Fran and I had a great visit to Marr/Cook Elementary School in Clermont County this morning to celebrate the school’s exceptional work to help their students see their best and read their best. Marr/Cook Elementary School earned the 2026 Governor's Science of Reading Champions Award for their work in literacy, and they participate in the new OhioSEE program, which is bringing crucial vision services directly to the school. ➡️

“A book is more powerful than a scroll.” When MBK Ambassador Ikenna Okoye (Uniondale, NY) wants to get grounded, it’s not an app or a guided meditation that he opens — it’s a book. Ikenna takes President Obama’s advice that “Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible.” He believes that reading helps us feel grounded, connecting to something bigger and beyond our own experiences. Ikenna is putting that belief into action by advancing MBK Milestone 2: ensuring students read at grade level by third grade. He tracks reading progress across his school district and helps schools celebrate their successes along the way. A book at a time, Ikenna is supporting elementary students as they build strong reading habits, confidence, and focus. “As an MBK Ambassador, I want more students to see reading as an opportunity, not just something to do.”

Every few years a new silly speed-reading hack becomes popular, here's the latest one: It's called Quantum Speed-Reading (QSR). How does it work? The faster you flip through a book, the faster you 'read' it. Using QSR, kids can 'read' 100,000 words in 5 minutes. Yumiko Tobitani, the creator of QSR, presented no scientific evidence for her method. Instead, she says that "when a book is flipped through at high speed the words are transformed into images and come out as pictures," and that flipping through a book helps you pick up "the thought vibrations emanating from it." QSR training centers are popping up across China and Japan and charging students $860 to teach them this new reading method.

Some parents was criticizing this teacher in Texas for throwing his students a pizza party. He gives all of his students a slice of pizza and a drink for free. However if they want more, he charges them $2 a slice and $1 a drink. At the end of the day, everyone in his class was able to enjoy a free piece of pizza and a drink. He bought extra to sell to make his money back and that’s where some parents had an issue. Do you feel he was trying to scam his students or was he just doing the best he can because many teachers don’t make allot?

"The Bachelor of Arts program in content creation prepares you to become an influencer and strategic storyteller who thrives in the rapidly evolving creator economy," ASU's website says. Here's what got me — At no point in my son's kindergarten career, or career in school period, do I find it appropriate for me to authorize you the permission, record my son's voice, him saying various different sentences, different words, to track his vocal progress, save it into a file, and then compare it later down the road to his progress through his career in school. I was the only parent that did not authorize this permission. Why do you want to record my child's voice and save it on a file? You can track progress through different things” There is a similar program called Amira Learning, which is an AI-powered oral reading fluency tool. The AI analyzes oral reading fluency like accuracy, rate, expression, errors and pronunciation Recordings are allegedly stored so the teachers can track progress So that exists, but that’s not what’s really be described by this patent.
