Here's our vibe check: - Beats GPT-5.5 on Senior Engineer bench. On our toughest benchmark Opus 4.8 scores a 63—a hair higher than GPT-5.5's score of 62, and a full 30 points higher than Opus 4.7. It tackled a ground-up rewrite of a production codebase, and actually built something that works. HOWEVER: Coding performance varied a lot at different reasoning levels. We recommend using it on xhigh for best results. - Incredibly good writer. Opus 4.8 scored a 79.6 on our writing benchmark—measuring models on real-world writing tasks we do all of the time like essay writing, promo email writing, and more. It beats GPT-5.5 by 6 points. It produces well-written prose with fewer "AI-isms". It's also very good at writing in your voice given the right context. HOWEVER: Writing performance also varied with reasoning levels. Medium reasoning had higher incidence of AI-isms—we found best results with high. - Beast at knowledge work. Updated the subagents system in my custom Pi extension... to include: - Pi subagents - Codex subagents - Claude Code subagents The Pi thread can call and spin up any of them, and instead of just using the "codex exec" or whatever, it'll do a tool call that wraps it up in a first class way. Have a decent UI for them already added in as well. Pi being the main thread then having Codex/Claude Code as tools when needed feels so good. A flow I'm already using a ton is: "Implement feature ___, have a cc fable subagent research and plan out the api design + feature, then have a codex subagent implement it, then have a cc fable subagent do a review/fixes focused on simplicity and correctness" I also have a dynamic workflows extension setup and working, but it's not nearly as polished yet. In the past week, I was able to build... the following games: - An endless runner - A tower defense - A Mario Party-like mini-game - An arena-based shooter The key unlock here was the ThreeJS skill With Opus 4.5 & GPT 5.2 - Claude Code / Codex CLI have much better end results now. With each game, I continued to update the skill based on bugs and issues faced - so it progressively got better and better at building the gameplay I was looking for. Claude Opus 4.7 vs GPT 5.4 (2/7) Testing how... well these models do with cloth physics simulation, and honestly I'm quite disappointed to see how poorly GPT 5.4 performed here. Performance was pretty bad... it added all the functionality (panning, cutting, dragging the curtain) under one mouse event, causing it to glitch out a lot. The scene also looks kinda shit. Opus 4.7 pretty much nailed the prompt. First of all, the angle and scene it picked are really nice, with the lamp just creeping into the frame. The dragging, wind physics, and cutting all worked. I also had to reprompt gpt 1-2 times to properly build and remove a bunch of ugly ui cards it added on top of the 3d scene. prompt: Build a premium Vite + React interactive cloth simulation of a cozy room curtain using real particle/constraint physics, with structural + shear springs, damping, collisions, and stable real-time deformation. Users should be able to drag the curtain, add wind, and cut constraints, while the experience stays polished, visually elegant, and numerically stable.show more

GPT-5.5 is MUCH more reliable on longer running tasks... - for the first time with any model. As we speak I have a migration running for over 7+ hours - this literally never happened before, the models would maybe run for 30 mins or of you really shout at them for 2-3 hours. Last night I went to sleep, set a long running task, then queued up 10 prompts to 'keep it going'. It did not stop after the first prompt and kept going for 8+ hours and I woke up to all the same prompts still queued up. The ability to run for a long time, in combination with ability to validate with computer use & other tools, makes it much more useful for building real applications.show more

I can't believe this is real I have GLM... 5.2 running 100% locally on my Mac Studio. 2 bit quant. The results I'm getting are better than Opus 4.8 It's now powering my Hermes Agent and Codex. 100% free, local, private super intelligence on my desk I also have it in a loop coding for me 24/7 now I thought we were at least a year away from this type of event. It happened today. The model takes up about 250gb of memory. So you can technically run it on a Mac Studio with 256gb, but you probably want the 512gb memory version (please tell me you listened to me 5 months ago when these were sitting on store shelves) With Fable gone, I now have Opus 4.8 level intelligence on my desk for free. While PixelUI is literally the smoothest and the best... animated UI I've personally ever used, it has the weirdest bug ever? 😭 And yes, that's right. Only ONE bug that I've faced so far. But it's a huge one. Navigation gestures have been set as default on Pixels for years now, and I personally thought Google had completely perfected them (if they are so confident in them). But apparently not. It's not even a consistent bug. Sometimes it's there, and sometimes it just disappears entirely on its own. When you open an app and then immediately close it, the animation can break ENTIRELY. And this started happening with Android 17 on my 10a. Android 16 was perfect. It just looks so bad, and I'm not even sure how or why it happens. It's very random. Personally, I'm fine dealing with linear and non-parallel animations which PixelUI still uses (meaning that animations can't be interrupted while in progress), but this is just unacceptable imo... I often open apps accidentally, so I immediately close them and almost every single time I face this thing. Please Google, your UI already is almost entirely bug-free (wink wink iOS). How could you let this slide 💔💔show more

