The situation in Al-Mahra Governorate is unclear. The southern... forces that were previously based there have essentially pledged loyalty to the Southern Forces Command of the Southern Transitional Council المجلس الانتقالي الجنوبي (STC). At the same time, there has been an increased mobilization of the National Shield Forces قوات درع الوطن (NSF) in Al-Mahra. The first NSF wave took control of positions where Saudi forces had been active, including Nashton Port and Al-Ghaydah Airport. However today, the NSF started securing key government buildings. For the moment, the border posts with Oman in Sarfait and Shahan continue to fly the southern flag, and the borders remain open. It would not be surprising, however, if they were closed given the ongoing security turmoil. In short, the situation in Al-Mahra remains unresolved. It is still unclear which side will emerge as the dominant security and military force: the Saudi-backed National Shield Forces or the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council forces.show more

UAE-funded activities are shutting down on the Yemeni island... of Socotra. Circulated videos shows the dismantling of a site that was intended to host the UAE’s annual Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival on the island. There are also reports that Emirati-linked business activities, particularly in the fisheries sector, as well as UAE-based travel agencies operating in Socotra, are closing down. These developments follow a decision by Yemen’s Saudi-backed, internationally recognized government to halt all direct maritime commercial shipping and airline traffic from the UAE to the island. To the best of my knowledge, there are currently no UAE military forces stationed on Socotra. The only foreign military presence on the island is a Saudi military task force operating alongside local forces. These local units have historically been aligned with the Southern Transitional Council المجلس الانتقالي الجنوبي العربي, but like other southern forces across South Yemen, they are now pledging loyalty to the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.show more

💢🇸🇦🇾🇪 REPORT | Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Ansar Allah... traded fire Monday in an escalation that shatters a years-long truce, as the Saudi-led coalition aircraft struck Sanaa International Airport and the Yemeni group retaliated by launching ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia in return. 🔸Ansar Allah said Saudi warplanes hit the runway at Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, at 1:54 p.m. to close the airport to humanitarian flights carrying patients and stranded people. Yemen’s Saudi-backed government said the strike was meant to stop an Iranian Mahan Air flight from landing without Saudi authorization. Another example of UAE soft power in southwestern Yemen... has emerged through the Southern Transitional Council المجلس الانتقالي الجنوبي. Supporters of the UAE-backed STC circulated footage from Al-Dhale’-Lahij governorate(s) showing what they claim are National Shield Forces قوات درع الوطن deployed near al-Anad air base preventing them from entering Aden to attend a rally called by the ousted STC leader عيدروس الزُبيدي - Aidaros Alzubidi. Last week, several senior members of the STC based in Riyadh announced the dissolution of the STC. However, factions operating in Aden, Mukalla, Socotra, Abu Dhabi, and abroad have rejected that announcement and continue to operate under the STC banner. While the STC enjoys visible support in Al-Dhale’ governorate, it faces staunch popular opposition in the central and eastern southern governorates. Al-Zubaidi has been formally accused by the internationally recognized Yemeni government of leading a rebellion and committing acts of treason, underscoring the contested legitimacy surrounding UAE-backed political actors in South Yemen. The conflict between the Kurds and the Syrian government has sharply escalated in recent days. Authorities in Damascus, backed by Turkey, have launched a large-scale offensive against the SDF. Earlier, they took Kurdish districts of Aleppo, then captured Tabqa and key dams on the Euphrates, pushing Kurdish forces to the river’s northern and eastern banks.
