Matt Painter on success, and setting and managing expectations. Question by Brendan Quinn “Your expectation is your best season. So this is my 19th season at Purdue, so if we don’t win the Big Ten and we don’t go to the elite eight, it’s a bad year. That’s a... hair harsh, but it’s the way it is. And so you just wanna keep moving that bar… some of the guys that get treated unfairly, I’d love to be them. I’d love to be somebody who wins the national championship and goes to Final Fours and then you go to a Sweet Sixteen and like, ‘what the hell happened?’ You know, I’d love to have that issue, right?” “But that’s what we’re working towards. You know, we’re working towards being able to be a program that can consistently get into the tournament and advance and have those long runs, but also not lose our soul in the process.” From by Boiler Uploadshow more

@AssemblyCall @BFQuinn Well said…as per usual. Painter has been wildly consistent and massively successful…and will be judged largely on what happens during a six game stretch that happens this time of year.

@BFQuinn Sadly, I’m guessing that most coaches would SELL their soul for a Final Four.😔

@BFQuinn As an alum of Purdue it’s very important that @CoachPainter runs a clean program!! I want the players to be better players and people after the experience not just win games at any cost. #BoilerUp

@BFQuinn I had a hard time deciding what to transcribe… ended up writing out almost his entire quote. So glad he’s our coach.

Mike Macdonald explains why not playing in the NFL actually helped him become a better coach, and says it forced him to lead with honesty instead of pretending he had all the answers “Because it’s like, who am I going to kid here? I can’t do what you guys do. And so I think that’s where it starts. And then you’re a young coach, so it’s also an acknowledgement to say, ‘Hey, look, I feel very strongly about some things. There’s a lot of things I also acknowledge I don’t know yet because we haven’t experienced these things, and I don’t have the skins on the wall to say, “Look, I know what’s going on here.”’ “I believe I know what it takes, and I’m going to try to create a compelling vision that we want to create, and a pathway and principles that we can go by to get there. But if we really believe in this culture of growth and 12 is one, well, I’m in this thing and our coaches are in this thing with our players. “There’s coaches in our league and coaches in history that, deservedly so, come in and say, ‘Hey, look, this is how we’re going to do business. Here’s your book. We’re going to go to page July, August, whatever, and this is what we do, this is how we do business, and this is what’s going to win.’ And it’s worked like that. But if I did that, that wouldn’t be authentic. “So my thing is, ‘Hey, look, I’m learning with you guys in this journey.’ It’s more fun that way, and it takes the edge off. We’re going to give it everything we have because we decided we’re going to try to do it this way. If we don’t get the results we wanted, let’s go back and see what we can improve on process-wise to yield better results. “And you just keep doing that. That’s an honest process. But you’ve got to keep it real with them. If we fall short, which we’ve done plenty of times from the coaching staff, or if there are things that aren’t up to the vision and the standard of how we said we were going to be, we’ve got to be the first ones to show that we’re willing to grow from that because that’s what you expect from your players.”

RJ Barrett’s message for Toronto Raptors fans ahead of the 2026-2027 season: “Raptors fans, I know that we’re all excited from what we did last season, and what we can do this year.” “It’s going to be an EVERY DAY GRIND. It’s not going to be easy, but you can expect for us to play our hardest.” “I know we just added Kawhi to the mix, so you can expect some good basketball from us this season.” “But at the end of the day, we’re going to need you guys. We’re going to need your support. Being able to have you guys there cheering and stuff, it REALLY is detrimental to the other team, and it gives us such a boost.” “We need you guys, for sure.” [ via. Nick Saban thinks Matt Campbell can have success at Penn State, but not if the Nittany Lions keep their ‘championship or bust’ mentality: “These places that have, to me, a little bit of unrealistic expectations that we’re going to win the national championship. Only one team wins the national championship, and there’s a lot of competition out there…I mean, there’s all types of factors that go into whether you can finish the season the way you want. So, to make that sort of the goal, which is an outcome, that ‘We got to win the championship or we’re gonna get rid of the coach,’ to me is totally wrong. And they’ll have a hard time doing it if that’s the approach that they take. “Look, Matt Campbell did a great job at Iowa State because he won more there than most. So that tells you what the potential of the place is and what he was able to accomplish. I’m sure he’ll be able to do the same thing at Penn State.” #WeAre #PennState

Bret Weintein asks "what is this all really for?" "If you look at the push towards tokenization of assets, towards central bank digital currencies—that is programmable money that can be turned off if you displease the powers that be. If you look at the creation of these massive data centers, is that really about citizen use of AI? Maybe some of it is, but is it really about creating a storehouse of information that will allow you to be controlled and locked down? That’s certainly the impression I have. We didn’t have a discussion about any of this. This is happening, and then we have to react to it because it’s all on a freight train headed down the line… and we’re always playing defense. So it’s pretty frightening stuff. And at some level, we have a moral right to object. We’re not being given the opportunity to object..."

