The first baseman tags the runner on first while he is still on first base and then tags the base with his foot. This play happened a couple of years ago in a regional final matchup. Unique to say the least. A single up the middle to center field. One run scores. The center fielder charges and throws home. The second runner is coming in to score. The runner slides, the catcher swipes at his arm, was he safe or out? The issue here is the runner who scored before stays behind home plate and is waving for the next runner to get down. The home plate umpire bumps into him, trips, and falls down and doesn’t see the play. 🤯 You can defer to the field umpire but if he didn’t see it, what call can you make? 🤷‍♂️ Some said the runner should be out because the player who scored first interfered with the home plate umpire. I have never seen a play like this. What do you think? What’s the call? Safe or out?

Iran's as their last minute goal vs Egypt was overturned by VAR denying them a crucial victory that would have guaranteed an advancement out of groups. The player was in an offsides position when the ball was played by the original shooter so he cannot play the ball on the rebound. That is if there is a deflection. There is an exception: If a defending player deliberately plays or controls the ball (such as attempting a back-pass or a controlled clearance) and it falls to you, the offside is reset, and you can legally play the ball. That obviously doesn’t happen here. It’s a clear deflection and rebound in this play and isn’t the defense gaining control and sending it to the originally offsides player. 🚨FOURTH OUT MISTAKE!!!🚨 NO WAY!!! Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays and in the 7th Boston has first and third and one out. Ceddanne Rafaela hits a fly to center and both runners forget there was one out and just ran without tagging up. After the ball was caught, the Blue Jays threw the ball in and doubled off the runner at first, for an inning ending double play. Since the runner from third scored BEFORE the third out, the run counts because this is not a force, but a timing play. What Toronto SHOULD have done is after the out at first, they legally could have thrown to third and appealed that that runner left early. This would have been the elusive FOURTH OUT and this would have replaced the third out and nullified the run. Once all the infielders crossed the foul line, the ability to appeal the play was lost, and once that happened, the run was officially counted. #DieryWater #BlueJays50

This is a first that I’ve ever seen: challenging a call and you end up getting 3 strikes against you😅 Call on the field was out. Alabama challenged the call (obstruction on catcher) and ending up confirming the call was out, the runner at 3rd was ruled out because of the interference and then finally the runner going into home got a warning issues. You usually always see the catchers getting the short end of the stick but this time it’s the runner plus some.

This runner at second base tried to steal third base. The catcher throws the ball down to the third base girl, she applies the tag and the runner is called out. The coach wanted obstruction on the third base girl. The 3rd base umpire said no obstruction. They ask for the home plate umpire’s help but he sticks with the call from the 3rd base umpire. When you look at it, the runner had a clear path to the bag but ran high and slid into the third base girl when if she had gone in more of a straight line would have made the tag harder. She didn’t try to slide into the base but rather the fielder imho. I say no obstruction and the right call was made. You make the call.

This play caused some scorekeeper confusion. The batter is up with two outs and two strikes. Runner on third base. The batter swings and misses, strike three but the ball gets by the catcher. Before the catcher can throw down to first base to try and get the batter out, he tags the runner out from third who is trying to steal home. Inning over. This umpire called a ball that the defensive team thought was a strike. The coach called a timeout after the walk and gathered his infield on the mound. On the next pitch, the catcher slid to the right out of the way of the ball making no attempt to catch it and let it drill the umpire right in the mask. Umpires are fallible human beings. Bad call? Maybe it was. But intentionally letting the ball hit him is poor sportsmanship, dangerous and has no place in the game. The coach, pitcher and catcher should all be ejected from the game. Heck, I might just call the game if I was the umpire and if that is what you are teaching your players, maybe that coach should never be allowed to coach again. What would you do if you were the umpire? How about if it was your child pitching or catching? And what are you saying to the coach if he was the coach of your team?

Runner’s interference is called here to end the championship game. This is a tough call and it’s a call that can’t be reviewed. It’s all umpire discretion. A runner can be called out for interference if they hinder, impede, confuse, or obstruct a fielder who is attempting to make a play, even if no physical contact occurs. The last part is the biggest take away- physical contact does not need to occur in order for it to be interference. I teach my defenders to go through the runner if they need to so there’s zero confusion if a runner interferes. Tough ending to this game!
