I know that Dust devils occur on the microscale in meteorology, however, every single "biggest of the big" Dust devils that I have witnessed were spinning cycloncially. Maybe something going on with a larger scale thermal process in Eastern WA when conditions are favorable? Smaller dust devils are a coin flip.

Check out this dust devil that hit off Mt. Eden road today in Shelbyville, KY. Notice the play area up top! The family is very grateful the kids weren’t using the play area when it hit. This is one of the stronger dust devils I have seen in a bit!

Earth has an atmosphere which counter-acts gravity. That's why sand dust, which is made up of very tiny particles, hangs in the air for minutes after a vehicle drives on a dirt road. The moon has no atmosphere, so the dust kicked up by the lunar rover settles almost instantaneously. This video could not have been done with CGI in the 1970's. Even with today's technology, this would be hard to film in a studio. Unless the whole studio was in a vacuum chamber.
