Astronaut Neil Armstrong describes what space looks like from the surface of the moon

Armstrong was some type of goddamn superman. He also saved Dave Scott--who never misses a chance to thank Armstrong--when a thruster in Gemini 8 got stuck causing the capsule to spin out-of-control. Against all odds, just before they blacked out, Armstrong managed to regain control. As Scott likes to say, "thank God I was flying with Neil Armstrong that day."

It's mind boggling that we landed on the moon 5 decades ago with supercomputers that had less RAM than today's CCTV cameras and children's tablets. And then never had the "tech" to be able to land there again.

The Lunar Landing Training Vehicle was nicknamed the "Flying Bedstead” for good reason… it looked like a bed frame & flew like one too!

It worked only on the "moon"

What would have happened if this happened at the moon? His parachute would have never deployed and he would still be in outer space. No way this capsule or object ever went near the moon

What happened is Neil Armstrong‘s giant balls shifted a little during the flight that made the whole thing go unstable.

Such a cool vehicle. Been building a drone version of this!

Armstrong's heart rate during the actual Moon landing was 150 bpm. During this ejection? Reportedly stayed calm enough to go back to his office and file paperwork the same afternoon.

And then hand flew the Eagle in the final approach to a safe touchdown on the moon.

It was reflexes like this that earned him first chair on Apollo 11. If you're familiar with the last minute complications they had in landing on the lunar surface the first time, then you already know that they couldn't have made a better choice...

People today don't believe we landed on the moon because they don't know how brave/crazy earlier generations were.

Just another day at the office for Neil Armstrong. Seriously. He went back to his office that same day.

he never ever successfully accomplished a landing in practice on earth. not once. not one single time. his very first time landing the lander was on the lunar surface. (after the event depicted here all future attempts were done with the lander literally hanging/dangling from a gantry crane)

It’s hard to believe people believe we landed in the moon but then I lived through Covid and now I can see people are REALLY gullible.

No one’s questioning the fact we supposedly had some kind of hover craft / personal flying vehicle back in the 60s? Wtf is this technology and why didn’t we expand upon it

Highly Recommend the movie First Man starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong.

Would he have been INJURED in that crash, or EXPOSED for lack of injury???

So, stars are only visible from the Earth, not the mood or space, and the Earth which is 7 times the size of the moon looks "small". And we're training to land on the moon's gravity by training with Earth's gravity. Yeah, makes sense! 🤪

It's a good thing he didn't have to do that on the moon.

At this point, I'm just assuming that was staged as well.

I don't know if it was this occasion but on some high intensity manoeuvre Armstrong's vital body signals were being closely monitored. His heart rate and pulse barely altered. One cool customer was Armstrong.

Artemis II, after 56 years since the moon landing, July 1969, this is extremely dangerous stuff. The four individuals stepping forward as human cargo are prepared to risk their lives for humanity!

Damn, that was an incredibly close call 😱 Neil Armstrong ejecting just seconds before his lunar training vehicle went down is crazy to watch. The reflexes and composure of that man are on another level!

That was May 6, 1968. The LLTV had about 2/3 of a second of ejection seat fuel left when he punched out. Armstrong went back to his desk and did paperwork. Coworkers didn't even know it happened until later that day.

If man successfully landed on moon in 1960s; then why no further attempts made yet? Now NASA is attempting another trip to moon after 60+ years but no landing; only hovering above moon and coming back. This makes me believe that earlier landing was hoax…

Had it in the movie First Man about Neil Armstrong well played by Ryan Gosling. I thought the movie captured what the era was like before the moon landing.
