Imagine worrying about quantum computing hacking your BTC when literally every other business & institution will be vulnerable before BTC.

I had my suspicions before, but this is confirmation that @nic_carter is a fucking idiot. If all that Bitcoin was seized by the government, it would become worthless immediately. We’re all going to ask for our BTC back? 😂 On top of that, they can’t do it anyway anytime soon.

So your going to go after bitcoin first? What about the banks and every other financial instrument which has less protection? 🤣 it’s just a load of propaganda because they see bitcoin will break the evil fiat system.

A quantum computer cannot break and take your bitcoin if the address it’s stored in has never sent bitcoin before.

Why would the same government who helped create Bitcoin [via the United States military], turn around and break it @nic_carter? Or do you still fail to grasp that Bitcoin’s true value isn't its monetary system, but its broad utility for national security—using thermodynamic hashing as a data anchor to safeguard sovereignty and vital infrastructure in an era of superabundance?

Wow that's dumb. Not all bitcoin wallets even have their public keys exposed, and only those could ever be targeted by a QC, assuming it's even possible. @grok how much bitcoin is vulnerable to quantum in theory, i.e. how many wallets have their public keys exposed and how much of the outstanding supply is that in terms of percentage?

Bitcoin Rails x MARA Foundation presents: THE POLITICS OF POST-QUANTUM BITCOIN | with Nic Carter 🔗 YouTube: 🌿Spotify: Less than nine months ago, investor and researcher nic carter sparked one of the most heated debates in Bitcoin's recent history — when he published a series of essays arguing that the network should prepare for its post-quantum transition sooner rather than later. While the essays broadly persuaded investors and institutions, many of Bitcoin's technical leaders dismissed them as alarmist — that is, until Google's quantum resource estimates were updated just a few months later. Crediting Google's paper with "shifting the Overton Window" on quantum and strengthening the case for post-quantum preparation, Nic shares his thoughts on the delicate politics surrounding this transition — and how he believes a quantum attack and response could potentially play out in practice. In more detail, this special episode of Bitcoin Rails X MARA Foundation TV covers: - How a quantum attack could realistically unfold + the different ways stakeholder groups might respond - The constitutional tensions surfaced by quantum vulnerable coins and how incentives will ultimately dictate outcomes - How a state actor could facilitate "benevolent" quantum recovery and eliminate the need for a contentious fork - The role and influence of institutional investors as key players in quantum outcomes - How Bitcoin's post-quantum transition could permanently reshape Bitcoin’s governance structures ...or build them from the ground up TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 — Intro 00:18 — Nick's path from Fidelity to founding Castle Island 07:00 — How quantum went from FUD to Nick's biggest concern 12:45 — Why Core devs refuse to be accountable 26:09 — Investors vs developers: who took quantum seriously first 32:33 — Bitcoin's "pre-constitutional" governance problem 39:18 — Satoshi's coins: liquidate, burn, slow-bleed, or let the government take them 47:36 — Why there will never be another Bitcoin fork war 01:01:35 — Bitcoin is about to choose the wrong signature scheme 01:09:42 — The actual deadline: why PQ signatures need to ship in 2026 01:13:09 — The happy path, the coup, and why Bitcoin won't die

QUANTUM COMPUTING COULD UNLEASH THE MOST POWERFUL AI EVER BUILT. BUT WHO REALLY CONTROLS IT? The Pentagon has invested more than $150 million in quantum computing, a technology most Americans have never used, but one that could reshape artificial intelligence, drug discovery, encryption, national security, and surveillance. Quantum computers use qubits instead of ordinary binary bits. Unlike traditional bits, which are either a one or a zero, qubits can represent multiple possibilities at once. That gives quantum systems the potential to solve certain complex calculations beyond the reach of today’s computers. President Trump signed two executive orders this year to accelerate quantum development and prepare U.S. systems for quantum-era cyber threats. IBM is also working toward a machine with at least 1,000 programmable qubits, a major step toward more powerful quantum systems. The potential is enormous. Paired with AI, quantum computing could help researchers model disease, study pollution, test new materials, and examine massive problems faster than ever. But the risks are enormous too. The same technology could expand surveillance, undermine encryption, and give those who control it unprecedented power to predict and influence human behavior. The question is not just what quantum-powered AI can do. It is who controls it, and whether the public will have any protection from it. Austin Steinbart (Austin Steinbart) joins me to break down quantum computing, AI, surveillance, and what this technology could mean for society.
