I have a tendency when lifting to keep adding... weight without paying much attention. I don’t use this machine often. Set done. I calculated the weight and thought, “320? That can’t be right.” Then I checked the plate on the machine: starting weight 118 lb (53 kg). That would make it 438 lb total. This machine must be easier to push. I like the Hammer Strength iso-lateral chest/back machine as... a change-up for lat pull downs. I keep the weight a little lighter. Go for a big stretch at the top (I don't do this on regular lat pull down) but the weight needs to be light enough you can retract and pull the weight down when you transition. If in doubt, don't go for a big stretch at the top and stick with normal lat pull down movement! Stay Stronk!show more

Loaded the machine press anyway. Sat down. Looked at the weight. Thought about Keith. Keith does not assess his mood before eating a bramble. Keith does not arrive at the fence and think "I'm a bit flat today, maybe I'll have a look tomorrow." Keith arrives, identifies the weak point, applies methodical consistent pressure until the fence does something, files the result away, and does it again. The fence doesn't care how Keith feels. The bramble doesn't require Keith to be motivated. The machine press does not require you to feel like it. Pressed the weight. The weight moved. Obviously the weight moved. I asked our sound designer Gurwal to make this... moment feel like as if a sound recorder on the set would actually be swept away by the flood. As if they wouldn’t be able hold on to the microphone and get the right levels making the sound just barely usable. I wanted it to feel rough, raw and dirty. Initially I thought that this would be loud, but Gurwal suggested instead that the sound should almost dissapear, which I think made the scene way more impactful. I learned a lot by working with Gurwal. Like in this case that less can be more.show more
