Concerns around E20 fuel quality are understandable, especially because ethanol may look different from petrol. But visual appearance is not a measure of fuel quality. By strengthening standards, testing and oversight, the government is addressing genuine consumer concerns with evidence. Viral claims may continue, but consistent quality controls can... show more

Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has strongly defended E20 petrol, challenging critics to produce evidence of a single petrol vehicle corroded because of ethanol. "I challenge anyone to show me a single petrol vehicle that has been corroded because of ethanol. Please send a copy of the complaint to both the dealer and me," Gadkari said, responding to concerns around E20 fuel compatibility. Without addressing people's concerns regarding E20, the government has now announced E100, which means 100% ethanol and no petrol. In this video, we explain the key concerns regarding blended fuel that the government seems to be ignoring in its push for rapid ethanol adoption.

Old fuel-related videos are being recycled to create panic around E20 petrol. Facts matter. India’s Ethanol Blending Programme has saved over ₹1.90 lakh crore in foreign exchange and helped reduce nearly 930 lakh metric tonnes of carbon emissions. Many viral clips being linked to E20 are from before the nationwide rollout and show older, unrelated fuel-quality issues. Ask questions. Demand clarity. But don’t let recycled videos and half-truths mislead the public on a major energy-security reform.

A bike mechanic from Bengaluru debunks the myths about E20 petrol. He says, 1. Don’t spread false information about E20 petrol. 2. E20 fuel may affect some rubber components over time. 3. But claims that E20 will rust the engine, crankshaft, bearings, or throttle body are misleading. 4. Fuel goes through the fuel injector into the engine, while the engine’s internal parts are lubricated by engine oil. 5. So, E20 fuel does not simply cause the engine’s internal parts to rust. He says people should provide accurate technical information instead of making sensational reels just to go viral.

The quality of petrol in Russia is falling below any reasonable standard. The Kremlin government has allowed the production of Euro 2-standard petrol. Given the realities of quality control in Russia, fuel that actually meets genuine Euro 2 standards has now become something of a dream for motorists. Petrol is also being imported from India, and its quality is unlikely to be subject to much regulation either. Across Russia, motorists are reporting engine problems on a massive scale, while seeing the check-engine light come on after refuelling has practically become the norm.

E20 fuel is often associated with concerns over reduced mileage. However, available studies and testing indicate that for E20-compatible vehicles, the impact on fuel efficiency is generally limited. Experts note that factors such as tyre pressure, traffic conditions, driving habits and vehicle maintenance typically have a greater influence on overall mileage than the switch to E20 fuel. Watch the video for a fact-based look at the claims and the evidence around E20. Beware! Don't fall for Rumours ⚠️

E20 Petrol Has a Bigger Problem Than Ethanol Customers may not even be getting the expected 80% petrol if existing storage tanks aren’t fully E20-compatible. If the government and petrol pump associations are aware of these infrastructure gaps, they need to be addressed urgently. Fix the infrastructure first. Then mandate the fuel. India is increasing ethanol blending in petrol from 20% to 30%. But what exactly does that mean for your car, fuel bills, and the environment? In this video, we break down what ethanol blending actually is, why governments across the world promote it, and how India’s E30 push could affect everyday drivers. While higher ethanol blends may help reduce oil imports, support farmers, and lower certain emissions, they could also lead to lower mileage, more frequent refuelling, and potential compatibility issues for older vehicles. The video also looks at the environmental concerns around large-scale ethanol production, including water usage and pressure on agricultural land. Note: In its May 15 notice, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) established standards for E22, E25, E27, and E30 fuel blends. However, the Government of India has not yet announced a nationwide commercial rollout timeline or mandated E30 petrol at retail fuel stations. Keep watching DeKoder for more such explainers. #EthanolBlending #E30 #Petrol #India #FuelPrices #Cars #Climate #Biofuel #Explained #DeKoder

K5 grade diesel is a Euro 5-equivalent fuel standard used in Russia and other CIS countries, with sulfur content limited to no more than 10 parts per million. The distinctive blue-green coloring is added as a visual identification marker, allowing inspectors to quickly recognize the fuel grade without immediately relying on laboratory testing. Officials can take fuel samples and compare the color against known standards, helping detect potential fuel substitution, mixing, or quality issues throughout the distribution network. It's a simple example of how color coding and engineering standards can work together to make fuel quality control faster and easier.

VIDEO | Delhi: Addressing a press conference, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, says, "At today's town hall, people put forward three demands. First, consumers should have a choice at petrol pumps... those who want E20 fuel should be able to buy E20, while those who prefer pure petrol should have the option to purchase pure petrol. Second, the price of E20 fuel should be lower than that of pure petrol. Third, with global crude oil prices having declined, the retail price of petrol should be reduced to below Rs 84 per litre. If ethanol is not beneficial from any perspective, why is it being promoted? People are facing difficulties because of ethanol. It is more expensive than petrol, delivers lower mileage, does not benefit farmers, and does not save foreign exchange. Moreover, in areas surrounding ethanol production plants, groundwater reportedly becomes polluted. So why is the central government pushing ethanol across the country by presenting misleading figures and against the wishes of the people? Why is it forcing it upon citizens? What is the Modi government's compulsion or hidden agenda? After examining the issue, it is being done under pressure from America." #E20 #Ethanol #ArvindKejriwal (Full video available on PTI Videos -

Russian cities of Smolensk and Sochi now also experience fuel-supply disruptions and queues at petrol stations. The situation is still far from the peak of Russia’s fuel crisis around six weeks ago, but local shortages are beginning to reappear across different regions. This comes despite Moscow’s plans to import up to 400,000 tonnes of petrol per month. Russia has also relaxed fuel-quality requirements, temporarily allowing the production, import and sale of older Euro-2, Euro-3 and Euro-4 standard petrol.

People had barely adjusted to E20 fuel, and now KG5 is already being pushed—with just a ₹20 price difference. The government says ethanol blending doesn’t harm engines and claims extensive testing backs it up. But when asked for details of those tests, the information is reportedly “confidential.” Meanwhile, vehicle owners continue to raise concerns about mileage, performance, and long-term engine health. Comparing India to Brazil ignores one key fact: Brazil’s vehicle ecosystem is built for higher ethanol blends. At this rate, it feels like every fuel is becoming an ethanol experiment. Stay alert. And maybe keep a glass of sugarcane juice handy—it might be the only thing not being blended yet. 🌾😄

Russians have recently been complaining en masse about poor-quality diesel fuel and equipment breakdowns. Diesel fuel is being diluted and quality standards are not being met. Diesel fuel standards in Russia and the United States are not identical. Russian diesel is not certified to meet U.S. standards and is unlikely to undergo certification. If Russian diesel ever makes its way to the United States, good luck to anyone who puts it in their vehicles.

Yesterday, Kejriwal claimed citing mechanics that E20 petrol damages engines and fuel injectors. Here's what an actual mechanic says: E20 does not damage the engine or fuel injectors. Research also says same that at most, in older vehicles that are not E20-compatible, it may accelerate the deterioration of older rubber hoses, seals, or some plastic fuel system components if they are made from materials that are not ethanol-resistant. That's it, rest all are rumours E20 does not damage the engine or injectors.
