Ok, , 14.3.8 has some issues. This is the third time FSD keeps going straight on a turn only lane. It’s completely ignoring the road markings in regards to its navigation path, in regards to what is proper behavior in terms of respect to road priority and the other...

@Tesla_AI This has happened to me as well. Very rarely. The best I've been able to figure is that it obeys the when the lane priority directions are clearly posted above, but not always when painted on the ground. I did see it get out of the wrong lane once in an earlier version.

@Tesla_AI All versions had problems merging, I had some weird glitches before, but I never had incidences of it totally ignoring traffic laws before 14.3.8.

@Tesla_AI Curious what mode you had enabled. Do you have the rear camera footage as well? I wonder if the model rewards continuing forward over potentially stopping the flow of traffic behind the vehicle. I’ve experienced similar situations, but overall the merging has been solid for me.

@Tesla_AI I always break my streak, every time I park… I generally try to get it to do the proper thing by telling it in which lane to go. This time it was especially stubborn. This is the 50th time at this intersection and the first time it does this.

@Tesla_AI I think some of what’s driving these issues is the map data errors and the efforts in progress to overcome them. My area is riddled with them and it prohibits autonomy here. A human must be present to ensure proper behavior.

FSD 14.2 STUNS IN WINTER DRIVING! Just got done driving ~100 miles on a snowy interstate and a little suburban driving. A few notes: FSD absolutely, definitively detects snow as a separate substance from rain. As the snow began to fall, there came a point where FSD first detected the snow and immediately slowed. From then on, it drove in a *completely different profile*. Generally, V14.2 kept 40-55mph on a 70mph interstate. When driving in Sloth/Chill and you try to increase the speed profile to Standard/Hurry, the truck displays a red error saying inclement weather is preventing FSD from speeding up. Fantastic! V14.2 takes corners slow as molasses to keep traction. It does NOT shoot gaps and pull out in front of other vehicles. V14.2 waits for BIG gaps to make its merge into traffic. It is properly cautious! One instance of Red Hands occurred when it was merging into a center left turn lane. This center lane was the only lane not plowed, so either 1. it got confused with lane markings or 2. Slid sideways very slightly and got upset. On straightaways on the interstate in areas with little snow coverage, V14.2 would speed up close to the speed limit. While the roads were wet today from road treatment, I was concerned for slick & frozen areas and manually backed off on the speed. While not technically unsafe, I did this out of an abundance of caution. IMO this is a grey area between "driving safely" and "not driving how I do" lol Not much ice today. Just snow and slush. ***Tonight, 6-12 inches of fresh snow is forecasted to fall here. I'll be out at dawn tomorrow to test in worse conditions with less traffic.*** Stay tuned.

After testing FSD v14 head-to-head against other top-tier intelligent driving systems, this Chinese defensive-driving instructor shared his takeaway: “After testing FSD, my conclusion is: this is the best overall experience among all the driver-assist systems I’ve tested. As someone who’s been a defensive-driving instructor for almost 20 years, I can say with full confidence that its anticipation and decision-making in the vast majority of complex road conditions is pretty much in line with my own driving habits — some of it is even identical. Throughout the whole process, my anxiety around needing to take over was extremely low. The occasional interventions and takeovers I did do were mostly because it wasn’t familiar with China’s laws, regulations, signs and markings, or with certain special road conditions. And some were takeovers just for the sake of efficiency. Based on my nearly 20 years of training and evaluating all kinds of professional and non-professional drivers, I can say that in the vast majority of scenarios, FSD’s decision quality and decision stability have already surpassed most experienced human drivers. And one more thing to note: it has no emotions. It never gets tired. It never gets distracted. And an algorithm that hasn’t even been specifically trained on Chinese road conditions yet — relying only on its underlying general-purpose risk perception and avoidance logic — has already managed, in most scenarios, to drive defensively like a veteran driver. This is a genuinely remarkable display of true end-to-end capability. Because true end-to-end learning isn’t about rules. It’s about the physical laws of the real world and the physiological patterns of humans. And this makes me really look forward to seeing how the official version of FSD performs once local training is complete. But I do have some concerns too. I’m also worried: once FSD starts training in China, whether it might pick up some of the bad driving habits of Chinese drivers. This mainly depends on Tesla’s data cleaning and filtering work. We’ll have to wait and see.”

