Synthetic data will provide the next trillion tokens to fuel our hungry models. I'm excited to announce MimicGen: massively scaling up data pipeline for robot learning! We multiply high-quality human data in simulation with digital twins. Using 50,000 training episodes across 18 tasks, multiple simulators, and even in the real-world! The idea is simple: 1. Humans tele-operate the robot to complete a task. It is extremely high-quality but also very slow and expensive. 2. We create a digital twin of the robot and the scene in high-fidelity, GPU-accelerated simulation. 3. We can now move objects around, replace with new assets, and even change the robot hand - basically augment the training data with procedural generation. 4. Export the successful episodes, and feed that to a neural network! You now have an near-infinite stream of data. One of the key reasons that robotics lags far behind other AI fields is the lack of data: you cannot scrape control signals from the internet. They simply don't exist in-the-wild. MimicGen shows the power of synthetic data and simulation to keep our scaling laws alive. I believe this principle apply beyond robotics. Feeling what a robot feels is becoming real! 🫰 Fluid Reality just ran its first full end-to-end touch teleoperation system, and the demo shows why high-resolution haptics might be the missing piece in robot control. A 22 mm fingertip display with 32 independently actuated “bubbles” was mapped directly to tactile sensors on a robot hand. 🫧 Three fingers streamed real-time touch data robot → human, giving the operator actual contact feedback instead of waving their hands blind, like most teleop systems today. We might be solving the wrong problem in robotics. That’s what this makes clear. UMI → Universal Manipulation Interface A simple $400 gripper that lets you teach robots by demonstration. You hold it like a tool. Show the task. The robot learns. No teleoperation. No expensive hardware. No robot-specific data. Stanford open-sourced everything → hardware, code, datasets. What stands out to me is the bottleneck. Not algorithms. Data. Teleoperation → ~35 demos/hour UMI → ~111 demos/hour And the data transfers across robots → UR5, Franka, others. 15–30 minutes of real-world robot data. That's now enough to go from sim-to-real failure to working robot. Let’s see… You train a robot in simulation. You deploy it in the real world. It fails. The physics don't match. So you try to fine-tune it with real data, but… you never have enough real data, and the fine-tuning breaks everything the simulation taught it. SimDist fixes this with one key decision: don't transfer the policy. Transfer the world model. Keep the reward and value knowledge from simulation frozen. Only update the part that's actually wrong, how the robot predicts physics. Now the robot doesn't have to relearn the entire task in the real world. It already knows what success looks like. It just needs to correct its understanding of how the real world moves. The part that makes this work: they also trained on failures and recoveries; not just perfect demonstrations. Without that, the planner finds the gaps and exploits them. With it, the robot can tell a good future from a bad one. That's all it needs. Results on peg insertion, table leg assembly, locomotion on slippery and uneven surfaces. Tasks that require precision, force, and quick reaction. GPT and its fellow large language models were bootstrapped and proved out on a massive dataset of real-world language data. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, similarly massive datasets don’t really exist for robotics — so, in our unending pursuit of high-quality, useful data, we turn to simulation. Brain-controlled exoskeletons to train humanoid robots! 🧠 Fourier just presented human tele-operators using brain control interfaces and exoskeletal arms to train humanoid robots on home tasks. The brain control interface is the interesting part. Instead of using a controller or joystick to teleoperate, the operator's movements and intentions are captured more naturally through the exoskeleton and BCI. This means the demonstrations are more fluid, more human-like, and better suited for training robots to perform delicate home tasks. Multiple tele-operators are simultaneously generating training data across multiple robots. This is how you build the dataset needed for eventual full autonomy, without waiting years for it to arrive. This might be the bridge between "robots that work in controlled environments" and "robots that work in homes." Another win for open-source robotics! 🔥 Hugging Face just released a fully open-source humanoid robot, and you can build one for $2,500. I'm a huge advocate of open-source in robotics space. Why? Robotics is too hard to solve alone. So lowering the entry point is crucial. Also, ROS proved open ecosystems create lasting industry standards. So let's have a look at the new member of humanoids family! LeRobot Humanoid is a 3D-printed, bipedal humanoid platform designed for real robot learning experiments. It's a complete and, buildable robot Anddddd yes, it's a full stack release: → Hardware files, bill of materials and full assembly documentation → Simulation assets and training environments → Runtime tools for calibration and real-world control → Sim-to-real identification pipeline When a part breaks, reprint it. Mocap is expensive, dangerous edge cases are rare, and you can’t ask humans to repeatedly fall or crash. Video2Robot tackles this by converting videos into physics-grounded humanoid simulations. Motion is generated to respect balance, inertia, ground contact, and joint limits, then directly retargeted to robot simulators. One prompt can generate a full humanoid motion sequence, including multi-agent interactions and failure cases like falls or collisions, scenarios that are hard or impossible to capture safely in the real world. The pipeline is model-agnostic and works with existing video generators, making it a practical way to scale data for robots.
