Anyone else hit their upper back & rear delts like this? Seat low, elbows high. Focus on squeezing the upper back.

Face pulls might actually be my favorite lift right now. Everyone thinks they’re some boring shoulder health exercise but they absolutely blow up your rear delts, traps and upper back. Basically just makes you look huge too What’s your favorite lift?

A wide grip upright row is one of the more useful but misunderstood exercises people do (or don’t do). It’s not a trap exercise (although some traps are involved for sure). It’s a side delt exercise. Don’t think about pulling the bar up with your hands. Think about driving the elbows out and up. It’s a lateral raise, but holding a bar…. My clients often get confused when I explain it that way. But if you can disassociate from “pulling up” and associate with driving elbows out and up you’ll engage and feel exactly where it’s supposed to hit. Elbows should finish a few inches above the delts. Notice I’m using straps? It’s not because I NEED them. My grip isn’t going to fail on these with 50 lbs. I’m using straps so that I can relax the hands and forearms and only think about my elbows. It helps. I like these for higher reps although you can absolutely go heavier on them which is one advantage of these over lateral raises.

Wide-grip Upright Rows for the side delts. I see this movement bastardized on here all the time by curling the forearms up, bringing the brachioradialis into it and taking tension away from the delts. Keep the forearms and wrists pointing down throughout the entire ROM, and drive the elbows up as if you’re trying to hit someone under the chin with your elbow. Also, dead stop at the bottom of every rep. Make the side delts do the lifting, not the forearms, arm flexors and traps.

I’ll be telling people all 2026… This exercise should be a STAPLE of your Back training if you do not have access to a well-built Chest Supported Machine Row Amazing for building the Lats, Traps, Rear Delts, etc Bonus: You can literally do these in any gym in the ENTIRE WORLD

You want those rear delts? Before you move to face-pulls or reverse cable flies, get strong at Bent-Over Lateral Raises. Isolate them using (relatively) heavy dumbbells. Legendary John Meadows used this exercise in his shoulder routine for years and with hundreds of clients—with great success. But today, experts say it doesn’t work… I did nothing else for rear delts for the first 10 years of bodybuiding. You can also do it lying on an incline bench.

Single arm movements for lats. Heavy rows and pulls for rear delts and traps. Because I powerlifted for so long, I always only did heavy pulls and rows. Completely neglecting the feel and connection to the lat. That’s why I spam the single arm cable pulls now and love it.

Your Posture Needs Work‼️ These 5 resistance-band exercises target the muscles that help keep your shoulders and shoulder blades organized: • Rhomboids + mid/lower traps • Rear delts • Lats • Scapular stabilizers • Upper-back endurance ✔️ Targets The Rhomboids & Mid/Lower Traps To Help Pull Your Shoulders Back ✔️ Strengthens The Rear Delts To Build Better Balance Around The Shoulder Joint ✔️ Activates The Lats & Improves Your Pulling Strength Without Heavy Weights ✔️ Trains The Smaller Stabilizing Muscles That Control Your Shoulder Blades ✔️ Builds Upper-Back Endurance To Help You Maintain Better Posture Throughout The Day Hours of sitting, driving, and looking down at your phone can leave your chest feeling tight while your upper back does less work than it should. That’s where these movements come in. The goal isn't to force your shoulders backward all day. It’s to build a back strong enough to support better positioning without constant effort. Keep the reps slow. Control the band. Let the back—not the arms—do the work. You don't need massive weights. You need tension, control, and consistency.
