Just shipped two cool updates for Claude Code in the Desktop app. 1. Plan mode is now available on Desktop. Have Claude map out its approach before making any changes

2. Notifications. Claude Code Desktop now pings you whenever Claude needs approval, you can keep working while Claude runs in the background

I think a high leverage thing you guys can do rn is improve the chrome mcp (and maybe add a holistic browser mcp) currently kinda annoying to get claude to verify its work for anything non backend

how do you --dangerously-skip-permissions on the desktop app? asking for a friend

Please ship a basic claude setup with min necessary skills, file , folder structure, important rules, memory management etc. Put it inside askuserquestiontool and let us set it up using claude. Context engineering template seems important but there is only plan and build mode. Idk why. It drives me nut.

this is awesome!!!!! quick thing, mine for some reason cannot exit the plan mode and it stays there endlessly spending time without being able to exit and act. great addition, this is so cool

Can you explain why one would use desktop vs CLI?

Profilbild von Boris Cherny

Built in worktree support, nice visual diffs, lots more. Engineers are all different, and some prefer CLI while others prefer Desktop, IDE, web, or mobile. There’s no one right way.

I really appreciate the attention to replying to your user base! Another team member did as well. Shows you all care! As a non engineer, but someone who uses the CLI, it would be nice to have a built in web viewer so I didn’t have to go to chrome and Claude could see it’s work

Love what you do brother! Check out this content I'm cooking for Claude Code. I made a CC meme generator & 2D space invader game all live on stream, now working on a StarFox64 style 3D game next!

Would be cool if Claude Cowork could see the desktop and all of the windows

Boris, you don’t know me, but I just wanted to say: we and our entire team is absolutely smitten with the whole Anthropic family. Especially big daddy Opus after his latest release. You all have created something beautiful and magical. And for that, we thank you.

Two questions. 1. A few times the convo has been “stuck”. Is this just due to a really long convo and I should start a new one or something else? 2. Dangerously skip permissions on desktops coming soon??

experimenting with Claude Code Desktop! I noticed when I try to drag a folder into the chat field on Code tab, it doesn't paste the path as it does on Terminal (CLI doesn't either on the App)...can we enable that somehow? Thanks! :)

plan mode on desktop is huge 🔥 being able to review the approach before it touches code is a game changer. i'm shipping every 3 days, this is exactly what i needed

Your shipping speed is beyond the limits brother! Q: how many PRs approx. are u closing a day on CC alone?

Plan mode sounds like it addresses that anxiety of watching Claude start coding before you're sure it understood the requirements correctly. Having it think out loud first probably saves a lot of backtracking.

can we have skills and plugins in claude code desktop?

Plan mode sounds useful until you realize it's just another approval step that slows things down. The problem with AI coding tools isn't that they move too fast. It's that they confidently make wrong changes and you don't catch them until later. Plan mode lets you review the approach before execution. Great for complex tasks where direction matters. Useless for simple fixes where you just want the thing done. Most people will either skip it because it adds friction, or use it religiously and wonder why everything takes longer. The value depends entirely on whether you know enough to evaluate if the plan's any good. If you can't spot a bad approach in the outline, you won't spot it in the code either. This helps experienced developers who want to sanity-check before Claude rewrites half their codebase. Doesn't help beginners who can't tell if the plan makes sense in the first place. It's a feature for people who already know what they're doing. Which raises the question: if you know enough to evaluate the plan, why not just write it yourself?

Please start to address the over 5k Github Issues. Please. Let's stop shipping half-baked CC features and address the MASSIVE Issues queue? 2k people have said tokens and/or context is broken. It's perpetually ignored. I mean, WTF?

I made a cool compressor and crop with Claude CLI! I needed the app for myself, i said i can build it faster than search something that says it does it for free! Extension in chrome web-store free! Real free! ZERO money involved :)

Sweet, maybe I'll try it if I ever use my desktop again. Meanwhile, I used cc to build a new keyboard just to make it easier to use cc on mobile (in termux). Check it out here: 2,414 commits so far heh

I’m sorry but the experience using the desktop app for claude code is just awful, got stuck downloading dependencies most of the time and other times it just won’t work lol like straight up won’t start the session vscode IDE extension and terminal experience remain goated

Plan mode on desktop feels like a huge jump—having Claude map out its approach before edits makes the automation feel less mysterious and more trustworthy.
