Low-cost LiDAR mapping is impressive from a technical standpoint, but we should also talk about the privacy implications. Unlike regular street view cameras (which only capture what is publicly visible), LiDAR actively scans and creates detailed 3D models that can easily penetrate gardens, backyards, or even partially indoors through windows. This goes far beyond traditional "Freedom of Panorama" protections in many countries.Crowdsourced or vehicle-mounted LiDAR raises serious privacy questions that visual street view doesn't. Worth considering before scaling this approach widely.
