and the engine is made with JavaScript. Thanks for your comment!

Great! is three.js?

@yagizyuksl Thank you! It's actually built with PIXI.js v8. Appreciate you checking it out! 🙏

What are you using for music/sound? I've found @ElevenLabs to be great for my sound effects! Also, the theme music was made using the new @GeminiApp music tool.

Awesome!!

Thank you! Really appreciate you checking it out!

nice work how much did you spend using claude for this ?

Thank you, I really appreciate it. Yes, I’ve been using Claude Code a lot for this, and it’s been really helpful.

Incredible!

Thanks! You haven't seen anything yet. 😉

I KNOW THAT'S WHY IT'S SO AWESOME!

How did you make the animations?

Thanks for the comment. Some of the animations were made by me, and some were sourced with AI helping me find and assemble the right pieces. So it’s not 100% hand-made from scratch — it’s a mix of my own work and AI-assisted sourcing.

The day you can tell AI. Generate me a 3d engine from scratch with user friendly interface that is perfectly tailored for X gameplay from X game. That will free artists from the pain that is working with all purpose engine like unity and unreal. Being one man army is depressing.

Thank you, I really feel that. Building everything as a one-person team can be draining, so I also hope AI eventually makes it easier to create game-specific tools instead of forcing everyone into the same general-purpose engines. 😊

looks freaking amazing, is there a way to apply for a key so i can make a video about it / review on steam?

curious about the graphics items. did you use some asset packs? some of it looks familliar

Thank you, I really appreciate it. Yes, I used some asset packs for certain parts, then modified and combined them to better match the look I was going for. 😊

man i need to get some better assets and figure out how to do isometric lol. Im also making a JS based dungeon crawler, but im coding it myself. I use AI to help with refactors and optimization , but i doen really trust it to fully write the code, also im doing this to learn ECS so having an AI write it would be unhelpful in that regards lol.
