Pull-Ups vs. Lat Pull-Down: For muscle growth in the Lats, give me a well-built Lat Pull-Down over a Pull-Up Bar any day of the week There are 2 key reasons for this: 1) Greater stability….obviously this has become a bit of a meme but it does matter for hypertrophy 2) The Lat Pull-Down setup will afford you the ability to manipulate body position to better bias the Lats FWIW, I don’t think the gap in terms of effect size/outcome is all that large here but I do think it exists

❓if you’re holding a fan’s hand and they trip and accidentally pull down your pants while falling, would you help up the fan first or pull up your pants first? 🐧 definitely the fan. the members pull down my pants a lot so i’m just really used to it now 🧸 i have great reflexes so if they were to pull down my pants…the moment they grab it, i’d go 🏋️…if i do that right away, they won’t go down so i’d do that (and help them up) 🧸 i absolutely never want my pants to be pulled down by someone’s hands that aren’t mine. i won’t let that happen ✋ 👤 wow…so cool…

You don’t see these old school t-bars in use as much anymore. But they’re a legit mass builder for the entire back. If you can find one of these older models with the semi-supinated grip it’s just killer on the lats. There is no other rowing exercise that hits my lats harder than this one.

Great stretch for people who sit at desks. It's called the Double band lat stretch. Loop 2 resistance bands (or towels) over a pull-up bar or fixed anchor above shoulder height. Grab both ends, hinge forward, and let your arms extend straight out in front of you. From here, slowly rotate side to side, feeling the stretch deepen through your lats and hips with each turn. Do this for 30 seconds to 60 seconds total. Your lats get chronically tight from sitting, and tight lats pull your shoulders forward, creating that rounded hunchback posture. This stretch opens them up and releases your hips at the same time. Do it daily and your body will thank you.

This man finds it extremely aggravating when you are in a left hand turn lane and the car in front stops at the white line. He says you pull into the middle of the intersection and take control of the intersection and wait there. If oncoming traffic doesn’t let up, you turn as the light is about to turn red and oncoming traffic stops. Many said that defensive driving classes tell you to stay behind the white line until you can make a turn and have a safe exit and this causes accidents. He says that any CDL class will tell you to take control of the intersection and pull up to the middle of it, that way everyone isn’t waiting three rotations to get through the light. What do you do? How do you drive? Do you stay behind the white line or do you pull into the intersection?

People always ask me how I’m so good at pull ups given I’m 280+ pounds. My simple answer is bc I started treating them and training them just like my barbell strength exercises. Here are 3 variations to improve muscle density and strength The key IMO got real density should start at training muscles at end range. There are 3 approaches that I use and that I program for others. First, you’ll see a traditional rep. The important thing is the rep is using full range of motion. The traditional rep allows me to utilize the stretch shortening cycle to improve my elastic strength. Next, you’ll see me using Deadhang Pull Ups. Think of this like a paused rep on bench or squat. You are eliminating the stretch shortening cycle and improving rate of force development WHILE your feet are suspended and the lats are fully loaded and have tension. This is a key distinction from the 3rd approach Power Pull Up. This is the same idea the I use on the Power Row, or some may be more familiar with the Pendlay Row. The difference you will see is I’m standing on a pad. This allows me to pause at the bottom BUT my lats are lengthened but UNLOADED. There’s no weight or tension when I start and initiate my pull up. You’ll even see I remove my fingers completely got each rep Using the all together in an intelligent program that organizes stress and variation appropriately is the key to maxing your pull up potential.

Sooooo I just saw all the workout critics 🤡 on my butterfly pull-ups. Butterfly pull-ups are done in CrossFit workouts and should not be done unless you have good shoulder mobility and can complete at least 5 strict pull ups without fatigue. I also train strict pull ups during other training sessions. Always make sure you go down all the way to straighten your arms before pulling up again. And chin over the bar at the top. But more importantly I encourage everyone no matter how old you are or what level fitness you are at, always try to train and exercise to stay strong and healthy so you can live your best life and be the best version of you. Don’t sit on the couch and be a hater. We have enough of that!
