I learned that you don't actually need to do much to play good golf & hit the golf ball where you want I was swinging the club no faster than 95mph (If I was lucky), I did however hit it pretty damn straight most of the time, got up & down a lot, & holed a few putts I wasn't trying to stop early extension. I wasn't trying to "drop it in the slot". I wasn't trying to "get open at impact (I couldn't). All I tried to do was swing my arms & control where the face was at impact I played better golf than 99% of golfers on the planet & I had no speed + a crippled lower back I think we need to ask ourselves what is truely required to play good golf. It actually doesn't take that much...

Rory McIlroy says the way he beat his first-tee nerves was to picture the ball in the trees and walk the worst case all the way to its end. "I say this all the time. It's counterintuitive to a lot of people to do this, but I do. If you're trying to overcome anxiety or nerves or on performance, I do try to think about, well, what's the worst that could happen?" "I'm not gonna die on the golf course, thankfully." "I used to have, like, first tee nerves, like, big time. I would struggle on the first tee. Bob MacIntyre was given a conduct warning by the rules officials today the same as Jon Rahm earlier this week. He reacted to it after the round and said he would have deserved a two shot penalty if he was given one: “Yeah, yeah, but I expect to get a few of them in my career. Yeah, I run hot. So be it… “I'm going to do it for the rest of my career. I try and toe the line, but when you feel like -- when you feel you're playing a golf course that you can hit it pretty much anywhere and there's no real punishment and then you do hit one slightly off line and you get the biggest punishment you can possibly get, it's just a sore one. Again, I'm going to react aggressively at times. Part of my DNA.” When asked if it’s tricky to understand how the rule is implemented, he said: “To be honest, I couldn't care less. If I got a two-shot penalty, it's my fault. A warning, it's my fault. I don't really worry about it.” Bob shot rounds of 67, 69, 71 and 71 to currently sit in T29 at The Open. Jon Rahm on the LIV format: “Yeah, obviously there’s been a bit of a change. There was a lot more about LIV Golf that was attractive to me, right. Yeah, maybe the format was a set back in the past, but at the same time there’s a lot of positives to it as well. And one of the things that a lot of players kept mentioning is you don’t have a wave weather difference, where you can simply get unlucky and you’re out of contention for that tournament. It’s part of the game, I get it, but it’s something you don’t have to deal with anymore. So that part is a very nice aspect. The team is what really made it for me. Being able to be part of a team, represent a team, play for my teammates, with my teammates and against my teammates, is something that to me that has always been very, very special. When you get a victory to share, it’s always better to have a team to share it with. So it’s what was the most attractive part and when we started discussions it gets to a point where even though I’m ambitious, I’m not greedy. So there’s a give and take and the format is something that I can easily overlook, and I’m pretty sure I can learn to enjoy it, I’ll just have to get used to it, but I’m pretty sure I’ll learn to enjoy it. To be honest, the more I started thinking about it, the more I started thinking about my college days that were 3 day tournaments, 54 holes, and everybody warmed up together for the most part. It seems to be working okay for me this week. But still a long way to go. QUESTION: Your post-shot reactions are the stuff of legend, but also David Feherty makes a point quite often of how quickly you recover and refocus on the next shot. Does this course force you to do that even more? HATTON: I mean, yeah. This golf course can be very frustrating. Obviously I lose my head around the simplest of golf courses. Maybe guys playing this week, it kind of brings them closer to my level of losing their mind. I'm happy with how I've played the last two days. Even today when it was difficult, I was in some difficult positions, I still didn't feel like I was hitting that bad a golf shot. But it kind of happens around here, and ultimately just happy with how the back nine played out. Yeah, looking forward to the weekend now. QUESTION: Speaking of the weekend, the expectation level starting the week probably didn't sound like it was that high based on what you said yesterday. Does it change with the way you've played through two rounds? HATTON: I mean, I would say that the last two rounds have allowed me to feel more comfortable with what I'm