7 drives in with FSD v14.1.1 and here’s my first thoughts: - Everything v14.1 did, it does and more. Exactly the same great performance as expected but better. - ALL my drives were zero intervention around LA tonight. Did really well in parking garages like v14.1. Circled until it finds a spot and backs right in. Did a few loops in/out of the mall garage and it was fantastic. - v14.1.1 has the added benefit of some better lane discipline on highway and lack of brake stutter which some reported. Didn’t see any tonight at all- I didn’t see too much on the previous build, but it was there. - It had a sentient moment where it saw a group of 100+ cyclists taking over a street and without even hesitating it took a different way, even though the navigation wanted it to go straight. Exactly what a human would want to do, it signaled through a tight spot to the turn lane, got in the turn lane and got the heck outta there. It was wild to watch in person and worth a watch on that video. - It is obeying no right turn on red signs, no issue there. Also, insanely smooth merges onto freeway and it enters at the perfect speed. - One thing I’d love to see improved is more assertive lane changes in traffic. It will put the turn signal on and be unsure, which takes a bit, would love to see it be less hesitant. - This build (and v14.1) are AWESOME at merges. Really noticeably improved and drives like a human (and even drives better than most) - v14.1 was great, but v14.1.1 adds the polish it needed to make it smoother around the edges. Really really solid performance tonight. - Really good lane discipline on highway in Hurry mode. It does not camp in the left lane and makes a really good lane choices + selection to get around people. When nobody is around it likes to be in the number 2 lane which is the proper way to do it. - I love how it moves close to the ticket machine in garages, really nice touch and it pulls up to the perfect spot where you can reach and grab the ticket. Will test some drive thrus and other scenarios tomorrow. In this video, you could see it leave the Century City parking garage and drive through Cheviot Hills to the Culver City supercharger where it navigates on top of the parking structure and parks. During this strive in encountered and obeyed 2 no right turn on red signs, speed bumps, dips, a roundabout and the freeway. So impressive to see it make its way there without issue and it’s not even labeled. Really awesome. Excellent work Tesla AI teams getting this o it so quickly, can’t wait to drive it more and see it roll wider hopefully!

First in depth review of FSD v15 on Robotaxi. This video highlights key moments, uncut video in comments. After hearing Ashok Elluswamy mention Robotaxi was running FSD v15, I immediately went on a ride! There are definitely parts of the drive that behave different than the current customer version of FSD. At the very beginning of the drive, the Robotaxi encounters a stationary car which was waiting to supercharge. The wheel is twitching to go around the car. I believe this is to slowly inch to the left to gain more context and visibility to proceed, rather than diving straight in as 14.3.x would have. Ensuring the road is clear prevents the need to reverse in the event of a car coming from the opposite side. Exactly what I would have done. The acceleration and braking behavior of the model are much better than v14. It is MUCH better at predicting the following distance from the car in front. I experienced no brake stabs at all. The turn signal behavior is exactly where I would like it. Not too early, but not too late as to alarm the driver behind of a last minute turn. Unlike 14.3.x, it gets into the lane that it needs to much earlier in order to avoid messing up the flow of traffic later. In the middle of the drive, I noticed we were slowing down in the middle of the road. Not abruptly, but a calm deceleration. Turns out it was waiting for 2 ducks to pass! Great job on that. The ducks didn't get startled because the car saw them earlier on and reacted accordingly. Instantly as the duck gets on the curb, it continues. No hesitation. It also avoids a pothole that Robotaxi and my personal car always used to hit. It drives by people on the sidewalk without jitteriness or sudden movements. v14.3.x sometimes gives too much space between the car and pedestrian causing it to cross in the adjacent lane. At a red light, the lane that the Robotaxi was in had more cars in front of it, so it turned from a speed of 0 to get into the shorter lane. This smart behavior allowed it to make the green light as the cars it passed got stuck when the light turned red. FSD performs U-turns flawlessly without slowing down or extensive checking for clearance. Lane changes don't seem sudden as they do in v14.3.x. The initial turn of the wheel is smooth. The gold path on the Robotaxi's screen smoothly changes lanes, making the car perform a smoother transition. Overall, the whole ride was executed EXACTLY as I would have done it. For this ride, I give it a 10/10. There was no point where I was confused in why Robotaxi made the decision it did. The model is more confident, assertive and humanlike. I did not get to observe yellow light behavior or school zones in this ride, but I am sure the car handles them well. All of the little things this ride exhibited make the car blend in really well in Houston traffic during rush hour. Outstanding job on Robotaxi Self-Driving v15 , Ashok Elluswamy, and Elon Musk 👏 This video highlights the best parts. Complete raw video is in the comments.