$ABCL CEO Carl Hansen explains the net negative overall value creation in biotech and how AbCellera plans to beat it: “I really think it can be beat because there’s a lot of mistakes that get made in where you allocate capital.” “If you’re a biotech and you start a company on a drug, and you go public and have a drug, and now the data is looking not that great, you just keep running that drug. … Because if you quit that drug, the company is done.” “So, because you’re so concentrated on one thing, you end up having blinders. It’s like a cult of a molecule. And even a real, practical, capital access problem that makes you continue to move things forward” ______________________________________ “Another problem is that many of the drugs that get started, get started by people who don’t understand the competitive or commercial landscape and have no intent of ever actually manufacturing it. … Because they know someone else is going to buy it. So then their framework is not ‘Am I making a drug that’s going to make a difference for people?’ The framework is ‘Can I make something that I think someone will take off my hands?’ And that happens a lot.” “There are many acquisitions where a big pharma company spends $10B, $20B, and it’s a complete bust. So really no value is generated for patients but someone was able to get a good exit on that because they anticipated what someone would want. And a lot of decision making gets done like that”. _______________________________________ “I’m not saying that we have this all solved. But what we’re trying to do is create a framework where we are able to take many bets so that we don’t fall in love with anything, or we don’t have to fall in love with anything. … And then always hold up very explicitly what we know and what we don’t know along the dimensions that matter. The dimensions that matter are - Will it work? That’s a science. - When it gets where will people care? - Is it differentiated? - Does it solve a big problem? In order to get it there, is there a path with our resources and expertise that would allow us to see it through?” “When you start to hold things up like that, you start to see where the mistakes are, where the uncertainties are, and you can be more rational in deciding ‘We’re going to run it to here because we get to flip the card and if the card goes the wrong way we’re going to kill it because we’ve got something else behind it.’” “I do think that if done right, and if you can pick the right opportunities, the success rate can be well higher than an order of magnitude better. … And there are examples of this… companies I’ve mentioned, you know, Regeneron, their success rate is at least 10x the industry in bringing programs forward and getting them approved. … So it’s… you can do it better that way”

Garrett Temple says the secret to lasting 16 years in the NBA is being low maintenance “I think it goes back to what we talked about earlier. Just understanding your role. I think it’s more difficult for highly touted guys, or guys that are just very talented, that can do a lot of good things and don’t get that opportunity right away. I think they may not be able to be adaptable.” “The talent level is immense. But the ability to be professional, and that’s general, but that means be on time, have a work ethic, be low maintenance. I think that’s the big thing now.” “Being low maintenance, which means not having anybody have to worry about you, or asking for too many things, or you being a prima donna, or things of that nature.” “Just being somebody that’s under the radar. I call it the ‘What do you need, Coach?’ player. When you can be that guy, and then once you get on the court you produce, especially on the defensive end, offensively you can make shots, miss shots, but if you produce defensively and you cause no problems, you only bring positivity to the team, it’s hard for coaches and GMs to get rid of you. It’s very hard.” “Those are all things you can control. It’s simple, but it’s not easy. Because you get in your head. ‘I was this dude, but you go three games without playing. The dude in front of me not even playing well. What are you doing?’” “The ego is so big in professional sports. You have to have one to get to a certain level, but you literally have to be able to turn it on and off.” “And once your mindset is about winning, the team winning, you can focus on doing whatever the team needs you to do to win. That’s the biggest thing that allows people to stay in the league.”

