I really wanted to visit this building while in... China, but couldn't make it there. Can you reside in this kind of building? This is the world's largest residential building named Regent International, Hangzhou, China. Standing 675 feet tall, it spans an enormous 1.47 million square meters. With 39 floors and thousands of apartments, it currently houses over 20,000 residents. However, the structure is built to accommodate even more—up to 30,000 people. It was originally a luxury hotel, it’s now a self-contained complex with supermarkets, pools, and shops. This is really massive and it's functioning like a small city. But fire must not happen in this building oooooo...how will everyone evacuate? CREDIT: #AdejokeLasisi #ibadangirlshow more

The Regent International building in Hangzhou, China, is an... S-shaped skyscraper that was initially designed as a luxury hotel but later converted into apartments, now housing over 20,000 residents in densely packed units. Rising 206 meters across 36 to 39 floors, the building includes internal amenities such as supermarkets, pools, and food courts, creating a self-contained environment where many residents rarely need to leave.show more

I heard this beautiful filling station in World Bank,... Owerri, Imo Stateis owned by an Anambra man from Aguata. Now, I have a question….if this Anambra man can display this level of taste and creativity in another South Eastern state, why is it so difficult for them to replicate this kind of modern architecture in Anambra? Why is it so hard? Is it because there is already an established building pattern in Anambra that everyone is expected to follow or is it simply that people are unwilling to try something different? He came to Owerri…saw the modern building pattern here, and adapted to it. So if they decide to build something different and more modern in Anambra, what exactly will happen? Beautiful filling station I must say. The supermarket is also really nice. I love it. ❤️show more

I have never encountered this in China. This is... my first time in Hopson One, the 190,000 square meter mall with over 260 places to eat alone in downtown Beijing. It is in the center of four subway lines, and this crowd is crazy. You literally have to wait in line to use the escalator, and you can forget about using the elevator… that's not happening. We took people here because on the fifth floor there is an area with about ten EV brands where you can sit in the cars and experience them. It's part of our Youth Tech China Trek. It is our last day, just a short stop to relax, but it is really giving people a view into how much activity and bustle there is in China. I haven't seen this in any other malls, which look more like American ones, frankly, with a lot less traffic. But this one is so crowded. I was actually here yesterday (Friday night at 9:30pm, right before closing) to confirm which EV models were on display, and there were still lines!!!show more

This is the General Sherman Tree, the largest living... tree on Earth by volume. It stands in Sequoia National Park and is estimated to be about 2,200 years old. It rises roughly 275 feet tall, with a base circumference of around 102 feet and more than 52,000 cubic feet of trunk volume. It is not the tallest tree in the world, but in total mass, nothing living surpasses it. Its bark is over two feet thick, built to withstand insects and fire. In fact, periodic fire helps giant sequoias regenerate. In person, the scale is difficult to grasp. Standing at its base, people look almost unreal beside it. It feels less like a tree and more like a monument that happens to be alive.show more

JHB CBD …. 🙂 is in a state, that... you have to SEE - to Believe. These buildings are worth saving. Solid Structures that were built to Last. Unfortunately, most are in a shocking condition. These neglected buildings Can accommodate thousands of people in low cost units. But nobody cares, so the buildings get to this stage, and people are forced to live in poor conditions, because hijacker’s and bad actors in the CBD, who profit from this poverty don’t care as long as they get paid. We took this building back. And now will fix and secure this building, and maybe it can motivate other building owners, the COJ, and South African’s in general to TAKE BACK Their City. And if they don’t want to comply - call us. Panyaza Lesufi 🙏🏽show more

It’s honestly just a sad day to be a... BC Conservative. Standing there in 2024 watching this party make history and come so close to forming government felt like the beginning of something huge. Now it feels like I’m watching it break apart into a million pieces. And what makes it harder is watching people I genuinely care about and worked with in the Legislature, walk away. I’m not even mad. I’m just really, really sad.show more

This looks like a music video. But the real... story is what’s happening behind it. For years, creating visuals like this meant big budgets, big teams, and long timelines. Now it starts with a prompt. Seedance 2.0 on Higgsfield AI 🧩 makes this level of output accessible to anyone who knows what they want to create. That’s the shift. Not replacing creativity but removing the barriers around it. And with up to 70% off + 7 days unlimited, there’s really no reason to just watch this better to start building with it. 👉show more

This individual is basically asking about how the devs... at DICE handled lightmaps in Battlefield 4 (baked global illumination) when it came to dynamic events like buildings collapsing, which is an excellent question! In the video I provided here, you can see lightmaps on the building, particularly the balconies. Essentially, when it’s time for the building to collapse, a dynamic animated version of the building is immediately instantiated in the exact location of the old one. You can actually see this happening too. Before the building collapses, you can see a weird flicker effect. That flicker is the lightmaps disappearing entirely, because a different version of the same building that lightmaps won’t function on replaces the static light mapped building. Really cool stuff!show more

This is the Gate Tower Building in Osaka, Japan.... The 16-storey office building has a highway running through the middle of it (floors 5-7). Its wild design is due to a legal battle in the mid-1980s between real estate developers and the local government. The landowners planned to redevelop the area but Osaka’s government had designated part of the site for a ~150 mile network of highways called the Henshin Expressway. Neither party budged and a 5-year negotiation ensued. In 1989, Osaka — which is Japan’s 3rd largest city by population (Tokyo, Yokohama) — revised various development laws and building codes to let a highway pass through a tower. The Gate Tower Building was finished in 1992 with the following compromises: ▫️The Expressway is the official tenant of Floors 5-7 ▫️ Office building elevators skip those floors (only go to 1-4 and 8-16) ▫️ The highway is its own structure and held up by separate pillars (doesn’t touch the building) Gate Tower is surprisingly un-noisy because the floors and windows and are sound proof. In sum: Japan’s land use game is next level.show more

I really dislike how generative ai applications often shortcut... our thinking straight to the highest fidelity... I think we've solved a lot of this when it comes to more dense workflows like building Apps, but even with general knowledge work I want tools that add helpful friction to the process. This is an exploration of what that could mean for an experience like generating slides. Sliding fidelity between the outline, structure, and final output.show more

Some folks are saying Deep Seek censors certain topics... (like Tiannamen Square) because it's a Chinese app. This is not true. Deep Seek is an open source LLM. You can download it, or host it outside China, and use it however you want. If you use its chat interface that's based in China, it will have to comply with the Chinese regulations. But outside China, you can do pretty much anything. For our app Research Kick, we are hosting it in the US. You can see, it answers my question about Tiannamen Square.show more
