Sometimes the unexpected tosses are the most rewarding. Yes, he was scared—and learning to respond through that fear is exactly what we’re training for. In a real emergency, children don’t get a countdown. They have to rely on the skills they’ve built through practice. This was his first unexpected toss, and I couldn’t be more proud of his response. He cried for a moment, then calmed himself down, closed his mouth, and began responding to the skills we practice every class. That’s the kind of emotional control we’re working to build. And yes, he did swallow some water—and that happens. The important part is that he wasn’t continuously swallowing water. He regained control, closed his mouth, and responded. That’s exactly what practice is for. With continued practice, his response will become faster, calmer, and more automatic. Afterward, we celebrated with two high fives and took a moment to talk about what he had just accomplished so he understood how capable he truly is. Progress isn’t about never being scared. It’s about learning how to respond despite the fear.

Similar to inside a classroom where you can bring the teacher of the year to your child’s classroom and if they don’t focus and pay attention, learning does not take place. So it’s not always the case of good or bad coaching it’s often the case a child’s lack of ability to learn by not focusing on what is being taught. This is especially true for the youngest ages. This video is an example of a 5yr old child focusing their attention, trying to control an object with their feet, the ball. This becomes a mental task, married together with the action of movement, making it a physical task as well. The brain loves to learn while moving. Combining, mind and body, thinking and feeling, this allows the cerebellum, the seat of the unconscious mind, to create a chemical signature of this experience, which is emotions. Emotions are the on off switch for learning. Couple in a parent being present, this becomes a shared experience together, where the child is constantly seeking the parents approval, attention, and praise which creates a chemical electrical process in the body which is emotions. This facilitates, deep learning, and long-term memory, all disguised as playtime. A parent just being present allows for this experience to take place. A child this young rarely starts playing or exercising with a ball without someone being present. Being present and sharing this experience together is key for the learning process to take place. These movements are being stored in the non-declared memory which makes this implicit learning when you do something so many times it becomes natural and outside your conscious awareness. Like riding a bicycle or driving a car.

Synchronize Dual Hands for Physics-Based Dexterous Guitar Playing discuss: We present a novel approach to synthesize dexterous motions for physically simulated hands in tasks that require coordination between the control of two hands with high temporal precision. Instead of directly learning a joint policy to control two hands, our approach performs bimanual control through cooperative learning where each hand is treated as an individual agent. The individual policies for each hand are first trained separately, and then synchronized through latent space manipulation in a centralized environment to serve as a joint policy for two-hand control. By doing so, we avoid directly performing policy learning in the joint state-action space of two hands with higher dimensions, greatly improving the overall training efficiency. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in the challenging guitar-playing task. The virtual guitarist trained by our approach can synthesize motions from unstructured reference data of general guitar-playing practice motions, and accurately play diverse rhythms with complex chord pressing and string picking patterns based on the input guitar tabs that do not exist in the references. Along with this paper, we provide the motion capture data that we collected as the reference for policy training.
