I interviewed Don Norman in an honest conversation (that has now gone viral). It's a fallacy that designers only need to focus on design; business knowledge is too important. Don discussed with me: Design education needs to change to focus on broader skills and design thinking, they often lack the understanding of how the world works and are only trained with an art basis. Understanding business operations and economics is crucial for making a difference in the world. What are your 2c on this?

Prototyping can be fun in Figma and a nightmare when you are new to it. As a self-taught designer, I had to figure everything out the hard way. I thought I had seen it all when I was learning Adobe Photoshop back then in 2012. I discovered Figma four years ago and decided to explore the tool since I had been using Adobe XD and Sketch to create some mockups. When I discovered Figma, I created the prototype I shared in my last post just because it popped into my head when I was in the bathroom 😂. I rushed out and decided to try it immediately, more like a freestyle thing and was never intended to be a real product but could be modified into becoming one if the need arises. But many misunderstood the point, which was using the video to convey a message to other young designers never to skip the process, else you will create the wrong MVP. How a Chief Design Officer (yours truly) uses AI to design like an IC. This demo is for any designers that haven't yet embraced AI in their workflow. I’m one of two designers working on this plugin. I manage an organization of about 40 designers of various flavors, but I still keep myself in the trenches whenever possible. Lynt is one of these efforts. The examples I share are intentionally very simple to demonstrate how any designer at any level can leverage artificial intelligence to amplify and accelerate their human intelligence. AI is revolutionizing how we work as designers, yet I think of it more like a renaissance; a return to designing in consideration of the medium in which our designs are rendered, much like we did years ago when I first started. Arbitrarily, something like 80% of what we do as designers (in the act of designing) is exploration and iteration. For the past decade or more so much of that has happened in Figma and previously Sketch. These are great tools. But as a result of designing exclusively in a static environment, many have lost the ability to connect ideation with execution. Handholding your work from start to finish eventually gave way to handing off your work, and we never looked back. Artificial intelligence flips all of this on its head, positioning you (the designer) to be the one who first turns your design into code, iterate and iterate again, and experience using your work as users will, literally from day one of your design process. All the while freeing our engineering colleagues to focus on the work that only they can do, while designing alongside them.

