Why were only three blacks accepted this year into New York City’s competitive Stuyvesant High School? Because that is the number of blacks who passed the admissions test—a detail not even alluded to until the fifth paragraph of the New York Times story on this alleged scandal. Why did only three blacks (out of 777 admittees) pass the admissions test? Because, on average, blacks’ academic skills are so low. Nationally, the percentage of black 12th graders with advanced math skills is essentially zero on a national sample. Why continue to point out this doleful reality, which most well-meaning Americans would rather ignore? Because unless we understand that the low representation of blacks in meritocratic institutions, whether Stuyvesant High School or NASA, is due to the academic skills gap and not to systemic racism, we will continue to sabotage civilizational progress. (The next question: Why the persistent academic skills gap? This is the thorniest question of all.)

What can government do to restore sanity to drugged-out, filth-encrusted, dangerous city streets? Defund the advocates and refund jails and insane asylums. There is money to do so if we stop supporting activist social programs. Create ample incarceration and institutional capacity and thereby strip every excuse, such as prison overcrowding, from deincarcerating prosecutors and judges. Two strikes and you’re out. Ditch Housing First, replace with Treatment First and judicial oversight.

School discipline plummeted under the Obama administration, because school districts risked a DOJ lawsuit if they suspended black students at a higher rate than white students. At the same time, punishment for black males in the juvenile justice system dropped by 2/3. Results? Escalating juvenile crime and violent "teen takeovers."

Why did progress in reducing black-white divides come to a screeching halt in the 1960s? The embrace of an oppositional culture, that deemed such activities as studying in school and obeying the law as “acting white.” Behavior, not racism, explains lingering racial inequalities; a change of behavior is the prerequisite to reducing them.

Parents of white male students are waking up to the fact that their children are the last to be chosen for medical school, law school, and other graduate programs. MCAT scores that would be disqualifying for a white or Asian medical school applicant are close to an automatic admit if submitted by a black student. Of course blacks should seek postgraduate training—but on the same basis as everyone else. It does them no favors to be catapulted into academic environments for which they are not prepared.

The Camp of the Saints played out in real time yesterday as nearly 50,000 Moroccans invaded the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on the North African coast. The immediate stimulus was likely Spain’s recent amnesties, both from the Spanish Supreme Court in June and from Pedro Sanchez’s government in April. Those amnesties are but an epiphenomenon of a deeper cause, however: Western elites’ belief that the West is the source of the world’s suffering. The resulting demographic replacement will continue until we acknowledge and act on the truth: our civilization is the most successful in human history and must be defended. From my address at the Sun Valley Policy Forum earlier this month.

Teen takeovers are the predictable result of an elite culture that excuses public disorder and crime as a reaction to white supremacy. That excuse has weakened the criminal justice system, especially the juvenile justice system, and has led to the unwillingness to impose consequences on anti-social behavior.

WATCH: Here’s a clip from my recent talk at UC Berkeley Law, hosted by Berkeley Law Federalist Society with @stevenfhayward as moderator. Student heckling became boisterous, along with fervent declarations of how oppressive it is to be a black law student at Berkeley.

The left has decided that if an employer administers a test and black applicants fail at higher rates than white applicants, that amounts to discrimination and the test must be thrown out. The concept of disparate impact is the greatest weapon against merit and excellence.

Women overwhelmingly value equity and emotional safety over the pursuit of truth and academic freedom. Men are the opposite. It's going to take more parents standing up for their sons and fewer CEOs being browbeaten by their wives to stop the feminization of universities and society at large.

“Sexist” gatekeepers are not keeping females out of tech fields or preventing them from founding companies. The VC world is desperate to back female entrepreneurs—if it could only find them. The leaders of AI and other tech ventures remain overwhelmingly male not because of “the patriarchy” but because males on average are driven to take risks, to compete, and to expand the boundaries of knowledge through obsessive exploration and work—far more than the average female.

"American carnage" was apt in 2017 and it remains apt today. Yes, crime is down from its post-George Floyd race riot high, but American violence is beyond anything the rest of the advanced industrial world could imagine, especially for blacks, who are murdered by the dozens every day.

Lowering standards for black and female students results in those students entering into an academic environment they are not qualified for. Then, when they fall behind, they are told it is because of racism or the patriarchy. It is cruel to admit these unqualified students so that administrators get more diverse photos on their college website.

Why teen takeovers? For years, we’ve been told that the reason that blacks are overrepresented in the juvenile justice system and in school discipline cases is racism. The Obama and Biden Justice Departments sued school districts for civil rights violations if they disciplined black students at higher rates than white students. The reality: These allegedly docile, well-behaved youth commit homicide at 10 times the rate of whites. The same lack of socialization that produces astronomical rates of black gun violence results in insubordinate behavior in school. The schools are not racist; the students are out of control. But the lack of consequences breeds more lawless behavior and the excuse-making continues.

The female crack-up continues. After having flocked to pro-Hamas protests in favor of murderers and misogynists, females are now obstructing federal officers in Minneapolis and elsewhere, oblivious to the rule of law. The more feminized the culture, the less it will be guided by reason.

The civil commitment of seriously mentally ill, drug-addicted vagrants can be justified in terms of helping the vagrants themselves—and rightly so. But here’s whose interests should be paramount—law-abiding, hard-working citizens, who have a right to clean, safe public spaces. In no conceivable universe should children have to see schizophrenics and psychotics masturbating in public. But that result is guaranteed by government’s abdication of its core duties.

Three-year old Honesty Cheadle was killed at a 4th of July barbeque in a drive-by shooting. We are supposed to say the name of George Floyd. We are supposed to say the name of Michael Brown. Have we said her name? Where are the Black Lives Matter activists?
