Do you need to train heavy to build muscle? 💪 For years the mantra was you need to go heavy to build muscle. Or you needed to go heavy to stimulate large type II fast twitch fibers but go light for more reps to stimulate smaller type I fibers. But new research has challenged that dogma. Several meta-analysis have shown similar muscle growth with low loads vs high loads when set number is matched & proximity to failure is similar (PMIDs: 28834797, 35015560, 33312275, & 33433148). While muscle hypertrophy was not different between high and low load training, strength increased significantly more with high load training in all these meta-analysis As far as targeting fiber types, it becomes kind of irrelevant when you take an exercise close to failure because fiber types tend to be recruited in order from smallest to largest. So with high load training, small & large fibers get recruited quickly but you don’t do many reps. With low load training, you initially recruit smaller fibers but as the muscle fatigues it is forced to recruit the larger fibers as the exercise is taken close to failure. The net effect is that taking sets close to failure with high or low loads produces a lot of muscle activation and similar hypetrophy The take home is, do what you enjoy if muscle growth is the goal. Just make sure you train HARD & go close to failure (within a few reps) & do enough total sets. But if strength is a priority you’ll need to train heavy & be careful going to failure as it can impair strength gains From my first conversation with Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.

There are multiple factors at play that will influence where Erin goes. One is over western Canada! The main uncertainty is the shape, and strength, of the Bermuda High — a large high pressure system sprawled from the Azores to near Bermuda. It dominates the Atlantic, and acts as a force field of sorts that blocks hurricanes. It’s what’s suppressing Erin south right now. In the coming days, Erin will probably arc around the western side of the Bermuda high as it curves north. That’s why the shape and strength of the Bermuda High are so important. A stronger/farther west Bermuda High would potentially shunt Erin west-southwest, bringing it closer to the Bahamas and perhaps southeastern U.S. A weaker Bermuda High would allow Erin an out-to-sea “escape route” earlier, sparing most of North America any impacts. Either way, Bermuda and the Canadian Maritimes are at the greatest risk of impacts. The shape of the Bermuda High will be influenced by two “upper-level lows,” or pockets of cold air, low pressure and spin at high altitudes. Those two disturbances will roll across North America and work to erode the western side of the Bermuda High. One will arrive Friday, and the other on Tuesday. The latter is currently located over Yukon, Canada. Because it had previously been over the Gulf of Alaska, meteorologists didn’t have the ability to release weather balloons into it. Now that it’s moving over land, more weather balloons will “sample” its structure. That data will be pumped into weather models, helping to improve simulations. Subsequently, we’ll have a much better idea of how the upper-air weather pattern over North America — and the shape of the Bermuda High and eventual track of Erin — by probably Wednesday afternoon.

General "Raizin" Caine, details the precision extraction mission in Venezuela: "Over the course of the night, aircraft began launching from 20 different bases on land and sea across the Western Hemisphere. In total, more than 150 aircraft, bombers, fighters, intelligence, reconnaissance, surveillance, rotary wing, were in the air last night. "Our youngest crew member was 20 and our oldest crew member was 49. And there's simply no match for American military might. As the night began, the helicopters took off with the extraction force, which included law enforcement officers, and began their flight into Venezuela at 100 feet above the water. As they approached Venezuelan shores, the United States began layering different effects provided by SPACECOM, CYBERCOM, and other members of the inter-agency to create a pathway. "Overhead, those forces were protected from aircraft- were protected by aircraft from the United States Marines, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, and the Air National Guard. The force included F-22s, F-35s, F-18s, EA-18s, E-2s, B-1 bombers, and other support aircraft, as well as numerous remotely piloted drones. As the force began to approach Caracas, the joint air component began dismantling and disabling the air defense systems in Venezuela, employing weapons to ensure the safe passage of the helicopters into the target area. "The goal of our air component is, was, and always will be to protect the helicopters and the ground force, and get them to the target, and get them home. As the force crossed the last point of high terrain where they'd been hiding in the clutter, we assessed that we had maintained totally the element of surprise. As the helicopter force ingressed towards the objective at low level, we arrived at Maduro's compound at 1:01 AM Eastern Standard Time, or 2:01 AM Caracas local time, and the apprehension force descended into Maduro's compound and moved with speed, precision, and discipline towards their objective, and isolated the area to ensure the safety and security of the ground force while apprehending the indicted persons. "On arrival into the target area, the helicopters came under fire and they replied with that fire with overwhelming force in self-defense. One of our aircraft was hit, but remained flyable, and as the President said earlier today, all of our aircraft came home. And that aircraft remained flyable during the rest of the mission. As the operation unfolded at the compound, our air and ground intelligence teams provided real-time updates to the ground force, ensuring those forces could safely navigate the complex environment without unnecessary risk. "The force remained protected by overhead tactical aviation. Maduro and his wife, both indicted, gave up and were taken into custody by the Department of Justice, assisted by our incredible US military with professionalism and precision, with, with no loss of US life. After securing the indicted persons, the force began to prep for departure."

Strange Tests – Firing at a T-64B Tank from "Hyacinth" Almost Point-Blank.Comendante wondered, "Will the Ukrainian T-64 tank withstand a point-blank shot from the 152mm Hyacinth?" It's worth clarifying here that the hull design, including the VLD on the T-64 (T-64B = 30+80+105+20), is similar to that of the T-72.1st shot – tank displacement from the impact impulse, destruction of part of the plate welded to the VLD, damage from barrel fragments and destruction of the weld seam of the support (the lower 20mm part of the VLD), destruction of the turret ring. 2nd shot – shot at the joint between the turret and hull over the driver's hatch – breach of the hull roof.Further shooting 4 more times at the turret, glacis, and gun. What can be said here? – For a design developed in 1961 without requirements to withstand hits from a 152mm OFS from "Hyacinth," it's actually not bad.The breach of the front part of the hull roof upon explosion of an OF projectile is well-known, see - problem with the stability of the MV hatch on the T-64(A) when hit over the MV hatch is also known - raises another question – why haven't these issues been improved in 65 years?
