Why quantum theory could have a fractal structure: explained in 83 minutes. The notion of true quantum nonlocality is absurd. In the latest episode of the Quantum Foundations Podcast, Prof Tim Palmer from the University of Oxford suggests that there is a hidden assumption in standard quantum mechanics, and dropping it will save us from this absurdity. Namely, the reality of counterfactuals: the physics of what could have happened but did not. Inspired by chaos theory and the fractal structure widespread in atmospheric physics, Palmer has developed a new underlying structure for quantum theory, with radical implications for our fundamental principles of quantum physics; the limits of quantum computation; and perhaps even the search for quantum gravity. Few realize how close we are to a complete Physics revolution. Particle physics is about to be replaced by quantum-wave theory. There is no inconsistency between quantum and macro. Mass is energy. Standing waves produce coherence. The double slit experiment is the gateway to our new understanding. Think about what the answer must be. The electron is traversing all possible paths. How? Space is not empty. All points in space and time are connected. We can travel faster than the speed of light.

Why String Theory Won't Die The string theory idea refuses to die because it's one of the few frameworks that forces a quantum object and spacetime geometry into the same picture. In the render, a closed string isn’t just a loop doing pretty vibrations. Its internal phase pattern is a quantum degree of freedom, shown as color. At the same time, its motion stirs ripples in the surrounding metric, shown as the fabric below. One object, two roles. A wave-like state living on the string, and a curvature-like response spreading through the background. D-Branes and the Expansion of String Theory String Theory was already attempting to do something huge by trying to describe particles, forces, and gravity in one framework. Branes made that picture much richer. When Physicists found that open strings can end on objects called D-branes, many important ideas became easier to organize. Things like gauge fields, black hole microstates, holography, and deep dualities gained a clearer place inside the theory. They showed that String Theory is not only about tiny vibrating strings, but also about larger structures that help connect Quantum Physics, Geometry, and Gravity.
