There aren't many (any!) football clubs in England like Dorking Wanderers FC. Founded by Marc White and a group of friends in 1999, the club started 17 tiers below the Premier League. Since then, it has climbed as high as the National League. And somehow, Marc is still the owner, chairman AND manager. But this is no gimmick... Underneath this unconventional structure lies a high performing sports entity that has many lessons to share. Football has a habit of making sensible business decisions disappear the moment winning becomes the priority. As Marc puts it, owners can tell themselves they're going to be disciplined about spending, but all that matters is winning on Saturday. Dorking have made mistakes along the way. They've overspent on players, spent millions upgrading infrastructure and eventually suffered relegation after years of climbing the pyramid. But Marc's biggest principle is simple: relegation is acceptable. Going out of business isn't. Don't build up huge amounts of debt. Make sensible decisions at each turning point. Accept that football is unpredictable, but never allow one bad season to destroy the business. Second major armed attack on White House security in less than a month. This is getting ridiculous. 21-year-old Nasire Best walked straight up to a Secret Service checkpoint at 17th & Pennsylvania Avenue, pulled a gun out of his bag, and opened fire on officers. Secret Service dropped him. A bystander was wounded. President Trump was inside and safe. This comes right after the April 25 shootout at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. These kinds of attempts were never like this during the Biden administration. No matter what this guy’s politics were, it goes to show the mental health crisis is completely out of control on the Democrat side. Conservatives don’t resort to this kind of violence to prove a point. Stop the madness.

With Callum Wilson set to depart #NUFC it’s probably time to forget the last year, and focus on the brilliant service he has provided for the club. Joined at a ‘dark time’ under an even worse manager, but that didn’t stop him from scoring a very good amount of goals for his circumstance, and being a standout player alongside the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin. Even after the takeover Wilson only excelled, going on to score 18 goals and claiming 5 assists in the season the Magpies reached the Champions League. Definitely the correct time for Callum Wilson to go his separate ways with Newcastle, but his goals and homage to the famous number 9 shirt will not be forgotten. 🫡

The police told him that somebody — who we now know to be his neighbour — had complained about an alleged racially aggravated Section 5 public order offence. He was then invited to attend an interview under caution at Darlington Police Station. The case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), and when Stephen was charged under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003, he contacted the Free Speech Union. In April this year, Stephen was found guilty of one of the two charges after sharing a joke about the Prophet Muhammad marrying a nine-year-old. He had reposted an image on Facebook showing a rasher of bacon and a man in a turban, accompanied by the text: “Fun facts about bacon! People who eat bacon have a lower chance of marrying a 9 year old!” It is unsurprising that the post for which he was convicted of sending a “grossly offensive” message was the one that referred to Islam. We should bear in mind that this is happening in a country where Parliament voted to abolish the blasphemy laws in 2008. The case has cost Stephen £1,100 in fines, plus legal costs.