BREAKING 🚨 ‼️ My advice to everybody is to get ready for the WEB3 system. The WEB3 financial system is getting ready to switch. All private central bankers have been notified and put on notice that we have to prepare our people for tokenization processes throughout anything tied to the USD system. So the Federal Reserve and private central bankers are going to be moving over onto the Ripple network — that’s a given. For those of you following Q and the Q program, the Anon series, you have been right on track the entire time, but we know how that’s going to work. For those of you not in it and operating on the public side, I’ll tell you something very clearly right now: if you are not moving into the trust processes and you can’t manage to make that process work for yourself, what I want you to do is at least go get yourself some XRP and hold it there — you can thank me later when everything switches over. If we’re being notified to notify our own clients, that means this is signed, sealed, and delivered. Everything is coming down the pipeline and we’re getting ready to flip the switch. Again, you don’t want to be on the outside looking in, because when they flip that switch, if you’re not in the institutional program, you are not going to be able to access that side of the ledgers. So again, they’re going to make it almost impossible for anybody to access those coins. I’m just giving you a quick hint. If you have not yet moved into the WEB3 system, and you cannot manage the process on your own, I can provide direct guidance. Join my private Telegram channel for step-by-step support 👉 Act now. 🗣️ Mikel Arteta on people forgetting the quality Arsenal already have: “That’s human nature, I think. When you talk to people and ask them, ‘What is on your bucket list?’ people write a lot about the bucket list. “And sometimes we forget the reverse bucket list, which is the things that you already have in your life that are incredible. “But you put so much emphasis on the next thing that nothing seems to be enough. It happens in life, and I think it’s very important to value what you have. “That’s what I said about the squad and how much I love our players. I really value what we have and what we have created together. “And then ambition is great. Let’s always have the ambition to be better, especially to evolve the players and the things that we already have within the club. “But let’s not lose perspective of what we already have, which is amazing, and we are very lucky to have them.”

Elon Musk on Grok: “I think an AI that is sort of SpaceX’s baby will be a very good AI. I think SpaceX is a collection of some of the very best humans on Earth, both in capability and morality and goodness, and I think we want to have an AI that is born of that capability and that morality and that goodness. I think that’s very, very important. So I’d like to encourage people to help out, actually, with the AI hardware on the ground and the AI software and, of course, with the AI satellites. Solar is going to be a very important part of that. The TerraFab will be a very important part of that, but we must also succeed on the software front, and we’re going to be training Grok on the sum total of all SpaceX information. So in a way, it will be trained on you. You will effectively be the parents of the AI. It will inherit your thoughts and ideas and beliefs, and I think that’s a good thing. So, yeah, we’ve got to win here on the AI hardware and the AI software. That maybe is the most important message. I think that is actually the most important message I wanted to convey today is that we must win on AI because the future is overwhelmingly AI and robots. So we won’t ultimately be able to control the AI. It’ll be too smart for that. But just like if you have a child that is a super genius child, you can still instill in that child the values and beliefs that you think are good and right. And so that’s why it’s incredibly important that we succeed with Grok. So, yeah, well, Grok 4.5 you’ve tried probably. We’ve got 4.6 coming out in about a week. And then 4.7 should be really pretty special. So I’d like to encourage everyone at SpaceX to use AI and to make it better.”

Ben McCollum on Iowa's response to the Michigan State loss: “We didn’t overreact to what it was. But we did correct. Because, again, like I told the guys, it’s still not okay to lose. Like I’ve said ad nauseam, this whole thing isn’t going to be easy and it’s going to take time. You just don’t get anointed. You don’t just come in and say, ‘Oh, here, we’re just going to win the Big Ten.' Like, 'Here you go.’ It’s hard, and there’s going to be hard games. There’s going to be things we don’t do well, and there’s going to be things that I don’t do well. But that’s the fun in it, and that’s why we want everybody so involved. We certainly appreciate the crowd today. I thought they were fantastic.”

while talking about pet adoption, chenle said you really have to do it with true sincerity, the person who wants to adopt needs to have that love and responsibility in their heart. he said it’s not like, ‘i want a puppy right now so i’m gonna get one.’ you have to be sure you can take responsibility for them for their whole life, and that you can give them the love they deserve. that’s when it’s truly right to raise one. but if it’s like, ‘i want a puppy! i’ll get one!’ and then you get tired of them later… that’s honestly the worst. so chenle said that when we’re making decisions about a life, we really, really have to be careful… oh chenle :( ♥︎

ROSALÍA speaks for the first time about what happened that forced her to postpone three LUX TOUR shows: “It’s such a long, long journey to see you all here. It’s such a lovely feeling to be able to perform for you. Thank you for being so… Thank you. It’s a very… it’s a very, very… let me speak. Thank you for understanding. And that the loved ones need to come first. And I think that… yeah… we live… But when something unexpected and painful happens to you, it can be hard to keep going. But I truly believe that doing this is worth it. And I truly believe that me coming and sharing this with you, and you sharing it with me… I will do it with all the love that I have. And maybe it will be a little short, but you can take this with you. And hopefully, you will be able to take it with you again. To be honest, I don’t know what would make me happier. And I love you so much.”

