A newly released video shows two men attacking a 77-year-old man who was walking down the street in downtown Seattle last month. The incident was captured by the city's Real Time Crime Center surveillance cameras, which monitor public areas that have been identified as crime hot spots. In the video, the victim is seen walking slowly southbound on Third Avenue, approaching a pharmacy at the corner of Pike Street. Without any prior interaction, two men shove the man to the ground and punch him, the video shows. They are then seen walking away from the man, who is left hunched over on the ground as bystanders walk past him. None of the witnesses to the attack approached or offered assistance to the man as he remained on the ground. Full story here: #komo #komo4 #komonews #komo4news #seattle #washington

Speaking at Thursday’s Puget Sound Regional Council General Assembly meeting, Smith compared Washington’s tax structure to other high-tax states, including California, New York, and New Jersey. He said policymakers should focus on predictability and the combined impact of taxes on individuals and businesses when evaluating future policy decisions. Smith also called for a broader public discussion about how Washington can remain competitive while maintaining its current tax structure. #komo #komonews #komo4 #komo4news #seattle #seattlenews #washingtonnews

Hawaii conservation officers are investigating after a man from Seattle allegedly threw a rock at a Hawaiian monk seal off Maui. The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said its Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement, known as DOCARE, responded Monday to reports of monk seal harassment near Lahaina after social media posts appeared to show a man throwing a rock toward a seal in the water. The raw video, provided to KOMO News by the original witness, shows the man appear to pick up a large rock off the beach and hurl it at the seal, landing near or on the animal's head and causing it to rear out of the water. According to the department, an officer contacted a 37-year-old man from Seattle who matched the description provided by a witness. Authorities said the man was detained, identified, and informed of his legal rights before requesting an attorney and declining to make a statement. The state said the investigation will be referred to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Law Enforcement because Hawaiian monk seals are protected under the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act. The man has not been charged, and officials did not release his identity. 📹 - Kaylee Ku'ukamaleimakamae Schnitzer Full story here: #komo #komo4 #komonews #komo4news #seattle #washington #hawaii #monkseal #seal #hawaiitravel #hawaiitourism

City crews started removing resident-installed barriers on several side streets off Aurora Avenue in Seattle on Friday morning, even after residents said they had successfully blocked gun violence and prostitution from spilling into their neighborhoods. Mayor Katie Wilson directed Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) crews to remove the homemade barriers and install temporary traffic calming measures. This began on N 97th and 102nd Streets on Friday, where SDOT crews installed staggered, concrete barriers. The temporary barriers, or chicanes, will help reduce high-speed traffic from cutting through neighborhoods, while reinstating access for emergency first responders and other services, city officials said. But many residents are not convinced the new barriers will be successful. Full story here: #komo #komo4 #komonews #seattle
