This afternoon, San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to an incident at a McDonald’s restaurant in north San Bernardino. In the city known as the birthplace of McDonald’s, the response brought firefighters to one of the most recognizable names in the community. Upon arrival, crews found the restaurant had been evacuated and found light smoke above the indoor playground area. The fire was burning inside an exterior wall and between the ceiling and the roof as well. Battling high outdoor temperatures firefighters conducted an exterior fire attack from outside of the building, truck companies attacked the fire from the roof, while other firefighters conducted an interior attack from the inside of the building to suppress the fire. It took approximately one hour to fully locate and extinguish the fire. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for a heat-related issue, but no civilian injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal. Tesla Joins San Bernardino County Fire to Train for the Future in Renewable Energy Safety SAN BERNARDINO, CA – San Bernardino County Fire in partnership with Tesla hosted a west coast training event designed to prepare first responders for the evolving challenges presented by modern energy systems. Over the course of two days, fire and law enforcement agencies, public safety stakeholders, and towing professionals from across the region gathered at the San Bernardino Regional Emergency Training Center to engage in hands-on training with Tesla’s suite of energy and vehicle products. Participants explored Tesla’s ecosystem firsthand, including electric vehicles, Megapack, Powerwall, Solar systems, and Supercharging infrastructure. Tesla engineers and product teams were on site to demonstrate current and next-generation products while facilitating discussions on responder and public safety. “Tesla reached out and said they wanted to bring in their engineers, their teams, and actual Tesla products, not just what’s on the road today, but what’s coming tomorrow,” said Fire Chief Dan Munsey. “This training gave our firefighters a chance to engage directly with the technology, ask the tough safety questions, and talk through the best ways to keep both responders and the public safe as the renewable energy industry continues to grow.” The event marked the first time Tesla has held this type of training event on the west coast. The only previous event of its kind was hosted in New York City with FDNY. Tesla brought production models, prototypes, and a full suite of energy storage components to the training grounds. The goal was clear: help first responders safely navigate incidents involving electric vehicles and energy systems with confidence and precision. With the increasing adoption of clean energy and electric transportation, San Bernardino County Fire is taking a proactive stance in ensuring public and first responder safety. The Tesla training event exemplified a forward-thinking approach, placing San Bernardino County Fire at the forefront of modern hazard mitigation and emergency readiness. San Bernardino County Fire is committed to preparedness, innovation, and forward thinking in response to the new challenges and emerging technologies we will be facing in the future.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS SAVE CHILD FROM BURNING HOME Today at 11:15 a.m., the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District responded to a residential structure fire located on the 1300 block of N. Valencia Avenue in the City of San Bernardino. The initial engine arrived in six minutes and reported a single story residence, well involved with smoke and fire. Shortly after arrival, residents informed fire crews that their daughter, who has access and functional needs, was trapped inside the home. In response to the life-threatening update, firefighters shifted their strategy from fire suppression to search and rescue. A team was able to locate the child in a bedroom and safely passed her through a window to fellow firefighters outside. She was subsequently taken to awaiting firefighter/paramedics and transported to a local hospital, where she was reported to be in serious but stable condition. Additionally, a family dog was successfully rescued from the premises. Seven engines, one truck company, one medic squad, and three chief officers, totaling 30 personnel deployed to the scene. This incident underscores the effectiveness of rigorous training, teamwork, and the enhanced staffing levels implemented in the City of San Bernardino. Last year, staffing levels were increased to four personnel on all trucks, and an additional medic squad was added. These enhancements were crucial during this response, as the captain from the assigned truck was able to perform the rescue and hand off the child to the medic squad, who provided immediate emergency medical care. The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District would like to remind residents to keep bedroom doors closed, especially when someone is sleeping inside. The closed bedroom door helped prevent smoke and flames from causing major injuries, providing enough time for emergency crews to locate the child without any significant burns or airway injuries. San Bernardino County Fire and CAL FIRE Partner on Front Country Fuel Reduction Project SAN BERNARDINO, CA — The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, assisted by CAL FIRE, began Phase 1 of the North San Bernardino Front Country Fuel Reduction Project. This proactive wildfire mitigation effort is designed to reduce fire risk and improve protection for communities along the northern edge of the City of San Bernardino. The project will establish a 50-foot-wide fuel break extending approximately one mile from Highway 18 west to Devils Canyon. Crews will be removing vegetation and reducing available fuels that could contribute to wildfire growth and spread. Historically, several significant wildfires have originated in this area and threatened homes and neighborhoods throughout North San Bernardino. The construction of this fuel break will help slow the spread of future wildfires, improve firefighter access, and provide an additional layer of protection for residents and property. Work on the project is expected to take approximately one to two weeks to complete. Residents may see firefighting personnel, equipment, and vegetation removal operations occurring throughout the project area during this time. While this project represents an important investment in wildfire preparedness, San Bernardino County Fire reminds residents that the threat of wildfire exists year-round. There is no better time than now for homeowners to create and maintain defensible space around their homes by removing dead vegetation, clearing combustible materials, and following recommended fire-safe landscaping practices.
