The crash analysis below shows AI3 FSD v12.6.4 biggest safety weakness: late reaction. This video uses official dashcam crash footage synchronized with the vehicle’s official telemetry logs obtained from Tesla and visualized in CamCutApp. The telemetry shows FSD waiting about 0.67 seconds after the lead vehicle’s brake lights illuminate before it begins braking. From the moment the lead vehicle starts braking until Automatic Emergency Braking intervenes is about 1.5 seconds. During that time, the Tesla slows by only 4 mph, from 62 mph to 58 mph. By the time AEB takes over, only 132 feet remain before impact. There simply isn’t enough distance left to avoid the collision. Millions of AI3 vehicles are still running FSD v12.x. Situations like this require the driver to intervene before it becomes obvious that FSD isn’t braking quickly and aggressively enough, and that’s not always easy to judge in real time. Tesla today announced AI3 v14 Lite which includes “significantly improved safety.” When I get a chance to evaluate v14 Lite, this is exactly what I’ll be testing first. In my opinion, it’s the most important and critical improvement the system needs.

This traffic circle has been a long-standing pain point for me on FSD. As you can see, the car consistently drives in the bike lane here. I’ve documented this behavior before on FSD 12, 13, and now 14. The issue appears to stem from outdated map data. This section of the circle used to function as a two-way roadway. At the time, there was no bike lane and vehicles traveled in the space FSD still prefers today. Since the redesign, that area is now a dedicated bike lane, but FSD doesn’t reliably recognize the change. Depending on the version, it will occasionally handle this correctly, but most of the time it does not. This is currently the only issue I consistently experience with FSD. It’s not safety critical. The car will move if a cyclist, vehicle, or object is present, but reliance on outdated map data in locations like this needs to improve.

With FSD V14.3 and after, the car consistently moves into the right lanes 2.5 miles before your highway exit. As you can see below, the moment the car is under 2.5 miles from the exit, it turns on the blinker. I have been able to consistently repeat this. With previous versions of FSD, it would often wait until the last minute. No more anxiety from last second exit merging lol. (video sped up)

Nothing dangerous, but it did leave the outer edge lane and drove outside of it. When putting the blinker to the left it got back to the «normal» road again. Elon Musk

| really love how FSD v14 will not camp in the left lane no matter the selected driver profile. The lane selection with v14.1.7 is chefs kiss. It will pass, then get right back over to the #2 lane. Feels human like. (Standard drive mode displayed here)

Finally caught this low visibility, one-lane covered bridge during a complicated moment. How does FSD handle it? Like a legend. As we approach, FSD yields for the pedestrian and oncoming car. Before proceeding, FSD notices the approaching pickup truck, yields until it is apparent that the truck is going to yield for us, at which point it proceeds through the bridge flawlessly. FSD V14.2 demonstrates awareness of one lane bridge, understands that approaching pickup is a potential obstruction, and waits until it is clear that we can proceed. You can completely forget about this happening on any version pre-14. V14 does an incredible job with context and predicting potential future events. And it does it all so quickly and with such certainty. The intelligence is getting nutty.

Forget UPL, it's the Devin's simple right hand turn that FSD needs to master first. I am blown away that software as good as FSD can make mistakes as simple but devastating as this. This is the second time in less than two weeks that FSD has tried to pull infront of a vehicle on a VERY SIMPLE right hand turn. The car drove pretty much flawlessly all day today (3~ hours of driving) but it ends the day with a move like this and it just takes all the confidence I have with FSD away in a simple move. I understand that the version of FSD we have today is not what will be used in Austin in June, but the fact that FSD is making decisions like this and 'full autonomy' is less than 3 months away - it's a bit concerning to me. It's wild that people post videos of themselves blatantly breaking the law like this. Look, obviously, the idea of being able to do something else, like work, while driving is extremely appealing, but you just can't do it like that. Tesla FSD v14 is extremely impressive, but the best data we have right now points to a critical intervention every ~2,000 miles on average. Human drivers crash about every ~400,000 miles on average. You will hurt yourself, or God forbid, someone else, if you keep doing this, as you won't be able to intervene properly. I know some don't believe because they blindly believe Tesla's claim that "FSD is 10x safer than human drivers", but that's the most misleading claim ever. First off, the data is cherry-picked. I do believe that driving on FSD is safer than driving without, but closer to a factor 3x based on the best, not-Tesla-massaged, data. But more importantly, that's 3x safer than FSD plus human. Not just FSD. It is safer because it is supervised by a human paying attention and correcting the system when needed. If you use it like this guy, you are not safer. Period.

Sentience FSD says “hold my beer” and shoots a 6-inch gap between a pickup and the guardrail to escape a blocked exit lane 😱 At 27 minutes in we’re trying to get over three lanes for the upcoming exit. Traffic slams the door shut, so instead of waiting like a peasant, Mad Max just invents a new lane on the right, threads the needle between a full-size pickup and concrete barrier at 65 mph, and pops out ahead of everyone who closed us out. Zero hesitation, perfect centering, no scrape. On 14.1.7 this would have sat there crying. 14.2 just sent it. Is this the most aggressive exit move FSD has ever pulled, or have you seen worse?
