According to a U.S. Park Police officer, “The National Park Service revoked their permit.” The question is, why did it take so long? The tents were occupied around the clock by leftist activists from a spinoff of Mayday Movement USA, a group called FLARE (For Liberation and Resistance Everywhere). For some reason, while President Trump had ordered the National Park Service to remove homeless encampments around D.C. and is engaged in efforts to beautify our capital city, this dump was allowed to stay. The permit revoking comes 2 days after the government shutdown began and 2 days after Cam Higby 🇺🇸 was assaulted by a leftist at the encampment while he tried to engage in debate and dialogue with anyone willing to talk to him. I wonder if either of those factors played a role in the permit finally being revoked. It is worse than dishonest - it is an absolute lack of care. Penny Wong came to this country when she was 8 years old. She came to a country that afforded her the ability to become who she is, and she is now doing her part to destroy it. Back in the 70’s, when she came, Australia was a fair-minded place and a great place to be. Yet here she is... Here in Australia. Undermining our country and lying to our faces. Because she can’t tell the truth. Because if she did, it would destroy any semblance of care for Australia tied to her old party’s Labor brand. It would say the quiet part out loud. The truth. The truth that the Albanese government is more interested in the fortunes of the ISIS brides, women who chose to leave this country to go and fight against our people, than those of us that can’t find or afford a place to live here at home. I am tired of being told how to think by people that completely lack morals and couldn’t care less. Though this video might not look like much, it... shows something pretty remarkable. This footage, which we captured this past September on the Kabetogama Peninsula, is the first confirmed observation of lynx kittens in Voyageurs National Park (and one of only a few observations of known lynx reproduction in the Greater Voyageurs Ecosystem). Although lynx have been observed/documented in the park sporadically for several decades, there has never been evidence of kittens in the park (i.e., a breeding population of lynx). As a result, most lynx in and around Voyageurs are likely transitory individuals (predominantly males) roaming large area. From 2000 to 2004, biologists with the National Park Service made a concerted effort to study lynx in the park. They only documented the presence of one male and one female, and concluded “lynx were either transient or present at a low density”. Another study from 2007-2008 in and around Voyageurs National Park using trail cameras and snow tracking did not detect the presence of lynx. However, they noted that there were some sightings of lynx outside of the park with one unconfirmed report of a female lynx with a kitten observed to the west of the park. The researchers concluded that “even though patches of high-density snowshoe hare habitat exist in the Voyageurs National Park area, the low density of snowshoe hares at the landscape level would not support resident lynx”. Based on this research and some subsequent work, researchers with the park concluded in 2015 “it does not appear that there are currently resident lynx”. In fact, the researchers in 2012 concluded: ‘only three confirmed observations of adult lynx have occurred within the boundaries of VNP since 2001”. Obviously, studying these elusive animals in places like Voyageurs has historically been difficult because trail camera technology was not what it is today (or did not exist). However, trail cameras have provided a great tool to observe and understand lynx in places like Voyageurs. Skip forward to today: we now routinely get numerous observations of lynx each year in Voyageurs National Park as well as outside the park. Many observations are likely of the same few individuals wandering around, though, based on physical appearances, it seems we are capturing observations of more than 1 or 2 lynx. That said, in general, our trail camera data generally supports the conclusions of the Voyageurs National Park researchers. Most lynx likely are transient individuals, and certainly lynx are at low densities in and around Voyageurs. Nonetheless, this observation of a lynx with two kittens shows that lynx can reproduce in this area, though such occurrences are likely rare. One observation of reproduction is not evidence of a self-sustaining resident population but it suggests it might be possible. Anyway, this finding just highlights how our trail cameras, which are deployed to study wolves, simultaneously capture rare and valuable data on other wildlife species that have been traditionally difficult to study. Kīlauea Eruption Update — Episode 51 of Kīlauea summit... lava fountaining began at 8:30 a.m. HST today, July 15, and is ongoing. This is the 51st lava fountaining episode in the eruption that began in Kīlauea summit caldera in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park on December 23, 2024. The lava fountain from the north vent is reaching an estimated 100 feet high above the vent. According to the National Weather Service, low-level trade winds below the inversion level (about 8,000-10,000 feet above sea level) will move the lower part of the plume to the southwest and result in tephrafall in that direction (towards the District of Kaʻū). Above the inversion layer, south winds are forecast, which could push parts of the plume to the north and result in ash and Pele’s hair falling in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and communities adjacent to it. Fountaining episodes typically last 12 hours or less, but ash can remain in the air for longer depending on wind and weather conditions. These dogs are a living, breathing testament to the... impact of our field conservation work. 20 years ago, when we started working in the Northern Area of Tsavo East National Park, it was rare to see a single African wild dog. They are vulnerable to snares, human-wildlife conflict, and disease, and illegal activities in the area had taken their toll on the species. In partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, we started extensive anti-poaching work in the Northern Area, installing teams in the landscape and conducting regular ground and aerial patrols. By removing snares and reducing threats across the ecosystem, we helped create an environment where the dogs could rebound. Two decades later, the Northern Area is home to several healthy African wild dog packs. This one has about 16 members, and another nearby pack numbers around 40. To go from barely a single sighting to packs numbering in the dozens is a wonderful testament to how our anti-poaching efforts are paying off. SANParks has launched an investigation to trace and identify... a man seen in viral social media footage allegedly engaging in dangerous and unlawful driving inside the Kruger National Park. They described the incident as deeply concerning and condemned the driver’s actions as reckless, irresponsible and a serious violation of conservation laws. According to SANParks, the footage shows the individual illegally crossing rivers with a vehicle, driving on roads that had officially been closed, and operating the vehicle recklessly within the protected area. Authorities said the conduct displayed a blatant disregard for public safety, environmental protection measures, conservation regulations and the authority of park management. SANParks stressed that national parks are protected under strict environmental legislation, including the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (NEMPAA). These laws prohibit activities that could damage ecosystems, threaten biodiversity, endanger wildlife or compromise visitor safety. The organisation warned that violations could result in criminal charges, substantial fines, imprisonment, civil claims for damages and administrative sanctions. The agency highlighted that driving through rivers and ignoring road closures can severely damage sensitive ecosystems and infrastructure, while also putting both humans and animals at risk. Road closures in the park are often implemented for critical safety reasons, including flooding, poor road conditions and wildlife movement. SANParks confirmed that officials are actively working to identify the suspect and warned that once located, he could face the full might of the law, including fines and a possible ban from all SANParks-managed protected areas. SANParks said, “We are looking for this individual, and he will face the music.” The organisation also confirmed that gate officials allegedly seen in the video encouraging or supporting the conduct will face consequences for violating park regulations and staff conduct rules.
