This is a lack of understanding of the issue on his part. The study he references only looked at microplastics (generally >1um in size). The vast majority of what is in water is NANOplastic particles between 50nm and 500nm. When you look for these size particles you find hundreds of thousands per liter in plastic. @bryan_johnson simply hasn't read the literature.

Testing is essential. That said, most glass water bottles have an aluminum lid. My guess is that most glass bottles have less chemical residue and micro-plastic than plastic water bottles, but with so many manufacturers, it is possible to find examples where this is not true.

@bryan_johnson have you done your own testing in the united states, or are you quoting the study that was done in france ? the study showed a simple rinse procedure prior to capping would eliminate the issue.

The study I think he’s referencing was a French one and a huge issue was their microplastic size detection threshold. The most dangerous particles are those that qualify as “nano particles” and the tech they used couldn’t even detect them—only the larger particles. So they were essentially giving an “advantage” to the glass bottles in that their collection methods were biased towards particles that were more likely to appear in them, while totally ignoring the most potentially harmful nano particles that have been shown in other studies to exist in plastic water bottles in the billions. In other words, the results of their study don’t…hold water.

The study he is quoting is incredibly misleading. The micro plastics they were looking for were pretty large. They didn’t test for anything that is small enough to get into your bloodstream or organs only large particles that would be quickly excreted

There are three studies all showing more microplastic from glass bottles, the first two from 2018 so this is not new. No risk as they are non-toxic. Lifetime ingestion is &lt;0.01g and the safe amount to eat is a coffee cup a day based on long-term animal testing (NOAEL).