Astra (GPT-6) is here!!! I've had early access and... tested it like crazy with things like games, code, writing, browser control, presentations and general knowledge work. This is the best model I've ever used. Period. (Incredible demos below in this thread ⬇️) Here's my take on Astra: > It's insanely capable. This feels like a massive improvement, not just an incremental change. This is especially true with zero-shot prompts. > It's all about knowledge work. Slide creation, analysis, writing, and browser control. And oh my...it's so good at browser control. GPT-5.6 was already fantastic at doing things in the browser, Astra is another level and significantly faster. > We're closer than ever (arrived?) at prompt-to-playable game. And I don't just mean only playable, these are actually fun games. I bet if someone with a great eye for games used Astra, they could create a viral game within 1-2 weeks. > Astra is better at writing but not perfect. It removes much of the "AI Smell" we're all familiar with but some stink still survived. > It has a tendency to use the same design colors and look/feel as GPT-5.6 (forrest green anyone?) but it is more steerable in design than previous models. > It's highly steerable in general. A little nudge goes a long way. When I first started using Astra, almost every task I gave it would go for ~30 minutes. I wanted it to keep working. Adding more specifics to a prompt helped greatly with it's ability to work for a long time. > Astra's 3D understanding is unmatched. 3D asset creation was consistent and easy and its spacial awareness while building complex 3D worlds blew me away. I've been missing your company. I came really close... to checking into a mental hospital. I haven't needed that kind of saving since the late 90's. I'm so frustrated with my health, and feeling that I'm not in control, that I didn't trust myself. I got the lower back MRI results today. It shows bulging discs, arthritis, and stenosis. ⚔️ Kingdom Come Deliverance first impressions ⚔️ Loving it... so far, basically a medieval detective simulator that really doesn't care that you are the main character. And I'm all here for it. ▪️The WORLD is the real star of the show here and even though it's got plenty of jank and lots of copy and paste NPC faces, it just feels so IMMERSIVE. Even the UI just transports me to the times with a bright colourful medieval art style. ▪️The MUSIC I love, absolutely sells the world and basically ASMR as you trot around on your horse through the world. ▪️THE Combat is a real interesting one, it's got quite the learning curve which I actually LIKE, it definitely has some jank to it as well but I really appreciate the attempt at an original and nuanced combat system. (Having to stop your bleeding with bandages is really cool) ▪️The Story has gripped me (19 hours in so far) And while it seems a simple revenge story on the face of it, I think the story is more about Henry making his way through the world after the horrors of Skallitz. The writing quality is top notch as well as the quest design also. ▪️The CHARACTERS are amazing and the humour is top notch. I'm not sure the last time I laughed so much at a game. Henry is great and so well voiced by Tom McKay This really feels like Warhorse Studios have put a lot of love and work into making an authentic medieval world and as a bit of a medieval nerd I can't get enough of this game. A True RPG as well by all accounts, the game really makes me think hard about how to approach situations. Also I can't wait to get to KCD2.show more

I'm still playing with 3D storyboards for Seedance 2.0.... Even when I ask for a 2D video, using a 3D storyboard often pushes the model toward a 3D look. I haven't tested it extensively yet but there definitely seems to be a bias. So 2D storyboards work better for 2D videos, while 3D storyboards are better suited for 3D or photorealistic outputs. Another thing I found is that my video prompt is already very detailed. If I remove the storyboard section and generate the video without attaching a storyboard, the model still follows the same beats. The main difference is the environment. With a storyboard, it tends to recreate an environment that closely matches the storyboard. I also think storyboards help with certain poses and compositions. The gold standard fluid interactions on iOS are built... using in-process client animations (like SwiftUI does it) and not render-server animations (like CoreAnimation does it). This is common knowledge inside of Apple’s UI framework and system experience teams. A close inspection of iOS’s evolution reveals the gradual upgrading of system experiences written using render-server animations (that often disable user interaction) with ones using client animations (that are interruptible and interactive). The app switcher for iPhone X, the Dynamic Island, and Liquid Glass bars are prime examples of this trend. The other thing that makes these experiences feel so fluid is their use of spring animations that preserve velocity, rather than Bézier curve easing functions. To get velocity preservation, you need to be able to interrupt a spring animation and retarget it or drive it with a gesture. That’s a lot easier to do when the animation is running in the same process as the event handling. When we were first pitching SwiftUI, two of our go-to demos were a recreation of the iOS 9 navigation and Home Screen interactions which were fully interactive and interruptible, at a time when the actual implementations of those experiences in the OS disabled user interaction and ran server-side animations. CoreAnimation is great and the framework does much more than animation. You can build a fine app using its server-side animations. But if your UI framework can’t do efficient main thread client animations, there’s a ceiling to the quality of the experience your app can provide.show more

I've been testing out Windows 11's new Haptic Signals... feature on compatible hardware, and I think I love it. I'm someone who yearns for small UX details like this, and I'm so happy to see Microsoft leaning into subtle but quality UX implementations like haptics across the Windows Shell. These new Haptic Signals provide a subtle bump when interacting with certain UI elements and actions, such as snapping app windows or dragging files in File Explorer. The feedback response feels great and intentional, and makes using the OS feel more satisfying. There's still room for improvement, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed with this first implementation. It's only supported on a handful of devices for now, but that should change over time. I've always loved the haptic feedback layered throughout Google Pixel phones, and now Windows is getting its own version of it. More UX niceties like this, please!show more
