Many are wondering why Trump chose aid cuts for South Africa rather than sanctions or tariffs. The people urging him on and falsely claiming that white South Africans are being persecuted by their government are white business owners and pressure groups. I want my followers to understand that you SHOULDN’T... insult South Africa as a country based on a few loud voices on social media who express racist or xenophobic views. South Africa has provided numerous opportunities to the world, particularly to Africans. If South Africans were truly xenophobic, Africans would not be living there in such large numbers today. The majority of South Africans are welcoming to all foreigners who are legally in the country and do not commit crimes. These foreigners work with South Africans, live with them, and many are married to South Africans. There is nothing to worry about in South Africa if you are there legally and not committing crimes. South African citizens have the right to express concerns about illegal foreign nationals and those who commit crimes. In Zimbabwe, illegal foreigners are often placed in dilapidated jails, and refugees are housed in camps like Tongogara in Manicaland. Generalisations are dangerous, especially when they taint and insult a silent majority that is not xenophobic. Local communities in South Africa have protected foreign nationals from a small, violent minority on many occasions. The South African government is not xenophobic either. If it were, Zimbabwean women, who make up 70% of pregnant women giving birth at Musina Hospital in Limpopo, would not be allowed there. We should be grateful for the South African hospitality we have received for decades. It is important to recognise that while xenophobia and racism may exist in certain pockets of society, these attitudes do not reflect the majority of South Africans or the country as a whole. Respecting the rights of South African citizens to voice concerns about illegal immigration and crime is important, as these are valid issues. However, it is equally important to avoid generalising these concerns to portray the entire nation as xenophobic or unwelcoming. If South Africans were truly xenophobic, parties like PA and Action SA would be in power today. The four largest political parties in South Africa have never used xenophobia as a campaign platform, which should be telling. Do not judge a nation's character based on a few loud, yet inconsequential voices on social media. They do not represent South Africa accurately. Countries are a product of their history. We shouldn’t draw comparisons with where we come from and insist that our hosts should behave as we do. If South Africans were to follow our practices in Zimbabwe, refugees would be in camps and illegal foreigners would be in jail! In Zimbabwe, refugees are not even allowed to work, if you are found working, you are thrown into jail. South Africa, on the other hand, provides equal legal rights in its courts to foreigners as it does to South Africans. These actions are not those of a xenophobic country. Zimbabwe has refused to issue documents to people of Malawian and Zimbabwean origin, and it has revoked the citizenships of many Zimbabweans whose great-grandparents came from elsewhere. In any society, you are going to have opportunistic politicians and unemployables who think that all their problems are caused by foreigners, we have them everywhere, but they shouldn’t be used to define a whole nation!show more

This is tragic and painful to watch. A South... African telling another fellow South African that they cannot work in another South African province simply because they come from a different province. Someone once warned that when xenophobes and Afrophobes are done targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, they will eventually turn on fellow South Africans. That warning is now becoming reality. Imagine a black South African telling another black South African that they do not “look like people from this province”, therefore they cannot work there. How painful is that? To be told in your own country that you do not belong because of how you look, how you speak, or where you come from. This is backward. This is dangerous. This is a tragic failure of critical thinking and leadership. South African leaders should never allow this poison to grow. History has already shown us where this type of thinking leads. In Rwanda, people were divided, dehumanised and eventually butchered on the basis of identity and appearance. We should never allow Africa to move anywhere near that darkness again. What is happening is unacceptable on every level. It is heartbreaking as a black African to watch fellow black Africans treat each other this way. Those of us perceived to be elites are often insulated from this madness because we live in affluent areas and work internationally. But what about ordinary people trying to survive? Are we now saying a carpenter from Gauteng cannot travel to North West to look for work because he “does not look like people from there”? Come on. This is bad. Very bad. Africa cannot progress while people are taught to hate one another over provincial identities, ethnicity or nationality. Leaders across the continent must stand up firmly against this nonsense before it destroys communities and generations. This is Jacob Zuma, the former President of South... Africa, whose political party, MK, has been encouraging South Africans to chase not only undocumented immigrants out of the country, but even black Africans who are legally living and working in South Africa. His campaign vehicles have been driving around KwaZulu-Natal with loudspeakers urging people to drive black Africans out of the country, regardless of whether they are in South Africa legally or not. And then, after all of that, he flew to India to meet the Gupta family, the very people accused of helping to orchestrate the industrial-scale corruption that nearly bankrupted South Africa through state capture. When they faced accountability, they ran away from South Africa, first for Dubai and then for India. Think about the contradiction. A man whose campaign encourages hostility towards fellow Africans is, at the same time, embracing foreign friends who became synonymous with one of the biggest corruption scandals in South African history. By his own admission in this video, he has made it clear that he is unhappy with the direction the country took in pursuing those implicated in state capture. Meanwhile, ordinary black South Africans are being mobilised against fellow black Africans who are living in South Africa legally, while the political battle being fought is, in reality, about power, accountability and the legacy of state capture. They are being drawn into a campaign that serves political interests rather than addressing the country’s real challenges. History should record this moment. It should record the irony of fellow Africans being turned against one another while those accused of presiding over one of the darkest chapters of corruption in South Africa seek a return to political power. That is a tragedy that future generations should never forget.
