Early tracking data shows that some have already travelled to the Sri Lanka Dome, a little known ocean region where marine life gathers in extraordinary numbers. What makes this even more astonishing is that turtles migrating from Odisha are also expected to arrive in the same waters. Species from distant coastlines are converging at one natural marine hotspot shaped entirely by the rhythm of the ocean. The Sri Lanka Dome is created by powerful seasonal ocean processes that bring cool, nutrient-rich waters to the surface. This fuels plankton blooms and attracts turtles, fish, whales, seabirds, and countless other marine species. It is one of the most productive upwelling zones in the world’s oceans, beginning in May, reaching its peak in July, and declining in September. At that time, the turtles move out of the region and begin their return migration once again. These journeys reveal that turtles do not belong to one shoreline or one state. Their lives depend on a CONNECTED ocean, where feeding grounds, migration corridors, and breeding beaches all matter equally. New: A woman is in critical condition after being... struck by a bullet in a possible extortion-related shooting in Surrey’s Whalley area early this morning. Her partner told me she was lying in bed, trying to sleep, when the bullet hit her left shoulder. He says that she’s a 26 year old international student. Said they had just said goodnight when he felt a vibration from the next room. Moments later, she staggered in clutching her shoulder, bleeding from a gunshot wound. At least seven shots were fired into a home packed with people - as many as 20 residents, all renting rooms in the same house. Another resident said he moved in just a week ago - after the previous house he was renting, in the 10700-block of 141 St, was shot at on Oct. 6. The owner of that house, is apparently the landlord of this one as well. Surrey Police Service says it’s investigating links to extortion.show more

On the desk of the 13-year-old emperor is a jade cup, and its prototype comes from the jade cup of Emperor Wu of Han's great-grandson, now in the Xianyang Museum, which I shared not long ago. The incense burner beside him is also not a random prop. It is based on the one used by Emperor Wu of Han's sister and legendary brother-in-law, which I just shared yesterday. There are also other artifacts appearing in other scenes that were based on prototypes I recommended to the production team. I'll introduce them one by one in future posts. I have always admired works that strive to restore historical details in art as faithfully as possible. The death of Brian Rossiter occurred at Cork University Hospital in Cork, Ireland, on 14 September 2002, as a result of head injuries he had sustained several days earlier. Fourteen-year-old Brian Rossiter had been arrested for a public order offence on the night of 10/11 September 2002, falling into a coma whilst in custody at Clonmel garda station. Prior to his arrest, Rossiter had been assaulted by Noel Hannigan, who was later found guilty of this offence and sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment. However, the case was the focus of much controversy and media speculation within Ireland, owing to concerns as to whether the injuries that caused Rossiter's death occurred, not as a result of Hannigan's assault, but while he was in custody. BREAKING: Authorities have identified the man shot and killed... on I-15 last Friday, March 27 as Sayed Mousavi, a 29-year-old living in Sandy. Investigators say the incident unfolded around 4:56 p.m. along I-15 near 3500 South, when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle was struck by a car driven by Mousavi, who was traveling northbound. After both vehicles came to a stop, the trooper approached and made contact. According to Utah Highway Patrol, Mousavi then brandished a knife, prompting the trooper to open fire. Mousavi was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper was not injured. The investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by the Salt Lake County OICI Protocol Team 4, led by the West Jordan Police Department. No additional details have been released. Mousavi pleaded guilty in a case from November 2024, he was arrested in Sandy after authorities said he made threats to “kill Americans and kill the U.S.A.” Prosecutors also alleged he told police he planned to “buy guns and shoot up the Sandy Police Department.” In that case, Mousavi was charged with one count of making a threat of terrorism, three counts of failing to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, and a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license.show more