trying to do and feel with the golf swing, and generally I feel like I've hit a lot of really good shots. Was there a consistent theme to the internal dialogue that led to this kind of performance this week? What were you thinking? HERBERT: I don't know. I think last week gave me a lot of confidence that I can mix it with the best guys. Just wanted to really carry that into this week the best I could. I think I got out of my own way the first two rounds and I started thinking about it yesterday. Yeah, it was just good to play like that today when I was being pushed by two of the best players in the world. JERRY: I remember vividly following you when you won your first event on the PGA TOUR in Bermuda. On that final hole, you were visibly nervous on your second shot. You looked like you were immune to nerves all week long. How does that come about? HERBERT: I think it was a bit of a trick in hiding it. I was definitely feeling it out there. I can only do what I can do. I was able to take care of what I needed to do today pretty well to get me over the line. I knew it wasn't going to be a day where even par, 1-under was going to get it done for me. I knew I had to go out there and get it. Just kept pushing myself the whole way, and here we are JERRY: Did you ever hit some shots, notably the bunker shot in addition to so many others this week, where you just shook your head, like, I can't believe how good this is going? HERBERT: There's definitely a lot of shots -- I can think of the first shot on 10, I kind of pull one, and you're asking for it to get a good lie in the hay, lands in the rough and kicks all the way down there, you get on the green and make eagle. It was one of those weeks, just when you needed a good break. I think of the 6th hole today up the hill, the par-5, it finishes half a foot inside the short stuff and I can get it greenside. I'm looking at the lie, a foot right of that, and it could have been a load of trouble. I played great this week, but also, I got a lot of good breaks, which is really nice. Courtney Williams on hard it was to learn to play point guard after being a 2 guard her whole like “Overly hard(laughing) like you damn near got to take the back seat to yourself. Like I would have let that thing fly all the time, imma just be honest because at the 1 spot you have the ball in your hand so much, like I come down and I’m like I could shoot this ball every time if I wanted to, but I can’t… like at the 1 spot you need to play make and facilitate and then it’s about your shot, at the 2 and the 3 it’s like go score. So yeah, it was hard(smiles)”

Scottie Scheffler was asked ahead of the Travelers Championship how he feels about the impact it’s had on the game: “Yeah, I think it's great for golf to become more mainstream. I think you see, especially since COVID, there's been a tremendous growth in the amount of people that are playing golf. “I think it's the greatest game in the world. You learn a lot about life. I met some of my best friends in the whole world playing golf. So for people getting involved in the sport I think is tremendous. “Like I said, getting to spend four hours with somebody outside hanging out playing a game is something that's pretty rare in the busyness I think that we live in today. So getting out taking some time with your buddies and going to play golf is one of the most fun things you can do. A lot of you complaining about shooting in 2k25 dont understand how the shooting actually works and are just calling it bad so let me break it down real quick The shooting itself is pretty EASY, if you cant green your first few shots you're just mistiming and need to learn your timing or get better, for example you can green your first 2 jumpshots very easily. NOW LETS GET TO THE PROBLEM. But after say for example you make 2 shots in a row, MOST OF THE TIME 2k will give you NO GREEN WINDOW at all on the next shot, leaving it completely up to RNG (random) whether your next shot will go in (will most likely miss). So essentially 2k is punishing you for greening multiple shots in a row by forcing you to eventually miss your next shot most of the time. In this clip in a ranked 1v1 match, my opponent greens 2 shots in a row then i confidently leave him WIDE OPEN for the 3rd shot knowing that he will 100% MISS because of the algorithm and he does...then i do the exact same thing again after he makes 2 more shots in a row, i leave him WIDE OPEN for his 3rd shot knowing he will miss again and he does indeed miss... You should not be PUNISHED for timing your jumpshot correctly by being given no green window after you make a sequence of shots, THAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE SHOOTING...it is not hard to time your shot