"Our matters are solved. Timelines have been agreed, and the person who invited us has never failed resident doctors," says the President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Muhammad Usman Suleiman, following a high-level meeting with the Federal Government led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila to address outstanding issues affecting resident doctors. Key highlights include: - Government and NARD agreed on one-week timelines for the implementation of salary adjustments, promotions, and other outstanding welfare issues. - A standing directive has been issued to ensure house officers receive their salaries before the 10th of every month, ending delays in salary payments. - Government reaffirmed its commitment to clearing outstanding promotion arrears and resolving the 19-month professional allowance backlog, with implementation timelines to be communicated. - The Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Health have been directed to fast-track the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) process to enable budgetary provisions and implementation in the next fiscal year. - The Federal Government will strengthen security in public hospitals, issue directives to create safer working environments for healthcare workers, and intensify public awareness against assaults on medical personnel. - The Chief of Staff to the President also pledged to support legislation that would classify assaults on health workers as aggravated offences, providing stronger legal protection for medical professionals. - NARD acknowledged the positive outcome of the meeting, expressing confidence that the agreed resolutions have substantially addressed its concerns, while noting that its National Executive Council will review the agreements before taking a final decision on the ongoing industrial action.

"...the Washington Accords represent a new chapter. The Accords establish clear commitments from both sides to respect territorial integrity, cease support for armed groups, and cooperate on border security and economic development. The Accords also envision a robust framework for monitoring and implementation, with the United States, Qatar, and the African Union working together to play a central role in future mediation and oversight. We know that peace is fragile and our work does not end with the signing of the Accords. As we move forward, our focus remains on the difficult work of implementation. I am preparing changes across our diplomatic efforts. We need a new quality of engagement with Ukraine’s partners to ensure the implementation of our agreements on weapons supplies. The agreements reached at the leaders’ level must be implemented much faster and in full. The U.S. and our agreement on licenses for the production of Patriots. Europe and our work to develop Europe’s own anti-ballistic capabilities, as well as other projects focused specifically on defensive cooperation. Also, the support packages for Ukraine that have been announced but, as of today, have not yet been delivered in full.

As President Trump stated, extraordinary progress has been made in just one year: a ceasefire that ended large-scale war; the return of all living hostages and the remains of the deceased; historic increases in humanitarian aid and improved nutrition across Gaza; and a roadmap to demilitarize, deradicalize, and rebuild Gaza, which will enable a future of peace and prosperity for Palestinians, and lasting security for the people of Israel. Our mission is hard, and the work ahead will not be easy. But with the strong support of our international partners, including the UAE, the EU, and others, we are confident that we can succeed and turn the plan’s vision into reality.

#WATCH | Delhi | All India Bank Officers' Confederation Delhi President Kushal Gupta says, “Our nationwide strike today centres on four key issues regarding the private banking sector and the government's stance. Regarding the 'Joint Note' settlement we signed in 2024, the Government of India made several promises to fulfil specific commitments within a set timeframe. However, thirty months have passed, and the government remains completely indifferent; they are not even willing to listen to us. That is why we have called for this strike today, a nationwide strike involving all bankers… Our primary demand concerns the implementation of a five-day work week for banking… I appeal to the people of the entire country of India to extend their support to us.”

Tomorrow is an important day. We are anticipating a historic conclusion from the European Union—a report on Ukraine's implementation of the European Commission's recommendations. And we are already planning our next steps following this report. Our legislative efforts and the strengthening of state institutions. Ukraine has already come a long way toward stronger ties with the European Union. We are fully aware that EU membership relies on a political decision shared by all EU members that want to see a new state join, but it also relies on the candidate state itself and its work to approximate and adapt EU standards and community norms. Ukraine will join the EU. And we will achieve this, in particular, as a result of our state's internal transformation that is completely consistent with the interests of our people. The EU represents economic security and social stability for Ukraine, and Ukraine represents the strengthening of the entire EU community. And it is critical that the Ukrainian parliament continues to support the legislative efforts required for our European integration.

In the coming weeks, important meetings and negotiations will take place in Ukraine, and we are doing everything to ensure that the June summits—the G7 Summit in Canada and the NATO Summit in the Netherlands—are not hollow. Russia only truly understands one language — the language of force. That is precisely the language that must become the working one across all formats of international engagement in the coming months. Ukraine continues to do everything possible to secure the release of our POWs and the return of our fallen warriors. The full lists from Russia for the exchange of over one thousand people, as agreed in Istanbul, have still not been provided. In typical fashion, the Russian side is once again trying to turn even these matters into a dirty political and information game. For our part, we are doing everything we can to keep the exchange track moving forward.

