My Dreamcast game's in-game PC runs DOOM now.

Turns out porting Doom is extremely easy! I took doomgeneric and had to only write two functions: 1. Copy from internal framebuffer to Dreamcast's VRAM (had to make the use of "rgb565" video mode that DOOM can do) 2. Implement keyboard support (pretty easy too!)

Blessed. @ID_AA_Carmack, your work has been a huge inspiration to me in the 19 years I’ve been programming. Reading Masters of Doom, F. Sanglard’s books, DOOM/Quake source code has changed me as a programmer and made me work harder and not being afraid of just doing stuff. 🫡

what level of side quest are you on? 😆

I'm literally living this movie rn...

as designer just barely moving into being able to really program you are an inspiration and I really appreciate you sharing so much with us thank you!

Hear me out...

Not much more to say except Awesome!

That's 128 bit power :0

Amazing!

with win 98 ;) nice

That's awesome I wonder if your dream casts in game PC running Doom can also have an endgame PC running Windows 95 haha. Anyway that is cool!! ✌️👍

YES!!!!

emuvr but its a dreamcast game

cool when's the game comning out

LOL there's probably an optimized Doom DC codebase already floating around if you really want to get in the weeds.

I’m not sure you need to optimize a Doom port if it’s the only thing that gets drawn on the screen. 😂 There’s a cool Doom 64 port project for Dreamcast though.

128 bit powaaa !!!

sorcery

Sure, it runs Doom. But can it run Omarchy?

That's incredible

Let the PlayStation run your PSX games in the game for Dreamcast)))

I was going to make a joke about running Doom in the previous post. Welp.

Dang.

Is that in-game 'pc' running windows via Qemu?

No, it's much simpler. It's Doom ported to Dreamcast, running natively, but it gets rendered to a texture, which then gets rendered to a window of a virtual fake OS. Running Windows/Qemu would be impossible for Dreamcast's CPU on only 16MB RAM. 😂