in general, the issue is after you make a few shots, you're given NO GREEN WINDOW, which is leaving it up to RNG which should not be a thing. A lot of you complaining about shooting in 2k25 dont understand how the shooting actually works and are just calling it bad so let me break it down real quick The shooting itself is pretty EASY, if you cant green your first few shots you're just mistiming and need to learn your timing or get better, for example you can green your first 2 jumpshots very easily. NOW LETS GET TO THE PROBLEM. But after say for example you make 2 shots in a row, MOST OF THE TIME 2k will give you NO GREEN WINDOW at all on the next shot, leaving it completely up to RNG (random) whether your next shot will go in (will most likely miss). So essentially 2k is punishing you for greening multiple shots in a row by forcing you to eventually miss your next shot most of the time. In this clip in a ranked 1v1 match, my opponent greens 2 shots in a row then i confidently leave him WIDE OPEN for the 3rd shot knowing that he will 100% MISS because of the algorithm and he does...then i do the exact same thing again after he makes 2 more shots in a row, i leave him WIDE OPEN for his 3rd shot knowing he will miss again and he does indeed miss... You should not be PUNISHED for timing your jumpshot correctly by being given no green window after you make a sequence of shots, THAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE SHOOTING...it is not hard to time your shot in general, the issue is after you make a few shots, you're given NO GREEN WINDOW, which is leaving it up to RNG which should not be a thing. Scottie Scheffler has made golf look easy over the last few years, but he’s clearly frustrated with his game this week: “I felt like I was going to shoot about 90 today. “I don't know if you were out there on the course, but I was going to be hard to find if you were out watching my group. I felt like I got my first birdie putt of the day on the 13th hole. I maybe had one on 11, but I couldn't imagine I hit more than six or seven greens today. So around this golf course, with heavy rough and deep bunkers, you got to be hitting the ball in the right spots and for a long time today that was definitely not the case for me.” Scottie was visibly frustrated yesterday at the Memorial and had a long, heated discussion with his caddie Ted Scott after dunking a ball into the water. After rallying with 3 birdies in his last 6 holes today for a level par 72, he currently sits T20 and he was asked how proud he was to comfortably make the cut after looking in danger earlier in the round: “I think I grind like that every day. I think that's just part of the game. That's maybe some of the worst I've hit it in a couple years out there and I still managed to shoot even par around a golf course that requires to you strike the ball really well. Yeah, I'm definitely very proud of stuff like that. “This tournament was one that definitely could have got away from me, but right now I'm only nine shots back and still have a chance going into the weekend. I Won My US Open Local Q today I shot 66 today to win the US Open Local qualifying out of 132 players. My two goals today were 1) to have no expectations. I haven’t been able to play as much as I’d like, so I told myself repeatedly today to have no expectations. We can only become frustrated with ourselves if we place expectations on outcomes. 2) do not be a puppet to results. I just accepted every shot that was hit and was not going to get emotional about results. I truly did not care if I hit a bad shot if I had a good process. And yes I hit numerous poor shots. However, if I had a good decade target, stuck to my routine, and committed to the shot then I was able to accept any result that occurred. Maybe there’s something to learn in there. 1 step away from the US Open.

Took a walk around Lakewood CC this past wknd for the first time since December to see how the course held up through the winter. Everything looks good. We are ready for some spring sun and warmth to begin the growth season. A big question I get is what was done to the Great Hazard on #6 which is now #15. It was completely redone. Moved about 15-20 yds forward so a lay up is a shorter shot. The left side was opened up and fairway expanded to allow for a bail out if you don’t take on the entire span. The hazard itself was sunken down about 3 ft to allow you to see it from the tee and fairway. It was also expanded diagonally to the right as that side is where you want to come in from on your third shot but you better make sure you can clear the top right of it. The last pic compliments of J. Liebert Golf Pics is the before version. I’d say the new version is pretty darn good.
