November was a busy month across Terran R test campaigns. 🛢️ Second stage tank successfully completed acceptance testing with 30+ load cases, including pressure proofing and flight-load simulations. 💨 Transonic and supersonic wind tunnel testing wrapped with 100+ runs of the first stage entry configuration. 🔥 Aeon V dev engine test campaign completed; Aeon R flight engine acceptance testing progressing at NASA Stennis. 🌡️ Hot gas testing executed on the stage press valve to validate performance under extreme thermal transients.

With rocket engines, boring is good. To that end, please enjoy this 1,030-second (17+ min!) BE-7 engine burn. This test represents the Apogee Raise Maneuver or ARM burn for our Blue Moon Mark 1 Lunar lander, plus margin, the longest burn required by the mission to reach the Moon. You may have noticed that the engine for this test does not have a nozzle. BE‑7 is tested in both vacuum and atmospheric conditions. This test was at GEEx—our atmospheric test position in West Texas.

This endurance test verifies that the engine can perform beyond the nominal flight duration, meaning this engine is one step closer to being ready for flight. The AVac (Archimedes Vacuum) engine produces 1.2x lbf of its Stage 1 variant and stands ~2.5m taller thanks to its extended nozzle optimized for the vacuum conditions of space. Recent AVac testing included a stub skirt for the nozzle. Since full length vacuum nozzles at ground level risk flow separation and instability, stub skirts are used to anchor our engineers' analysis for how the engine will perform with the full nozzle in vacuum conditions - all critical preparation for Neutron's first flight.

From avionic builds to expanding of our machine shop capabilities and more. 🔥In prop, teams completed assembly of the second Aeon R engine for first flight and reduced average cycle times across key engine components by 50%. 💻The avionics team is building the flight hub box, which will serve as Terran R’s central node for routing data and distributing power to critical systems. 🚀Welding of the first stage tank is progressing with 3 circumferential friction stir welds now complete.

History has been made by Stratolaunch, a hypersonic flight test research company headquartered in Mojave, California. The fully autonomous Talon-A2, equipped with landing gear, has successfully exceeded speeds of Mach five and completed its second autonomous landing at Vandenburg Space Force Base. This mission documentary follows the first recovered flight of TA-2, the result of five years of effort and dedication marking a pivotal moment in sustainable hypersonic flight test for our country.
