A Big problem with many young kickers on kickoffs. A wide angle takes away from linear power and directional control. The tendency coming from the soccer field to kicking a football is to swing across your body. I see too many kickers really wide in their approach and yet they still kick the ball back to the left with the right foot. Notice how NFL kickers when they’re kicking the ball to the right are still not even as wide as some young kids are that are just blindly kicking the ball down the field, and more than likely expecting to pull it to the left. Then when they land on their follow through, they continue to trip over themselves for several steps because their swing is counterproductive to their bodies momentum

Our test for eye dominance is simple, but instructive. Identifying whether a golfer is same-side or cross-dominant can provide insight into their setup preferences in putting. Same-side dominant golfers often prefer the ball slightly farther back in their stance and tend to set up more open. The only way to do this with both force and stability is by hitting against a strong front side — more specifically, our front heel. I’m constantly going back and forth between a stronger grip and a weaker grip. I definitely feel more powerful with a strong grip, yet players like Jack Nicklaus and Bryson DeChambeau have proven that a weaker grip can produce incredible power. What I do love about a weak grip is that it takes the left side of the course out of play. For many golfers, that alone can be a game changer. If you’re struggling to hit fairways, experiment with a weaker grip. You might be surprised by how solid you’ll hit it. Often times it allows golfers to rotate more aggressively through impact without fearing a hook, which can actually increase clubhead speed.

Many internet-gurus would have you believe that all you need to do is flex your wrist, shift and spin and you’ll be amazing. For the majority that’s totally not the case. Swing your own swing and don’t follow fashion. Golf historically has trends (drive your knees-Nicklaus’s, Stack n tilt etc). All have merit but they are not the only way to do it and often don’t work for the majority. Swing your own swing and don’t follow the sheep. 🐑

When we saw Wyndham Clark in 2025, he was sliding excessively towards the target on the downswing with his irons. One of our favorite drills for helping golfers eliminate slide is lead leg only swings. By removing the trail leg, the golfer is forced to stabilize and rotate over their lead side rather than slide past it. Any excess lateral movement is amplified immediately, so the body starts to learn to post up and turn around a firm front side. The payoff is a more stable low point and more consistent contact with the irons.
