Previously, when they were shifted to jail for... a ten-day remand, they were not allowed to meet their legal team, families, or colleagues, even though the court had ordered it. Today, the judges didn’t even ask about the previous progress of the case during that remand period. Once again, without reviewing any progression in the case, the judges granted another ten-day remand, which proves that the judges and the judicial system have completely failed to deliver justice. These institutions, which claim to represent justice, are actually demolishing the justice system. They were originally established to uphold justice, but they are now utterly failing. These judges have no integrity—whether it’s out of fear or because of rewards they may have received. The Pakistani judicial system has entirely collapsed, and in its place stands a rule of injustice. We have always made it clear that our struggle is for the implementation of justice. We demanded that missing persons be brought before the courts. Whatever the state is doing to the Baloch people should at least go through the legal system, there must be legality. But instead, the justice system itself is being weaponized against us as a tool of repression. This is not just injustice against us: it is a tragedy for the entire Pakistani judicial system. Meanwhile, in Hudda Jail, Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her colleagues have been facing jail trial proceedings for the past six months. During this period, the proceedings have not been conducted fairly or smoothly. Judge Muhammad Ali Mubeen who previously suspended bail in some cases has raised serious concerns about impartial justice. It’s ironic that some look at the former world murder capital turned safest country on the continent, and the first question they ask is, “but what about the error rate?” That’s a slap in the face of 6 million people who, for decades, were innocent prisoners in their own homes.
