In collaboration with Lululemon, detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department - Investigative Section have been working inside and around the business to address recent felony theft related incidents. On February 19, 2025 at 2:15 p.m., detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department - Investigative Section and Street Crimes Unit were at the Lululemon in the 100 block of Crown Park Avenue working the retail theft detail when they observed four unknown females enter the business, split up, and bearhug multiple items. Footage shows a mass theft incident at a JD store in east London, with an estimated 10 to 15 individuals running from the store with armfuls of clothing as store staff attempted to intervene. The incident is reported to be the subject of a Metropolitan Police investigation. Identifying details of those involved have been blurred. No arrests have been publicly confirmed at the time of posting. Retail crime across England and Wales has reached record levels. The British Retail Consortium recorded over 20 million customer theft incidents in the year to August 2024, with retailers reporting that less than 30% of shoplifting incidents now receive a police response. Industry estimates put the total cost of retail crime at over £2 billion annually. In response, the Crime and Policing Act 2025 introduced a new criminal offence of assaulting a retail worker, carrying a maximum sentence of 12 months in prison. The Act also removed the £200 threshold below which shop theft was previously considered a summary-only offence, allowing more serious cases to be tried in Crown Court. The Metropolitan Police has pledged to attend all retail crime incidents where suspects are detained, evidence is available, or where there is a reasonable line of enquiry. The British Retail Consortium continues to call for tougher sentencing and a dedicated retail crime response unit. If you have information about retail crime incidents, contact the Metropolitan Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. 🎥 London.ukcrime 📍 East London #UB1UB2 #London #News
