“Could’ve been disastrous.” An air traffic controller was stunned after realizing two American Airlines aircraft on the same frequency were using the exact same call sign: American 2482. One was on the arrival while the other was departing, creating the risk that a crew could respond to an instruction intended for the other aircraft. 🚨 Silk Way West Airlines flight 7L5722 (AZG5722), a Boeing 747-83QF freighter operating from Mexico City (NLU), declared PAN-PAN three times after reporting it was running low on fuel while requesting priority handling toward Houston. During the exchange, ATC advised the crew they did not have enough fuel to safely continue to Houston and immediately offered a diversion to Dallas/Fort Worth.