“blank canvas problem” figma says raw and unformed feelings… this should not be shared. * Look, I love AI! I lead and design products for AI & Data Solutions in one of the largest firms in the world. I use these tools every day. I’m one of the biggest advocates of AI. I do NOT fear it. I leverage it. I appreciate what Figma is trying to do here. Good intentions to help designers build faster. Make the design easier and accessible for everyone. And of course, meanwhile, profit from It. it is a business after all and it is perfectly fine. While I was watching Dylan generate detailed designs from a prompt, I started seeing aspiring designers getting attached to these tools and having everything easy, ready, quick… and a series of questions started to arise in my mind; * ➟ Are we going to see a generation of designers who lack resilience and love/appreciation for craft? ➟ Designers who are easily hurt and seek help from AI tools every time a client raises a criticism for the proposed design? ➟ Are these designers going to blame AI tools for the outcome and not take accountability for it? ➟ Perhaps they will go back to the AI input and generate 20+ options for clients in 5 mins without thinking instead of talking to the client, understanding the product positioning and actually thinking/exploring/working for the best design solution? ➟ Are we going to see lazier designers? and weak, giving up, getting frustrated easily? * Dylan says ”This tool helps us to get past the blank canvas problem” Blank canvas is one of the best parts of this work. A new fresh start with endless possibilities. Staring at the blank screen and reflecting on our past experiences, our conversations with the client, transforming these thoughts on screen pixel by pixel… That’s how we truly understand the problem at hand and grow as designers. You may say I’m being a romantic, trying to stay in the past. No. Again, I build these tools and encourage everyone to leverage them. However, yes, I have concerns. Not about the efficiencies this technology brings, Concerns about; AI may raise a generation of weak-minded designers who lack an appreciation for the craft. * It is 2:14 am, I should go to sleep. figma "god mode" just leaked.. this week i tried the future of autonomous design: claude connected directly to the figma api with full edit access.. yes it can design in figma what does it mean? you prompt, it designs. it’s like having a team of designers inside figma working with you and 10x ing your capacity ​why is this different? ​official figma ai/mcp only "reads" files to help devs. this tool (unofficial MCP) "writes" in figma to replace manual labor. hours of grinding turned into seconds of waiting ​imagine this: - ​prompt to design: generate a new screen based on your design or not - prompt to flow: generate end to end user journeys - iteration: create multiple variations in one click - design system: it can use your components to create new screens - ​zero click management: auto layout, component creation, deduplication handled by prompt - ​universal control: if you can do it in figma, it can do it for you ​the impact ​if figma officially releases this, almost every existing plugin becomes obsolete overnight it feels like figma on steroids. i’m still processing whether i feel empowered or replaced ​full tutorial in this article from Mark A. We’ve had quite a bit of attention lately. A lot of incredible people are reaching out and it feels like half the X design community is playing around with our style. The other half is trying to figure out what makes it work. What we do isn’t technically complex or groundbreaking at all. I think it stands out simply because finance design/branding, especially on the B2B side where we operate, is usually dull and conservative. In fact, we’re just two self-taught designers creating basically everything you see in our socials. We’ve turned our technical shortcomings into an advantage by learning to do a few simple things really well. Prototyping used to scare me. So I tried to escape it. I remember when I first started designing in Figma, prototyping felt like a mountain I didn’t want to climb. It was that one thing most designers quietly avoided some even said it’s not necessary 😄. I searched for shortcuts. Tried ProtoPie. Looked into Principle. Hoped one of them would save me the trouble. But they all felt disconnected. Too complex. Or just not Figma. So I made a decision: If I’m designing in Figma, I’m prototyping in Figma too. That meant doing everything, product planning, ideation, low-fi, high-fi, and interaction flows all in one tool. No more bouncing around. No more excuses. The first nut to crack? A loading effect. It took me 4 days to figure out. I searched everywhere, YouTube had nothing at the time. But I cracked it just one morning I saw myself trying it out in my dream. Woke up immediately and it was 4am, tried it and it worked. And that changed everything. Prototyping became the one language I could use to explain my designs… without explaining. Today, every prototype I create lives and breathes in Figma. Most of them can either be creative exploration or me trying to fix a broken user experience. No exports. No guesswork. Just clean, clickable experiences. It wasn’t easy. But I’m glad I stopped running from it. Because I would’ve missed out on one skill that: ✅ Earned my first £95K within 7 months while in UK. ✅ Got Uber to reach out to speak about interactive design. ✅ Worked with so many client even from Pakistan. ✅ Watched by more than 1 million people in the first 6 months I started sharing interactive designs. ✅ Prototyping landed me a 9-month contract just 3 days after getting laid off last year. ✅ Funny how the skill I once ran from helped me grow from 500 to 50,000 followers in 7 months. That meant doing everything, product planning, ideation, low-fi, high-fi, and interaction flows all in one tool. No more bouncing around. No more excuses. The first nut to crack? A loading effect. It took me 4 days to figure out. I searched everywhere, YouTube had nothing at the time. But I cracked it just one morning I saw myself trying it out in my dream. Woke up immediately and it was 4am, tried it and it worked. And that changed everything. Prototyping became the one language I could use to explain my designs… without explaining. Today, every prototype I create lives and breathes in Figma. Most of them can either be creative exploration or me trying to fix a broken user experience. No exports. No guesswork. Just clean, clickable experiences. It wasn’t easy. But I’m glad I stopped running from it. Because I would’ve missed out on one skill that: ✅ Earned my first £95K within 7 months while in UK. ✅ Got Uber to reach out to speak about interactive design. ✅ Worked with so many client even from Pakistan. ✅ Watched by more than 1 million people in the first 6 months I started sharing interactive designs. ✅ Prototyping landed me a 9-month contract just 3 days after getting laid off last year. ✅ Funny how the skill I once ran from helped me grow from 500 to 50,000 followers in 7 months. I used Figma Make to build the most delightful link library and book cover configurator ever vibecoded. For the Contra x Figma Makeathon, I decided to build an app to turn my 47 open tabs into a beautiful book. Then I put it on a shelf for the whole internet to browse. It's called Stash For each collection, you have the opportunity to design the best cover ever using the in-app configurator. It has pencils, markers, stamps, graffiti... The entire thing is made in Figma, including stamps, illustrations, and graffiti artworks. I think this is my best public work so far and I hope it lets me leave a mark on the internet.

Stumbled on Vercel’s creative design team page and instantly fell in love with the design, animations, and micro-interactions. So I decided to take a shot at it, recreating the experience for a fictional company called Varxell, with my own spin on everything except the design itself + I didn’t touch any of their assets. Everything was hand-coded from scratch, and every single asset was recreated in Figma. It was a fun challenge. Built with: • React • TypeScript • Vite • Framer Motion Live site: • • Repo: • Every page functionality and animation was implemented as a reusable hook, with internal JSDoc to make it easy to reuse in your own projects or remix however you like.