Today, we are at the Johannesburg High Court to defend the interests of the residents of Johannesburg and uphold the rule of law. The City remains committed to ensuring that all developments comply with the necessary approvals and legal processes. While we are confident in the City’s case regarding Marble Towers, we are still open to constructive engagement and an amicable resolution in the best interests of the people of Johannesburg. Our responsibility is clear: to protect public safety, enforce compliance, and build a lawful, well-governed city for all.

Day 35: The current impasse between healthcare workers and both the National and County governments is a distressing situation that demands urgent attention. The crux of the matter lies in the 2017 collective bargaining agreement, which remains unimplemented despite repeated appeals and negotiations. As healthcare professionals, our primary concern is the welfare of our patients. However, the government's reluctance to honor the terms of the CBA undermines our ability to fulfill our duties effectively. It is disheartening to witness the government's disregard for our legitimate demands, which are essential for ensuring fair compensation, adequate working conditions, and ultimately, the provision of quality healthcare services to all Kenyans. Our decision to continue the strike is not taken lightly. It is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to advocating for our rights and the rights of our patients. We cannot, in good conscience, return to work under conditions that compromise our ability to deliver the standard of care that every Kenyan deserves. Until the government demonstrates a genuine willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue and fulfill its obligations under the CBA, we will persist in our strike action. The plight of Kenyans who rely on our services weighs heavily on our minds. We understand the hardships they face as a result of the ongoing strike, and we empathize with their frustration and concern. However, we firmly believe that our actions are necessary to effect positive change within the healthcare system and secure a better future for all. The health and well-being of Kenyans are at stake, and we cannot afford to stand idly by while our profession and our patients suffer. #DoctorsStrikeKe

Commissioner Khumalo: "Prof, you said you are here to give us a warning that there's going to be resistance to implementation of our recommendations. Looking at the PSC's implementation record across the criminal justice system and how low it is, what are reasons? Considering that we are going to study the evidence, write our report and make recommendations, and once the Commission is done we won't be able to enforce the recommendations. So what must we put in our recommendations to make sure that the implementation rate is not as low as what we see with PSC". Prof responded by highlighting the Leadership changes and instability, National Commissioners since way back not finishing their terms, people acting, people making excuses that they are new, they can't act on anything. INSTABILITY! #MadlangaCommission Credit: sabcdigitalnews

The consultations among the United Opposition leaders continue as we work towards a shared purpose of bringing the country together and building leadership capable of addressing the challenges facing Kenyans. We are finding common ground, agreeing on the priorities that matter most to our people and laying the foundation for the work ahead. Unity of purpose takes time, and we are committed to doing the work needed to get there.

I met with the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Mathias Cormann. Ukraine’s membership in the OECD is very important to us. And today, we are taking a step in this direction – the Prime Minister submitted Ukraine’s official updated application for OECD membership. We hope to receive candidate status as early as this autumn. The next stage is a roadmap toward OECD membership. We discussed this during the meeting. We also paid special attention to Ukraine’s progress on the path to European integration and the implementation of reforms necessary for rapid progress toward EU membership. We also spoke about the implementation of the European Union’s financial support package, the strengthening of sanctions against Russia, and engagement with partners. I am grateful to Mathias Cormann and the OECD for their support for our people on our path of reforms and toward peace.

Yesterday, I was at the APC Presidential Campaign Council headquarters to meet with staff, assess the facility and review our operational requirements ahead of the work before us. As we begin the task of securing the re-election of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our assignment is clear: build a strong organisation, put the right systems in place, mobilise our party and supporters across the country, and ensure that every part of the campaign machinery is prepared to deliver. The work has begun, and we are fully committed to the mandate. #renewedhope

Congratulations to Ghana for demonstrating that, with political will and guided implementation, continental integration can move from aspiration to action. The question before us as Members of the Pan-African Parliament Pan-African Parliament is: How do we replicate Ghana's success across the rest of Africa? Trade thrives on trust. That is why we must confront and eliminate xenophobia, ensuring that every African feels at home anywhere on the continent. Only then can we unlock the full potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area and build the united, prosperous Africa we envision.
