Human Rights Alert: Escalating Targeted Violence Against #Somaliland Civilians... in Mogadishu #Somaliland Human Rights Defenders express grave concern over the escalating attacks targeting civilians originally from Somaliland—particularly members of the Isaaq community—residing in Mogadishu. In recent days, families of #Somaliland origin living in the capital have been assaulted inside their homes by armed groups wielding knives, axes, stones, and metal objects. These attacks appear organized and deliberate, aimed at inflicting harm on #Somaliland civilians solely on the basis of their identity. A videos recorded bystanders in Mogadishu, showing violent assaults against #Somaliland residents, has circulated widely on social media, further heightening fear among affected communities. This surge in violence began shortly after #Somaliland received international recognition, a development that has triggered inflammatory rhetoric from certain leaders within the Federal Government of #Somalia. Instead of promoting calm, these officials alongside some religious figures and segments of the Mogadishu public, have disseminated hate‑filled messages that dehumanize Somaliland civilians, justify violence against them, and frame them as legitimate targets for “jihad.” Such rhetoric has directly contributed to the mobilization of groups now committing communal attacks. #Somaliland Human Rights Defenders are deeply alarmed by this pattern of incitement and by the failure of federal authorities to protect vulnerable civilians. The deliberate spread of hate speech by influential figures constitutes a serious violation of international human‑rights norms and risks fueling further communal violence. This violence is part of a long and troubling pattern. In July 1998, fifty‑one #Somaliland‑origin businessmen, intellectuals, and university students were massacred at Jasiira Beach in Mogadishu by former Somali military officials linked to the family of Dictator Mohamed Siyad Barre. More recently, in February 2024, a Somaliland civil aviation official, Abdinasir Muse Dahable, was killed in his home in the Wadajir district of Mogadishu. According to medical investigation teams, his death resulted from torture. These incidents form part of a recurring wave of communal violence targeting Isaaq civilians in Mogadishu. We urgently call upon: - The United States and United Kingdom embassies, - United Nations offices in the Halane compound, and - The wider international community to publicly condemn the ongoing abuses and communal violence directed at Somaliland‑origin civilians in Mogadishu and across Somalia. We further urge international partners to press the Federal Government of Somalia to take immediate, concrete measures to restrain mobilized groups, prevent further attacks, and ensure the safety and protection of all civilians regardless of origin. Failure to act risks allowing this violence—sparked by political developments and inflamed by official rhetoric—to escalate into broader communal conflict. In light of the urgent protection needs of those affected, Somaliland Human Rights Defenders also call upon the Government of Somaliland to coordinate closely with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) to facilitate immediate assistance for victims of the Mogadishu communal violence. The majority of these civilians have expressed a clear willingness to relocate to Somaliland for safety. Effective collaboration with these humanitarian agencies is essential to ensure safe passage, emergency support, and dignified reception for all displaced #Somaliland‑origin families seeking protection. The IHRF calls upon all international humanitarian organizations and human rights bodies to urgently investigate this incident and the ongoing pattern of violence against Afghan civilians. ONGOING GENOCIDE IN UVIRA: Urgent Call for Action Against... Ethnic Cleansing In Uvira, the situation for Congolese Tutsis has taken a horrifying turn, as they are being targeted, massacred, and displaced by armed militias under the coordination of Justin Bitakwira and with the backing of President Félix Tshisekedi. Reports indicate that Wazalendo and Mai-Mai Yakutumba militias are executing a well-organized ethnic cleansing campaign, resulting in widespread violence, rape, and destruction. Bitakwira, known for his past inflammatory rhetoric against the Tutsis—referring to them as "born criminals"—has now turned his hate speech into action. With weapons distributed to militias and civilians, Uvira has become a battleground for ethnic extermination. Eyewitnesses report brutal killings, villages burned to the ground, and horrific cases of sexual violence against women and children. The world cannot remain silent in the face of such atrocities. The international community must take urgent steps to investigate and intervene before this genocide escalates further. Congolese citizens are calling on leaders, human rights organizations, and global institutions to stand against these crimes and demand justice. Silence is complicity. It is time to take action to stop the bloodshed in Uvira. #CongolaisTelema #EthnicCleansingshow more