The 35-year-old man, who was arrested for raping a... seven-year-old girl and inserting iron in her private parts, was booked for attempted murder after he attacked cops with a sickle and tried to escape on Wednesday night. The police fired in self-defense and two bullets hit the accused #Ramsingh's leg in the village of #Jasdan taluka where they had taken him for recovery of the rod. After recovering the rod from his field, the cops reached Ramsingh's house where he suddenly picked up a sickle and launched the attack which left Dharmesh Bavaliya, head constable with the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Rajkot Rural police, injured. HC Gohil and KM Chavda, both police sub-inspectors, fired from their service revolvers to prevent him from fleeing. Bavaliya suffered injuries in the chest and arm. The police control room was informed and both were first taken to KD. Parvadia Hospital in #Atkot for treatment and later shifted to the civil hospital in #Rajkot city late at night. Rajkot Rural superintendent of police (SP) Vijaysinh Gurjar had told reporters that the accused committed the sexual assault in about 10 minutes. He was familiar with the girl and her family, knowing that they were originally from #Dahod and had come here to work as farm labourers, Gurjar said. Police said the girl cried out during the assault, which agitated the accused, who then inserted the rod in her. Ramsingh is on police remand until December 15 in this rape case. We rescued Chemi Chemi in June 2009 from Loisaba Conservancy – a young bull, eight months old, in desperate need of food and company. Brought to Nairobi where we gave him one-to-one care from our Keepers and the comfort and company of a new herd, he recovered. When he outgrew the Nursery, he graduated to our Ithumba Reintegration Unit alongside his bull friends – and the rest, as they say, is history. Nineteen years on from his rescue, Chemi Chemi is wild. Heartening to see resident pelicans and other birds in... Ennore. A very fruitful field visit to Ennore Creek with my team to review the mangrove restoration and new plantation work undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, GOTN, after the oil spill in December 2023. With support from the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust, we took a massive eco-restoration drive for Mangroves. Over the past two years, more than 230 hectares of invasive Prosopis have been cleared, making way for new mangrove plantations. 1.6 lakh mangrove seedlings and 2 lakh mangrove associate plants, including species like Avicennia marina, Rhizophora mucronata, and Excoecaria agallocha have been planted across 9 villages, including Puzhuthivakkam, Katupalli, and Edayanchavadi. Advanced techniques such as fishbone and linear planting were adopted based on soil and water analysis. The initiative has not only revived the ecosystem but also created local employment. Currently, 32,000 mangrove and 40,000 associate seedlings are being raised to replace casualties using the southwest monsoon. A seven-year-old boy died after his neck got trapped... in the hydraulic door of a parked bus at a garage in Gujarat's Vadodara, police said. The incident happened on Wednesday evening at a garage on the outskirts of Vadodara. The child, identified as Divyesh Rathwa, was playing near the garage when he entered the parked bus. According to police, the bus was stationary when its door suddenly closed, trapping the boy by his neck. Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Gupta said the circumstances were being investigated and that an accidental death report had been registered. Divyesh lived with his parents, who work as labourers, in accommodation behind the garage. According to the police, the child was playing in the area before the incident. Another account of the incident said Divyesh had left his home telling his mother that he was going to the market. When he did not return, his family began looking for him. The search eventually led them to the bus, where the boy was found trapped in the door. Police said CCTV footage from the garage captured what happened next. The footage showed two men who were present at the garage attempting to rescue the child. They pushed the bus door open after noticing that Divyesh was trapped. By then, however, the boy had lost consciousness. He was taken to a hospital in an unconscious condition. Doctors examined him but declared him dead. The police investigation is continuing.show more

Facial reconstruction of a 3,600-year-old Mycenaean Greek In the... middle of the 20th century, archaeologists discovered in Mycenae Grave Circle B, another royal cemetery that preceded Grave Circle A. The burial complex was discovered accidentally in 1951 when workers were excavating a nearby 13th-century BCE tomb known as the Tomb of Clytemnestra. Grave Circle B consists of 26 graves, dated to 1675–1550 BC, including 14 shaft graves. The shafts, up to 12 meters deep, were marked by burial mounds or stone stelae. The cemetery was probably used for about 100 years. The remains of 35 individuals were found in the graves. The large number of undisturbed graves allowed archaeologists to gain insight into the life of the Mycenaean elite of that time. In the women’s graves, many ornaments were found: earrings, necklaces, and gold and silver