Spent a long weekend with a group of folks... in the mountains of Switzerland. All top people in their fields: a senior position in investment banking, CFO of a bank, serial acquirers, PE investors, etc. Some of the obvious observations: 1. Everyone’s busy, grinding, working hard to get things done, to take care of their family. 2. Almost all guys work long hours, be it Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; most folks had their phones on, getting some work done at any given time. 3. GPT-5.5 is MUCH more reliable on longer running tasks... - for the first time with any model. As we speak I have a migration running for over 7+ hours - this literally never happened before, the models would maybe run for 30 mins or of you really shout at them for 2-3 hours. Last night I went to sleep, set a long running task, then queued up 10 prompts to 'keep it going'. It did not stop after the first prompt and kept going for 8+ hours and I woke up to all the same prompts still queued up. The ability to run for a long time, in combination with ability to validate with computer use & other tools, makes it much more useful for building real applications.show more

As ferry pilots, we often fly 20-25 hours across... long distances and frequently need to service the engine oil enroute. Especially so with the more tired engines. Turbine oil comes in cans, and since we have to go through security to get to a job, we don’t have tools. Fortunately the on-board crash axe is the PERFECT tool for the job. Attempt to get to Canada, part 2. After more... than 13 hours stuck in Edinburgh airport and a plane that was clearly unfit to fly, we are waiting to take off for Montreal. Yesterday was like a comedy of errors. Why did Air Canada put us anywhere near that plane? In over 20 years of flying, I’ve rarely been more concerned about taking off in a plane. Worst of all, was the lack of info for passengers, many of whom had had the same flight cancelled the day before. No water offered in the plane for well over an hour -despite the searing temperatures. Numerous elderly folk were suffering in the heat. Several passengers were still waiting for their luggage past 9pm last night. Nobody had a clue what was going on. Many people had had no food since before 0900. Absolute shambles.