This has got to be one of the most... disgusting things I have ever seen coming from Harvard. More than 30 Harvard University student organizations are holding Israel “entirely responsible” for the Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel: Joint Statement by Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups on the Situation in Palestine "We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence. Today's events did not occur in a vacuum. For the last two decades, millions of Palestinians in Gaza have been forced to live in an open-air prison. Israeli officials promise to "open the gates of hell," and the massacres in Gaza have already commenced. Palestinians in Gaza have no shelters for refuge and nowhere to escape. In the coming days, Palestinians will be forced to bear the full brunt of Israel's violence. The apartheid regime is the only one to blame. Israeli violence has structured every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years. From systematized land seizures to routine airstrikes, arbitrary detentions to military checkpoints, and enforced family separations to targeted killings, Palestinians have been forced to live in a state of death, both slow and sudden. Today, the Palestinian ordeal enters into uncharted territory. The coming days will require a firm stand against colonial retaliation. We call on the Harvard community to take action to stop the ongoing annihilation of Palestinians." NO! Israel is NOT “entirely responsible” for the slaughter of innocent people at a music festival, and the kidnapping of 100+ civilians, including women and children. No, the videos like the one below of peaceful young people running for their lives as they are attacked and kidnapped is NOT Israel's fault.show more

On Good Wednesday a sad news The forced marriage... of a 17-year-old girl to a 63-year-old man in Afghanistan is a profound injustice and a grave violation of human rights. Such cruelty strips girls of their dignity, freedom, and childhood, and can amount to sexual exploitation under coercive circumstances. If members of the Hazara community or any other community are subjected to these abuses, they deserve equal protection and justice. The UN, human rights organizations, and voices gathered at places such as Union Square must continue demanding accountability and an end to these violations against Afghanistan's women and girls.show more

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced that... President Biden's proposed $106 billion supplemental assistance package will include humanitarian aid to Armenia for the 120,000 Armenians forcibly displaced from Artsakh due to Azerbaijan's actions. The monetary figure for Armenia's aid is not specified. ANCA Programs Director Alex Galitsky (Alex Galitsky) emphasized that the existing $11.5 million aid is insufficient to address the urgent needs of those forcibly displaced by Azerbaijan's aggression. The ANCA is urging additional funding to support the displaced Armenians and ensure their right to return, with safety guaranteed through international monitoring. The ANCA (ANCA) is also requesting at least $10 million in foreign military financing (FMF) assistance to Armenia to address its immediate security requirements and deter potential aggression by Azerbaijan. These requests align with bipartisan legislation in the Senate and U.S. House, aiming to rectify the U.S. policy towards Azerbaijan and better support Armenia's humanitarian and security needs.show more

𝗔𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 In a deeply concerning escalation of military operations in Sheikhri Kalat, Balochistan, in past few days, Pakistani security forces have launched a campaign of collective punishment targeting civilian populations. Local reports confirm that at least three towns in the area have been subjected to severe military aggression, resulting in the enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing of residents. One of the most tragic incidents involved Bakhtiar Ahmed Baloch, who was fatally shot by Frontier Corps (FC) personnel after he reportedly urged the forces not to conduct disruptive search operations in residential areas that were distressing local women and children. Following his killing, his son and nephew were also forcibly disappeared, with no information provided to the family regarding their whereabouts. Eyewitness accounts further detail the destruction of approximately 80 to 100 homes by bulldozers. In addition, vital civilian infrastructure—including solar energy systems, water sources, gardens, and crops—was deliberately destroyed. These are essential for the people survival and livelihood in these areas. The operation has led to the mass displacement of families, many of whom were forced to flee without being allowed to take their personal belongings. When some residents attempted to return to retrieve basic necessities, they were met with threats and were denied access to their homes by the stationed forces. Many displaced families have now sought refuge in Kalat city, where they continue to face hardship and uncertainty, pleading for the right to return to their homes and to live without fear. These actions represent serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights standards. The use of collective punishment, the targeting of civilians, the destruction of civilian property, and the obstruction of safe return for displaced persons constitute grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions and other international human rights treaties to which Pakistan is a signatory. We urge the United Nations, international human rights bodies, and the global community to urgently investigate these incidents in Sheikhri Kalat and hold the Pakistani state accountable. Continued silence and inaction will only enable further atrocities and deepen the humanitarian crisis in Balochistan. #StopBalochGenocideshow more
