Xynova just launched Flex 2, its second-gen hybrid dexterous hand — and Xiaomi is already on the cap table. 🤖✋ The spec sheet is sharp: 23 DOF, 400g palm, ±0.1mm repeatability, 0.05N force control, 12kg single-hand grasp load, and multimodal sensing for adaptive grasping and slip detection. Xynova is not only building a robotic hand. It is building the manipulation stack around it: micro linear actuators, joint modules, sensing, control, and developer-facing integration. The Xiaomi link is confirmed. Xiaomi Strategic Investment joined Xynova’s angel round and continued adding in the Pre-A round. What is not confirmed: whether Xiaomi’s own robot hand uses Xynova’s technology. That detail still has no public proof. Details on all of this new work ➡️ 1️⃣ Meta Sparsh is the first general-purpose encoder for vision-based tactile sensing that works across many tactile sensors and many tasks. Trained on 460K+ tactile images using self-supervised learning. 2️⃣ Meta Digit 360 is a breakthrough artificial fingertip-based tactile sensor, equipped with 18+ sensing features to deliver detailed touch data with human-level precision and touch-sensing capabilities. 3️⃣ Meta Digit Plexus is a standardized platform for robotic sensor connections and interactions. Feeling what a robot feels is becoming real! 🫰 Fluid Reality just ran its first full end-to-end touch teleoperation system, and the demo shows why high-resolution haptics might be the missing piece in robot control. A 22 mm fingertip display with 32 independently actuated “bubbles” was mapped directly to tactile sensors on a robot hand. 🫧 Three fingers streamed real-time touch data robot → human, giving the operator actual contact feedback instead of waving their hands blind, like most teleop systems today. Scaling vision-language-action (VLA) models to high-DoF dexterous hands has long been a "holy grail" challenge due to the high-dimensional action space and data scarcity. As a wrap up of the year 2025, we are releasing GR-Dexter, a holistic hardware-model-data framework for generalist manipulation on a bimanual dexterous-hand robot. A new approach from the Y-Hand M1 bionic hand may be a significant step forward. Force-sensing fingers! 🧤 Stanford researchers just released UMI-FT, a handheld data collection platform that puts compact six-axis force/torque sensors on each finger, enabling finger-level wrench measurements alongside RGB, depth, and pose data. Many manipulation tasks require careful force modulation: too little force and the task fails, too much and you cause damage. But commercial force/torque sensors are expensive, bulky, and fragile, which has limited large-scale force-aware policy learning. UMI-FT changes the economics. The platform uses an iPhone for RGB vision, ultrawide RGB, depth, and pose via ARKit, with each finger sensorized using a CoinFT sensor to capture per-finger wrench information during manipulation. This multimodal data trains an adaptive compliance policy that predicts position targets, grasp force, and stiffness for execution on standard compliance controllers. The learned policy runs slowest and generates reference targets, while model-based compliance and force controllers provide delicate 6D compliance control and real-time force modulation. They tested on three contact-rich, force-sensitive tasks: whiteboard wiping (locate eraser, grasp, wipe until clean), skewering zucchini (grasp slice firmly, push onto stick until punctured), and lightbulb insertion (grasp bulb, align bayonet pin with socket slit, insert while overcoming spring force, rotate to light up). The results are clear. Policies without compliance struggle to modulate contact force and trigger safety faults from excessive force. This is what open robotics actually looks like! 🔓 I was in Bordeaux, sitting inside Pollen Robotics, and had a chance to play around with their humanoid robot Reachy 2. It’s expressive, modular, and can even bring you coffee, and of course runs Python or Rust. I was talking with Reachy in 3 different languages, tele-operating it and manipulating kitchen stuff, and make it even mimic my gestures. The best part is that there are no locked APIs, or hidden stuff, just an open platform that you can build upon. The connection with Hugging Face makes it super easy to start, as the open source approach allows everyone to contribute, experiment and add their own things. Shanghai MATRIX ROBOTICS has released a video of its new generation general-purpose humanoid robot: MATRIX-3. Much more compact than the first generation, without a protruding "rear end," it features an impressive futuristic design, 27-DOF dexterous hand with tendon-driven joints, 3D soft fabric bionic skin (claimed to have tactile sensing), and incorporates a new neural network that allows for zero-shot learning, enabling it to perform tasks in complex environments. It is planned for use in general scenarios such as manufacturing plants, logistics warehouses, and retail supermarkets. However, this is currently just a video, and its actual performance remains to be seen, especially the rapid, sensitive, and free movements of the hands as shown in the video: this would truly be a huge breakthrough.