Chris Bosh explains how Kobe Bryant taught him that greatness is mostly an unglamorous routine “If you’re trying to go after something, it’s a process and you cannot cheat it. That is one thing you cannot do. You can’t cheat the process, and even then that doesn’t guarantee you anything. You have to have your stuff together because you want to win, that doesn’t guarantee a win. You just have to make sure you’re doing your process.” “I had the chance to have a conversation with Kobe. We were friendly and we tried to have dinner once a year. He always talked about loving the process of what you do. That’s important. You have to love what you do and love putting the work in because some days are going to suck. It’s always going to suck to go in the gym and shoot 10,000 free throws.” “Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, Kobe, this is amazing.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, that’s cool, but think about my day. I get up at 4:30am, take my kids to school, I lift weights, I go to practice, I pick them up from school, then I’ve got to do treatment because I’m 35 years old in the league. Then I’ve got to do treatment, and by the time I finish all that stuff, the day’s over. I don’t do anything else. This is all I do.’” “If you take on that approach to something that you love, if you can stick with it even in those tough days, that’s where you want to be.” “You gotta love the grind, man. That’s the part I always like to think of anytime something gets hard. If I’m pursuing a goal and I want to quit, it’s going to come. It’s going to come. It’s okay.” “How many people would quit right now? That’s the first thing I think about. Then I keep going. I’m like, okay, I’m not going to let this drop me off and keep me away from what I’m doing.”

.Attorney General Todd Blanche to Bloomberg on Election Integrity: “We’re not making this a partisan issue. The people that we have charged with illegally voting—I don’t know whether they voted for Republican or Democrat. The point here is that you can only be a citizen and vote. You cannot be here illegally, and you cannot be an LPR and vote. So, it’s a big focus of what we’re doing, and we’re going to keep on doing it.”

Billy Donovan explains why he’s not sure if the transfer portal is preparing players the right way for adversity in their lives “The one thing that I don’t like about NIL is, I have always felt that you guys, while you’re in college, should be taken care of with the amount of money that gets generated through athletics. So I think we’re all in agreement on that. Probably should have happened a long time ago.” “My issue with NIL is I think you’re teaching kids a really, really bad precedent. That you can go over here and make this amount of money, and then you’re not happy and pick up and go somewhere else.” “When you go to the NBA, you take a job and you sign a contract. You’re under contract. And I just don’t know how much that’s helping guys.” “What happens if one of these guys does get drafted, whether it be in the NFL, the NBA, and they sign a four-year deal and they’re not happy in the situation, not getting ready to play? They can’t leave.” “I think that you’ve got to be able to work your way through some adversity and difficulty sometimes to find out a little bit more about yourself. The way it’s set up, there’s no resiliency of going through anything that’s difficult and tough in life.” “I’m not begrudging anybody for making anything financially. But when you get into the real world and you sign contracts, you’re going to have to be responsible to those to a certain extent.”

#F1 | Lewis Hamilton believes the team is very well equipped to take on the 2026 season: “Just to be in Fiorano, you know, to be at Ferrari, to be here, to know that this is a start of a long journey, but one that I know that it just feels right, I think the team is in the best place it’s been, I think, for the time I’ve been here. And seeing everyone so motivated and driven, I think we’re really on it.” “We’ve got a lot of work to do to really make sure we do all the diligence and we really understand this car and we really have to be quick to react, be very dynamic but I feel like all hands are on deck so I’m sure we can do that.”

Steph Curry says he wouldn’t trade his two titles for the 73-9 season Draymond: “If you could trade the 2017 and ’18 championship to complete the 73-win championship, would you trade those two championships to complete the 73?” Steph: “So let me get the resume right, we’d have two chips and a damn-near-perfect season… I don’t even know how to answer that question. I would say no.” “But I think for the rest of our life I’ll still be able to just laugh at “16” it’s fine, it’s always gonna be that awkward acknowledgement of an amazing regular season and then the finals run. But yeah, I’d say no.” Draymond: “You don’t have your Steph Curry in your life, get your Steph Curry, because if you say yes, this interview was over, my heart was broken.” “To be quite frank with you, I still think we had the best team ever, although we didn’t finish it and win the championship. I still think that was the best team ever, until 2017… I can’t see anyone beating that 2017 team. Not even our first 15-16.” “Hands down, that’s it, best team ever.”
