Six men started vomiting while filming The Odyssey. Christopher... Nolan approached with a camera and asked: “Is it ok we shoot?” During the 2025 production, the cast filmed on the open ocean aboard real ships, including the wooden longship Draken. They learned to row and raise its sails, working alongside professional sailors dressed as extras. Then, on one rough day, the swell and wind created a wave pattern that left six men severely seasick, according to Matt Damon. They were leaning over the side, throwing up. They gave Nolan permission to film. He used the footage in scenes showing Odysseus’s devastated crew after an encounter at sea. Their distress was real. Nolan later described that miserable day as producing some of his favourite shots in the film. The ocean also provided an unexpected moment, dolphins playing in the waves beside the ship. Nolan captured them with Damon looking out over the rough sea, a shot he said many viewers assumed was CGI.show more

Christoper Nolan famously prefers practical effects over CGI (somehow,... “Oppenheimer” has no CGI). He took the approach to the next level in “Interstellar”. Instead of digitally recreating a corn field, Nolan spent $100,000 to plant one and sold it for a profit afterwards. Why practical effects? Nolan digitally enhances his shots but prefers working on location and with cameras. “It’s more fun for me and the actors,” he said of his approach during an interview with the BBC. “There’s nothing more dispiriting than showing up to a green screen. The magic is not there.” For the “Interstellar” cornfield, the most difficult part was finding a location to plant 500 acres of the crop. The script called for farm land near a mountain (not a ton of those around). Nolan tapped Zack Snyder for advice because the director had filmed a cornfield in “Superman”. The final location: a plot of land outside of Calgary, Alberta. The intention was never to grow the corn for sale, just to get some awesome shots. But Nolan later said “we got a pretty good crop and made some money on it.”show more

Bo Jackson drilled Nolan Ryan in the face with... a comebacker. Naturally, Ryan recovered and still threw him out. On Sept. 8, 1990, Ryan stayed in the game with blood running down his jersey and gave Texas seven innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 win over Kansas City. He needed six stitches afterward. Thirty-six years later, that bloody jersey is still one of the most unmistakably Nolan Ryan images ever.show more

The vet had been honest with the Hollands. Baxter... didn't have much time left, and the kindest thing they could do now was make whatever he had left count. So on a warm Saturday in June , instead of a normal quiet day at home, they loaded the old Bernese into the back of the van and drove him two hours to the coast. Baxter had never seen the ocean. He was 13, and his whole life had been the backyard and the same worn spot on the living room rug. The kids wanted him to see something big before he went. He moved slow getting out of the van. His back legs weren't what they used to be, and the boys had to help him down onto the sand. For a second he just stood there at the top of the beach, nose up, taking in all that salt air and open water like he couldn't quite believe it. Then something in him shifted. He started down toward the surf on his own, stiff and determined, the way he used to trot to the door when the kids came home from school. When the first cold wave washed over his paws, his whole face lit up. He didn't run, he couldn't, but he waded in up to his chest and stood in the shallow water with the sun going down behind him, and the whole family just watched. Nobody said much. They didn't need to. They stayed until the light was almost gone, taking pictures, letting Baxter rest against their legs, giving him one perfect afternoon to hold onto. The vet was right about the time. Baxter left them a few weeks later, at home, surrounded by the people who loved him. But he saw the ocean first. And every one of them is glad they gave him that.show more

JUST IN: The man who went viral for punching... someone in the face, says he was a victim of four "Queers for Palestine" protesters who allegedly assaulted him. Moelis & Co banker Jonathan Kaye is claiming he was "attacked" before being caught on film throwing a punch. Kaye says he was being taunted after he told the protesters they were "on the wrong side." "He just said "you are on the wrong side", and then the four of them came at him, they threw liquids at him. He didn't know what the liquid was. They were shouting slurs at him," a friend told the Daily Mail. "He fell or he was chest bumped, and can't remember that bit. But he ended up on the pavement with them four over him." "He got up and swung at one as he was trying to escape, and then he ran." Kaye is Jewish according to the source. "It was a super anti-Semitic attack of four individuals ganging up against one Jewish man."show more

The story of Atlantis comes from the ancient Greek... philosopher Plato, who wrote about it in his works Timaeus and Critias. He described Atlantis as a large and powerful island civilization that existed far out in the Atlantic Ocean. According to the story, Atlantis was highly advanced, with great buildings, canals, and a well organized society. The city itself was said to be built in rings, with land and water laid out in a careful pattern. At first, the people of Atlantis lived in balance and followed higher principles, but over time they became greedy, corrupt, and focused on power. Plato’s account says that as the people changed, their society began to fall apart. The gods, seeing this decline, decided to punish Atlantis. In a single day and night of disaster, the island was struck by massive earthquakes and floods. The land broke apart, and the entire civilization sank into the sea, disappearing beneath the water. The story was passed down as a warning about what can happen when a society loses its values and becomes consumed by control and excess.show more

Jesus did not calm the storm after the disciples... got their faith together. He calmed it while they were still terrified. That is the part that stays with me. In Mark 4, He said, “Let us go over to the other side.” Then He slept through the waves. The men who lived on that lake—fishermen who knew weather—were sure they were going to die. They did not whisper a polite prayer. They woke Him with a charge: “Teacher, don’t You care if we drown?” He stood up and spoke to creation: “Quiet! Be still.” The wind stopped. The water went flat. Then He asked the harder question: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The miracle was not only that the sea obeyed. The miracle was that the One who made the sea was already in the boat. If you are in a storm tonight—health, family, money, a night that will not quiet down—this story is not asking you to pretend you are not afraid. It is asking you to remember who is in the boat with you. Fear can be loud. His word is louder. Read it yourself: Mark 4:35–41. Matthew 8:23–27. #Jesus #Bible #Mark4 #Faith #Gospel #Scripture #PeaceBeStill #ChristianFaithshow more

🚨 QUICK NOLAN WELLS CASE UPDATE New details have... emerged in the investigation into the death of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells. GPS boat tracking data and a distress call for help corroborate key witness timelines from the July 4 boat trip to Horn Island, Mississippi. The emergency call reported mechanical issues, including the boat taking on water and bilge pump problems, around the time the vessel left the island at approximately 4 30–4 31 pm without Wells aboard. His body was later recovered on July 6 near the northwest tip of Horn Island. Wells’ parents met with the district attorney and are now prepared to provide Nolan’s cellphone to investigators. They have also raised concerns about possible deleted messages and discrepancies in location data from apps such as Life360. At this time, authorities have stated they do not suspect foul play. Nolan’s funeral is scheduled for Monday. Investigators continue to ask anyone with information to come forward as they work toward a complete understanding of what happened. The GPS data and distress call do NOT indicate what happened to Nolan or establish a cause of death. What they do appear to do is corroborate the timeline that witnesses and Nolan’s friends have consistently provided regarding the boat’s departure from Horn Island.show more
