NAVIAI-I3, a more robust humanoid robot, was launched by the Zhejiang Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center. Standing 1.8 meters tall, it can run like a human and walk on various terrains. This humanoid robot appears to be primarily designed for specialized industrial tasks, such as security patrols in underground parking lots. They previously launched the lightweight bipedal NVAI-2 and a wheeled humanoid robot. The bipedal robot is used in manufacturing operations, while the wheeled humanoid robot is used for unstructured, flexible tasks such as warehouse sorting, supermarket shelving, and office cleaning. Brain-controlled exoskeletons to train humanoid robots! 🧠 Fourier just presented human tele-operators using brain control interfaces and exoskeletal arms to train humanoid robots on home tasks. The brain control interface is the interesting part. Instead of using a controller or joystick to teleoperate, the operator's movements and intentions are captured more naturally through the exoskeleton and BCI. This means the demonstrations are more fluid, more human-like, and better suited for training robots to perform delicate home tasks. Multiple tele-operators are simultaneously generating training data across multiple robots. This is how you build the dataset needed for eventual full autonomy, without waiting years for it to arrive. This might be the bridge between "robots that work in controlled environments" and "robots that work in homes." Yesterday, I passed by a subway entrance in Guangzhou and experienced a retail kiosk operated by a humanoid robot again, buying a bottle of water. The process was the same: select items on a screen, scan a QR code for mobile payment, and the humanoid robot retrieves the product. (However, it didn't interact with me at all.) I looked it up, and the wheeled humanoid robot is named S1, from AutoLife Robotics in Shenzhen. It uses omnidirectional wheels for movement and a lifting body. It's 1-1.6m tall, weighs 72kg, and has a 10-hour battery life. A single arm can carry 3-5kg. Furthermore, this humanoid robot is suitable for lightweight tasks in retail, convenience stores, supermarkets, and warehouse sorting.

Zerith Robotics, a startup from Hefei, has deployed multiple Zerith H1 robots in shopping malls, office buildings, and supermarkets in cities like Hefei Airport, Hefei Gas Building, and Shenzhen MixC, acting as cleaners and sales assistants. The Zerith H1 can autonomously perform cleaning tasks such as cleaning toilets, mopping floors, and wiping sinks. In supermarkets, it carries a shopping basket, autonomously picks up snacks, and automatically processes orders. From experimentation to trial use and real-world deployment, Zerith has built it into a commercial humanoid robot service solution, already used in over 20 landmark locations, and plans to expand to more cities like Hangzhou and Shanghai. From a commercial service reliability perspective, wheeled humanoid robots are being prioritized by customers. It is worth mentioning that Zerith was officially established in January of this year by a young team from the Tsinghua AI Robotics Laboratory. Within the next 5 years, hundreds of humanoid robots will be deployed in Schaeffler's global factories, with beta versions first implemented in 2026–2027. Schaeffler is also becoming the preferred supplier of joint actuators for the humanoid wheeled platform and is jointly exploring next-generation actuator architectures with its partner. More importantly, the two companies will collaborate deeply on data and skills: continuously accumulating real-world manufacturing data through teleoperation, synthetic data, and peripheral data acquisition robots to train AI models, enabling humanoid robots to learn faster and perform more reliably in the factory.

I discuss some pivotal questions with jimmah in my effort to gain insight and clarity: - How do you evaluate Tesla's (and other companies') progress with humanoid robots? - Who will be the winner? Or will there be multiple big winners? - How long will it take until we see millions of humanoid robots produced annually? - What's harder for humanoid robots - the hardware of software? - How can we track progress across humanoid robot companies? - What's the next big milestones or demonstrations Tesla can show?
