Every crew needs a good leader… apparently ours has four legs. 🐐🔥 While working on the Rock Creek Fire, our firefighters got an unexpected escort from a very determined goat who led them toward the fire area and helped with some fuel mitigation along the way. We’re not saying he’s ready for a badge… but we’re also not saying he isn’t. 😂

There is smoke visible in the area, crews are on scene working on extinguishing the fire. Please do not stop on Austin Bluffs unless advised to by CSPD officers. Traffic in the area needs to continue moving.

Today, the Colorado Springs Fire Department deployed additional resources to assist with the #AspenAcresFire, including a Type 6 brush truck, Engine 4, Wildland 4, and a Battalion Chief. As we continue supporting our neighbors to the south, we want our community to know that additional staffing has been put in place here at home to ensure Colorado Springs remains fully protected. Wildfire season is a reminder that preparedness matters for fire departments and for our community. 🚨 CSFD DRONE LOCATES LIGHTNING STRIKES 🚨 This morning, July 5, CSFD crews responded to a smoke investigation near Mt. Rosa. Our Special Operations drone team launched a drone and quickly located two lightning-caused fires burning in rugged, forested terrain, both less than an acre. Our drone operator provided precise GPS coordinates to our partners with the USFS_Pike&San Isabel allowing their resources, including Boise Helitak, to respond quickly before the fires had a chance to grow. With the Aspen Acres Fire already burning south of our community, early detection matters. Today’s response is a great example of how drone technology, and the highly trained operators behind it, helps protect our community, our forests, and our firefighters. Technology doesn’t replace firefighters. It gives them the information they need to act faster, safer, and more effectively. 🎥: Credit- Boise Helitak

On February 19 at 5:03 p.m., Colorado Springs Police and Colorado Springs Firefighters responded to Prospect Lake after reports that a vehicle had gone into the water. What happened next was an extraordinary display of teamwork and courage. This video, captured by Drone as a First Responder, shows CSPD officers immediately entering the freezing lake. Seconds later CSFD firefighters joined them. Together, they pulled an unconscious adult male from the vehicle and continued searching the submerged car after reports that a child might also be inside. Dive teams and multiple units responded, and several ambulances were called to warm first responders exposed to the extreme cold. Two firefighters and two officers were transported with minor injuries and hypothermia. All first responders have been released from the hospital. The rescued individual remains in critical condition. This incident shows the strength of the partnership between CSFD and CSPD. Their coordination, trust, and willingness to risk everything for others are unmatched. Their instinct is always the same: protect life. #UPDATE: CSFD Fire Investigators responded on Monday to the Marksheffel Rd. Fire and have determined that the cause of this fire was accidental likely due to dragging chains from a vehicle. As of Monday, March 11th at 1:30 pm the fire is at 640 acres with 90% containment. One CSFD brush truck will remain at the fire scene to patrol for hotspots. Fire crews are confident that the containment line will hold. The CSFD would like to extend its gratitude to the regional agencies who quickly responded to assist with fighting this fire and thank them for their continued partnership. 🎥: CSFD Special Operations Unit Drone
