𝗞𝗼𝗹𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀, 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 & 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻. West Bengal has engaged RITES to prepare a blueprint for reviving Kolkata's tram network, with the immediate focus on restoring existing traditional routes. Once the core network is operational, the state plans to extend tram services to Salt Lake and New Town. Authorities are also assessing a Kalighat–Dakshineswar corridor along the Hooghly and Adi Ganga. The proposal also includes exploring PPP-based operations, advertising-led revenue models and a potential UNESCO World Heritage tag for Kolkata's historic tram system. The project remains at the planning stage, but if implemented, it would represent the most significant overhaul of the city's iconic tram network in decades.