pins. Alongside the male skeletons were swords, daggers, and arrowheads; men’s clothing was decorated with gold. In one of the graves, a helmet made entirely of boar’s tusks was discovered. There are more female skeletons than male ones, and overall the female burials are richer. A unique find is a posthumous mask made of electrum, which was not placed on the deceased’s face but kept in a wooden box beside him. Another interesting artifact is a duck-shaped bowl made of rock crystal. Unlike the remains from Grave Circle A, the skeletons from the burials of Grave Circle B are well preserved. The bones of the men show traces of combat injuries, suggesting that some of these individuals likely died in battle. As early as the 1950s, it was suggested that members of several (probably four) noble families were buried in Cemetery B over 3–4 generations. To test this hypothesis, in 1995 anthropologists reconstructed faces from seven skulls found in the burials. Researchers discovered a clear resemblance between two individuals — Z59 and F51 — and divided the seven buried individuals into three groups: “heart-shaped,” “elongated,” and “beak-shaped” faces. In 2008, a genetic study was conducted on 22 skeletons from Grave Circle A. Samples were taken from mandibles and clavicles. Mitochondrial DNA was successfully obtained from four individuals, showing that a man and woman from the same grave (where the posthumous mask was found) were brother and sister. Researchers believe that both men and women of the royal lineage in this ancient society inherited power by right of birth. The skull of an individual from grave Sigma (Σ131) is particularly well preserved. It is the only one in which the lower jaw was present. It is believed that he may have been the founder of the dynasty that established this cemetery, since his grave is one of the earliest in Circle B. There were no pottery or metal objects in his grave, but the burial was marked by a large heap of stones. The anthropologist Lawrence Angel reckoned that he lived to be about 55 years old, judging from the exostoses on his shoulders and feet. Although today these would not be considered precise indicators of age—and his dental age may have been slightly younger than 55—he was still the oldest of all those buried in Circle B. Angel described him as a massively built man, big enough to draw attention in a crowd, and estimated his height at 1.75 m. He suffered from osteoporosis and had a large abscess above the upper right permanent lateral incisor.show more

Iran Loses Frigate and Yak-130 and Decides to Deploy... Jet-Powered Kamikaze Drones An Iranian frigate was sunk near Sri Lanka, nearly 4,000 km from the theater of operations. Another Iranian catamaran was hit by a missile launched from a drone and headed for repairs. Tehran was heavily bombed today in a day that, according to Iranian authorities, 900 civilians were killed. Iran also reported downing another drone, this time a Heron. However, an F-35I shot down a YAK-130, with both pilots ejecting safely. Facing these recent losses, Iran decided to deploy two jet-powered drones: the Arash-2 and the Hadid-110. Both are stealth drones that reach more than 450 km/h, with the Hadid exceeding 500 km/h. The targets of these drones were more high-cost radars existing in the region, with the Arash-2 in this version achieving hundreds of kilometers in range. Iran maintains an average of 300–500 drones launched per day. While these numbers have been decreasing, the drone models seem to have greater explosive payload and to be more modern. Despite all the surveillance and attacks that the US and Israel carry out, there is a limit to the ability to inhibit Iranian capabilities due to various tactical, geographical, and armament diversity factors. Today Iran is still launching hundreds of drones and between 30–50 missiles, a level that should stabilize or stay slightly below that. However, the big issue that will not be resolved is the reopening of Hormuz and relief for the markets. Iran still possesses around 5,000 mines, which if dumped in Hormuz will seal the closure for long periods. As I have been saying, it is not the capacity for destruction that dictates the rules in this type of war, but the asymmetric nuances of the theater, giving Iran the advantage. For example, if Iran starts mining the Strait tomorrow, oil prices should exceed $100 and gas $70/MWh. This control of the Strait will not be taken from Iran anytime soon, since the American navy still remains 700 km from the Iranian coast out of fear of anti-ship missiles. I even have the impression that Iran does not want to sink any American ship, as this would cause outrage in America and could escalate the war, even increasing support for the government. I say this because the American fleet is within range of Iranian anti-ship missiles even at 750 km. The true enemy of the US-Israel coalition today is not Iran, but the global economy and the political pressure both internal and from the Gulf countries.
