𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆: 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮'𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗯! Lux Industries will expand its integrated manufacturing facility at Dankuni through a ₹600 crore project, including around ₹450 crore in fresh capital expenditure. The foundation stone will be laid later today at the Hooghly facility in the presence of senior officials from the Government of West Bengal. The expansion will add nearly 12 lakh sq ft of manufacturing and allied infrastructure, increasing annual manufacturing capacity from around 12 crore pieces by an additional 18–20 crore pieces. The total built-up area will reach about 20 lakh sq ft, making it one of Asia's largest garment manufacturing facilities. The project is expected to create around 3,000 direct and 6,000 indirect jobs in West Bengal.

West Bengal has engaged RITES to prepare a blueprint for reviving Kolkata's tram network, with the immediate focus on restoring existing traditional routes. Once the core network is operational, the state plans to extend tram services to Salt Lake and New Town. Authorities are also assessing a Kalighat–Dakshineswar corridor along the Hooghly and Adi Ganga. The proposal also includes exploring PPP-based operations, advertising-led revenue models and a potential UNESCO World Heritage tag for Kolkata's historic tram system. The project remains at the planning stage, but if implemented, it would represent the most significant overhaul of the city's iconic tram network in decades.

The expansion comes as Howrah Division earned a record ₹1,191 crore in revenue and served over 10 crore passengers during Q1 FY27, reflecting the growing demand on Bengal's rail network. Additional Infrastructure improvement like lifts, escalators, foot overbridges are being constructed while extending existing platform lengths. Officials believe the additional capacity will allow more trains to be introduced, including an expected Vande Bharat Sleeper Express in July, as the division continues to expand its network.

Shyam Steel Group will invest ₹15,000 crore across multiple projects in Bengal, led by a 2 MTPA integrated steel plant at Mejia, Bankura. The steel plant alone will see an investment of ₹10,000 crore, raise the group's production capacity to 3.5 MTPA, and generate around 15,000 direct and indirect jobs. Once commissioned, it is expected to be one of the biggest steel plants in East India. The group will invest another ₹5,000 crore in defence manufacturing, industrial townships, fabrication, paints, industrial coatings, infrastructure, construction chemicals, engineering and other emerging sectors, creating 5,000 additional jobs. Together, the projects are expected to generate 20,000 employment opportunities. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will visit Bankura later today to lay the foundation stone for the projects.

Kolkata has emerged as the safest city in India for the fourth year in a row, recording the lowest number of cognisable offences per lakh people, as per the latest National Crime Records Bureau report. Crimes against women, too, declined in the city. The city's rate of crime against women — 25.7 per lakh population — was the third lowest in the country, after Chennai (17.3) and Coimbatore (22.7).

EM Bypass stretch will look remarkable 10 years from now. Many high profile skyscraper projects are currently under construction along this stretch including The Trump Tower, Z Residences, PS Anassa. We need atleast 4-5 more stretches like this across Kolkata. Kolkata has the 3rd highest number of skyscrapers in the country after Mumbai and Hyderabad but we need to actively build more to cater to the increasing population demands.
